briefing ♔ a lion still has claws | and mine are long and sharp

WHO || Wynn, Buffy, Des, Myri, Astrid, Elena, Spike, Vi, Archer, Felicity, Rose, Steve, Kat, Gar, Dumage [Closed]
WHAT || Wedding Crashers Mission Briefing
WHERE || Knights HQ, the briefing room
WHEN || Vague February date, shortly before 5pm [forward dated]
HOW || Actionspam. Single thread, don't worry about maintaining tagging order.
The Knights might have known better than to expect their unseating of Dimitris Sarandis from his position as dictator would go without reprisal. The sudden attack staged by Sarandis killed several Knights and leveled part of their home, shaking their confidence, but not their resolve. It's hardly surprising, then, that the moment a lead has arisen as to Dimitris' whereabouts, the Knights are prepared to spring into action.
That lead has come in a surprising form - as Sir Dumage Moulet returns with the news that her sister, Amanda, is engaged to wed Sarandis, and that she's willing to do whatever it takes to prevent that from occurring, even at the risk of potentially compromising the cover she has established with the villains.

So ... how are we going to do this? A simple snatch and grab or are we going to try and lure him out?

[ not bothering to wait to hear if anyone is happy or unhappy (or ?????) about that, he moves on to address felicity's question. ] We have received intelligence that Sarandis will be wed tomorrow, in a private ceremony, whose location we have secured on account of the bride - Amanda Moulet - being a blood relative of our own Sir Moulet, who has returned to deliver this information to us. [ whatever wynn thinks about dumage's 'defection' post-andres doesn't show for a moment on his face, which remains grave, his focus clearly on the mission at hand. dumage, for her part, shifts slightly in her seat, taking another long drag off her cigarette. ] Sarandis' guest list will no doubt be small, and Sir Moulet has learned that there will be not so much as a rehearsal of the wedding beforehand. Our best chance to confront him is at the ceremony itself. As she has been unable to secure a list of the guests, we must assume that there will be civilians in attendance. As such, a degree of subterfuge will be required to keep this from erupting into a fight that could catch innocents in the crossfire. I have prepared a plan to this end, however, as we do not know which of Sarandis' powerful allies will be present, I will be leaving it in the hands of Sir Gar to decide if more direct confrontation is necessary.
Your primary goal is to make certain that Sarandis does not escape.
If the only way to do this is through an application of lethal force, then I will accept that over losing our opportunity. But make no mistake [ here, his eyes narrow slightly, as he gets his dad voice on ] - should Sir Gar report back to me that anyone here chose to take his life prematurely when there was some means to deliver him alive, I will trust her judgement implicitly, and you can consider that your resignation of the title of Knight of my order.
Are we understood?

[ maybe he'll go down after an arrow to the knee though and that's nothing close to lethal. lucia chirrups in vi's arms, unperturbed by the serious topic at hand. ]
Are Felicity, Astrid, Elena, and Steve the infiltration force? Since he doesn't know their faces. [ no one recognizes elena's face unless she wants them to, but vi isn't so sure what details sarandis knows about their organization anymore. ] Theoretically.

It seems like the best play. I was about to ask if you got to have a plus one.
[that's directed to Dumage.]
We can get in, case the location and figure out where the best place would be to grab him.

[Not that it probably won't go to shit at some point as these things seem to do, but at least they won't have a million other ideas floating through their heads on top of what they're actually supposed to do.]

That morning, a small team of you will need to obtain an ambulance from the local hospital. There are enough of you to be stationed at any exits to the building, to ensure that Sarandis cannot escape should anything go wrong, but ideally, the ceremony will be interrupted, and we will divert any cellular signals to reach your team in the ambulance. Sir Madchen, with her medical expertise, will be playing the role of lead paramedic - she should be able to convincingly assess Sarandis' 'condition' on the scene. With the other unrecognizable agents, he will be taken into the vehicle, and you will bring him directly to a private airfield, whose location I will provide you with.

SHE GETS
TO BE
A DOCTOR.
(and also her plan was the plan. she can't help but feel pleased about that. wynn feels her.)]
Sounds good to me.

Why wouldn't he just, call in a Cleric? Or, have somebody teleport him to a hospital?
no subject
[ she thinks. maybe. probably. ]
no subject
[or so goes his logic. anyway.] So beyond that, the rest of us are just keeping eyes on the exits? Making sure he doesn't bounce or we bounce anyone he might have prowling out there?
[he's not happy about that. for no reason other than.... guarding exits at the Grammy's was a bad time, but he's not gonna argue about it. it's a solid plan.]

Also on a Mind Master related note - how will the infiltration team avoid getting their minds read and getting outted that way?
no subject
[ he looks to felicity ] There's no way to entirely prevent this woman from reading your minds, beyond not giving her a reason to try. That would be the other reason for this particular plan - it allows the interruption to look circumstantial, lets them believe that they are calling assistance that was unplanned, and leaves no reason for her to suspect your motivations. Mind reading requires an active effort, even for the most skilled psions. If this takes place during the ceremony, there will be a number of people present to serve as natural distractions as well, even if she is in attendance.
[ and to myri: ] As for preventing a magical escape, if the Mind Master attempts to leave on her own, I advise you to allow her to do so. We are not making an attempt to capture or attempt to hold that woman, not with what we've learned about her abilities. Des is right, however - it would be ill-advised for anyone to teleport a man suffering a heart attack, and as such, I doubt she will attempt to take him anywhere.
Should she, however, that will be your duty, Myrilandel - as a cleric, you have the ability to block such travel. Prepare yourself for that eventuality.

I assume you'll be heading in as a guest before any of this occurs? [Then her gaze moves to Wynn.] I can pose as her date, if you'd like? Once inside, it would be easy enough for me to either stay with her, or even move around the location on my own to gather more information before we spring the trap.

Also, do we have a, uh... contingency plan for when the entire wedding party is actually like dragons or werewolves, or some shit? Or they're all robots, and he floods the place with like.... deadly neuro-toxin?
Sorry - call me pessimistic - but this will be like the third or fourth time we've gone in thinking we've got this guy by the balls, and it never goes our way...

[he shrugs.] Same thing we do every mission, Pinky.

Sounds good to me.

But harder, she thinks, will be letting the Mind Master walk away, particularly when Buffy believes that she's the bigger threat. No matter how terrifying her abilities, to just walk away from that is at odds with everything in her.
Being stuck on security sucks, in other words. But she grinds her jaw and swallows her pride and simply nods. ]
Understood.

I know that ain't gonna go down so well with anyone else, so if you kindly disregard that, I won't hold it against you. Much. Let it be known that I did try to keep you from dying a horrible death, though.
But if we're lucky, that's not a problem we have to worry about. [he leans back against his chair again.] I really don't wanna fight her right now.
