The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Those aren't the kind of people he helps. Quill, the Shadowkind on the Andres Isle? One thing in common: no resources. That's what the Knighthood does.

Good. Then I made the right choice. [Not everything is what it seems, and while she's here, she can't always accept things until she sees them once the shades are drawn.] It's a lovely pitch on paper, but I needed to be sure of it.

[which is a pretty hilarious thing to say AFTER someone has just been squired in. She's Kyomi. She has her reasons.]

I had the same thought. [ She turns to Kyomi more seriously now. ] Kyomi, right?

Yup. And you must be Skye. [She offers a hand.] You might have read my books and my articles, but you wouldn't admit it if you did, because they are, bless, trash. But it pays. Certainly more than I thought activism did... But here I am, eatin' my words.

You're that Kyomi Kato?! [ She gets super excited then (pop culture 26). ] Holy crap! I mean. [ She pats a hand to her chest, calming her fangirl. ] I'm not, like, a super-fan or anything, but I've totally read all your books. [ A beat, then, defensively, ] Legally. [ She straightens her shoulders and turns back to the dress racks. Speaking of activist salaries, she has none. ]

[Kyomi almost blushes. Almost. She waves her off with a laugh, trying to be modest, because wow. she wasn't expecting this.] Ah, bollocks. They're nothing but bodice rippers and sexy detectives. If you were a superfan, I'd be worried.

[she isn't even going to comment on the legally thing. because she's nice.] My ma says I'm flighty and can't pick a career to save my own life. I'm hopin' this one sticks, but it sounds like there's plenty of wiggle room.

Archive of Our Own was down. [ Said with some disgruntlement that indicates she's slightly defensive of her enjoyment of Kyomi's ebooks. She grabs another dress and lets the soft fabric brush across her fingers, sighing as it does. ] Yeah, sounds like the whole squiring period is just a thirty-day free trial. Or ... more than thirty days, depending on your mentor.

Hate when that happens. [she's a fandom girl, too. she can admit it.] Met yours already, then, have you?

Kali. [ Skye nods. ] She brought me in. What about you?

[she quirks an eyebrow.] I'm a kitsune.

That's kind of a paradox, though, isn't it? I mean, if you are a fox, then we've all been misled about normal fox size.

Oh my God! So you're from the Shadow World, right? I mean, did you come from the Veil, or did your family? How many kitsune are there on this side?

Not a whole lot that I've met. [the fur makes it hard for her to blush like a person would, but her ears do a little flick like d'aaaw. she's not used to people not thinking she's a weirdo fur person.] My mum came through the Veil when she was pregnant with me and died not long after I was born. I was raised by humans.

Is that why you use magic to look like one?

[ She seems curious, not judgy. ]

[she snaps her fingers and her form shifts back to human.] Aye. That and hair is enough of a hassle when you're not covered head to toe in it.
