The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

The knights wind up in a lot of tight spots. They could use that smile of yours.

You know, I'm more than just a pretty face. [Her compliments and teasing do have a way of making him lighten up at least.]

[ But as she spins out, she cants her head to acknowledge. ]

At the very least, you're a passable dancer.

[He pulls her back towards him, lifting her easily (str 23) and spinning in a slow circle before he sets her back down.]

How's that for passable?

[ Surprised, she tenses, her hands immediately reaching for his shoulders to brace herself. But she loosens up a moment later, that combative reaction quieted as she realizes what he's doing. An airy laugh escapes her throat, and she leans in while he sets her down, enjoying the levity. ]

Didn't take you for a show-off.

I'm not usually. But sometimes it seems worth it. [He grins down at her, going back to their mediocre sway of a dance.]

Glad I earned myself a showing. [ She tilts her head, thoughtful and wry and flirtatious all at once. ]

Just don't expect it all the time. [He adds with a little laugh] I'd hate to disappoint.

No offense, but if this is your opener, you're setting yourself up for failure.

I'm not exactly used to things like this, so I'm not that surprised. My first week, I probably walked into half a dozen rooms on accident that definitely weren't mine.

[She knows, Clark. She gave you the damn map on your phone.]

I remember. [ She nods. ] Which you've stopped, I hope.

Haven't had a single incident in about a week. [Which we'll say is roughly since they talked idk]

I don't know if I can thank you enough for helping me out.

Don't worry about it, seriously. We could all use a little help once in a while. I mean, isn't that the idea? [ She waves around them, gesturing to the knighthood as a whole. Someone who's got your back. ]

Yeah, I guess so. I think I'm still getting used to the idea. [Trust no bitch... except for the ones he has trusted since he was a wee babe- that's basically Clark's life.]

Well, personally, I love it. [ She glances around, grinning broadly. ] All these people, ready to swing in and help when the usual methods aren't enough—it's exactly what should be happening more often. Most places in the world, the people with exceptional abilities are scooped up to help enforce the status quo. Not fight against it.

You sound like you're speaking from experience.

Before I came here, I was working with a group dedicated to rooting out the dirty secrets governments and corporations like to keep. Exactly those kind of secrets: human rights violations. Believe me. We saw plenty.

So you worked to help these people with abilities. Does that mean that you..? [Have some?]

Me? No. [ Which she sounds pretty okay with. Her skills lie elsewhere. ] I mean, it wasn't, like, ... It was sort of an indirect helping. I didn't know a lot of — [ She balks, backtracking reluctantly over herself before she finally just flatly admits, ] Kali's actually the first one I've, like, met. In person.

[He recalls his conversation with Kali at the mention of her and gives a small smile.]

She's an interesting first experience with that sort of thing, I'm guessing. [Not that he has experience with people with powers... Nope. Not at all.] I have a feeling this place will give you plenty of people like that to meet.

No kidding. The Knights seem like they're magnets for the totally unbelievable.

It's definitely different seeing everyone being so open about it. Kansas was exactly the most welcoming place for people that were different.

You saw a lot of shadow-hate there? [ She shakes her head. ] Sorry. It sucks, even if you're not one of them. It's like this gross reminder that mindsets like that, with all the supremacy that goes with, are still out there, that they didn't die in the 1940s like they should have.

Yeah, it's- this place is different than anything I've ever been around. It's too bad the rest of the world can't quite catch up.
