The ballroom of the hotel is a study in elegance, which isn't surprising considering who the bride is, but perhaps more surprising are the personal touches and sheer sentimentality of the room. Circular tables are scattered on the edge of the dance floor, covered with ivory tablecloths, and while there isn't a seating chart, everyone invited can find a place card with their name scrawled on it so they can claim their spot at a table. Along with the simple centerpieces and floral arrangements, each table holds a different photo of Lila and Sylar, often times selfies, and a location that has some sentimental meaning. London, Nando's, New York, Chicago, Tahiti, Andres, etc. (The tiny table for two by the dessert table is labeled Oregon.)

Once they're presented to the guests, Lila and Sylar have their first dance, to get it out of the way and so no one can ruin it. After a dinner of steak, crab stuffed sole, creamed potatoes, and late summer vegetables, the DJ starts playing dance music and probably won't stop all night if we're being honest. Castle party music this is not. There is a brief pause to cut the cake and so Lila can inhale about twelve petit fours by herself, but it's party, party, party all night long. And, oh yeah, it's an open bar.

I didn't go to my prom, so I guess it'll be an experience for both of us.

Prom night! [ she has to pick up her dress to step over something grimy on the street, as if emphasizing how overdressed they are. ]

[ambitionist]

It's kinda weird that you're not doing this with your, uh, prom date, though ...

[bittersweeter]

You can say husband, Alex, it's not going to burn your throat. [ why is she friends with so many people who are like allergic to relationships??? WHY DON'T PEOPLE WANT THIS WTF. ] You were literally there when it happened.

I know! I was just dragging out your metaphor.

[bittersweeter]

I would have hated him in high school. [ which is funny because she was seventeen when they met... ] Although I hated pretty much everyone in high school. Not even hate, I just didn't... care. But you would have been my best friend and I would have invited you to prom so you could snake all the girls at my prep school. Except Daneca.

[ambitionist]

[he raises his eyebrows like idk would you have tho.] I dunno about that. All I cared about was hockey, then my dad died my junior year and I was the kid with a dead parent.

Everyone thought I was the secret teen assassin for my dad because I disappeared for three years. And, you know, because of my dad.

[ambitionist]

I think that's a little bit cooler than people being tired of you because you're dealing with life-long, ongoing trauma.

[bittersweeter]

[ she doesn't want to turn it into a contest or really bring up all the reasons she hated high school (chiefly greg), so she just shrugs. ] Probably.

[ambitionist]

[it's also not really a road of conversation he wants to go down, so he just ... veers away.] High school was the worst. I only kept going because I liked playing hockey too much to quit.

And 'cause you need a diploma to be an astronaut. [ she thinks that might be a little bit accurate. ]

[snort] I was already over the possibility of that happening.

[bittersweeter]

Shh, precious nerd, I believe what I want to believe. [ idk they're probably down the street by now so into the completely average and boring restaurant they go. ]

[ambitionist]

I'm not that smart! One of my teachers fuckin' laughed about the astronaut shit. [wheee. so overdressed. so classy.]

[bittersweeter]

Well, your teachers were shit. [ she flutters up to the counter like we'd like to order to go because she's not that much of a ho to leave for a sit down dinner. ]

[ambitionist]

Well, it was public school in Brooklyn, so ... [anyway. ordering food. getting kung pao chicken like always bc he's a picky lil bitch.]

[bittersweeter]

[ she orders her usual of too much food for any one human being, and then orders some for sylar! fucking piglets. ] Boarding school wasn't much better.

[ambitionist]

[with thoughtful reminiscence while waiting for their food] I wasn't a bad student. Well, until I started cutting class all the time. But I was mostly Bs and Cs.

I was only there for one marking period but I'm pretty sure my dad won't be hanging that report card on the fridge anytime soon.

[ dimly she realizes this is the second time her father has lost his daughter for three years, except this time she's not coming back. ]

Well, y'know, we're Knights now, so ... fuck all that other shit.
