The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

Seeing as I never made it to LA, I'm thinking ... no. [ despite having seen veilnesia firsthand, she still refuses to consider the possibility that she might be a victim. HER MEMORY IS PERFECT THANK YOU. ] I mean, trust me, that was the next stop on the trail to Cordelia in Hollywood, but then this whole Veil thing or whatever happened, and well. Here we are.

[He doesn't bother trying to hide it this time, not now that they're talking about things openly enough-- he looks disappointed, crushed, even, but he'd been told this could happen. He knew it was a possibility-- he just hadn't considered it happening with someone so close.]

So you never came to Los Angeles at all. Never started your gig as Angel's Girl Friday?

[He's blabbing stuff all over the place, but that's always kind of been his M.O.]

Well then. Can't expect you to remember something that never happened. [BUT IT CUTS.] Regardless, it's-- it's real good to see you, sweetheart.

I mean I was planning on going to LA to go launch my whole Hollywood career but-- [ she starts to look a bit visibly uncomfortable under his gaze - it's clear that he's very affected by this, and she's not sure how she's supposed to react. but there's at least something in there she can react to, so she'll just jump on it, the moment it starts to sink in, cutting off her previous ramble. ] Wait. Angel? Vampire Angel?

[The only Angel he knows, anyway, although time and circumstance have made things grow distant between them. That had been Lorne's choice, one he would stick to given the opportunity-- not that he had much choice, here. No tall, dark and brooding Champion to be found.

He misses him, but that doesn't mean he's changed his mind.]

Right, because that whole psycho murderer spree... [ she waves a hand, screwing up in her face in sarcastic incredulity ] water under the bridge, I bet.

My help. [ she repeats the word uncertainly, but it's impossible to deny the curiosity in her eyes, and the strange surge of pride at the comment. ] What kind of help?

[There's too much for him to sum up now, especially with all she doesn't know, but he smiles all the same, affectionate as it is bittersweet.]

And he picked me to be his Dr. Phil? [ she sounds skeptical, but that's because ... she is. maybe she feels like she has a lot of great advice to give and plenty of heart, but it's not often anyone else praises her for those things. ] Or was this a Slayer thing?

More like destiny threw the two of you together.

[Lorne's never had a problem using heavy words, and he's always been of the opinion that each and every member of the team was exactly where they ought to be when they were working together-- until a certain point.]

Well, you're gonna have to. Apparently this whole Veil deal is a one-way trip. Whatever he's up to now, the great Cordelia Chase is stuck here.

[He's known about the Veil being one-way for awhile now, unfortunately-- though sometimes, he's not sure he's all that disappointed. There are people and places that he misses, but there's a lot to be said for a fresh start.

He hadn't questioned it in ages, quite frankly, until he saw her.]

Maybe we should start over. I know you, but you don't know me-- which is a real shame. We've had some good times. I wouldn't mind looking to recreate them, if you've got any openings for new friends, princess?

[ to be totally honest? friends haven't been that easy to come by since she got here. not real ones, at least, although there are times where she wonders how much she's ever had any of those. she doubts the scoobies miss her, and her usual queen c routine hasn't drawn the sort of crowd of doting admirers that it always did back in high school.

so while her first choice would never be a guy with horns, she also doesn't really feel like she's in a position to argue that much, especially with the level of sincerity she's reading off him. still, she tries to play it offhandedly, because hell if she's gonna let anyone else know what a struggle it's been. ] I suppose I could pencil something in.

[It's an interesting exercise in-- well, he's not sure, exactly, but in something, seeing her the way she must have been before all the growing up the visions and working alongside Angel had required she do. Still, he thinks sees the Cordelia he knows in her, too, peeking out from somewhere beneath the casual air she's trying to maintain.

She's gotta be in there somewhere.]

It is a little-- palatial.

[Which only makes sense, but is still vaguely overwhelming.]

Thankfully, I'm not put off by opulence.
