[  Jaina Solo has been searching for more information about the Jedi Order and the Force for years now, certain that she and her family can't be the only ones who fell through from a galaxy far, far away.  It would seem that her search has finally paid off:  a Jedi Master may have been recently seen in Malaysia, taking a boat to the island of Luzon, where she was discovered dead on the slopes of a volcano.

With the fallen Jedi's lightsaber in hand, Jaina has asked her friends and family to help her investigate, and try to recover the lost item that the Jedi was carrying on her person - one that was not left with the body.    They've decided to head to the port first, to see what rumors may be left in her wake.  The beautiful Malaysia port of Kudat looks out over inviting blue waters, a number of ships lined up here of all shapes and sizes.  ]

[Poe.... really knows better than to go off on his own, but there is something nagging at his gut that there is information in town that they will miss if they didn't follow up on this thread. And he wasn't alone, really. BB-8 was his sidekick and had a few tricks inside that little ball.

So they are just going to stroll along, trying to blend in which, let's face it, is hard because what guy in the Philippines walks around with a robot? are they filming a sci-fi movie in town?!]

[ yeahhhh the droid draws a lot of stares, and bb-8 would find himself surrounded by tiny adorable children who come up and start gawking at it and chattering eagerly in the local language. one of them has a stick and gingerly tries to poke it as the others look on eagerly or ask poe questions he can't understand. ]

[BB-8 chitters at the children, somewhere between excited and annoyed. At least they weren't ewoks. he's heard horror stories about those creatures from... well, someone. His databanks were still fried like his master's main brain CPU. But these little creatures were just being curious and obviously not intelligent enough to know how to speak droid.

Poe laughed and crouched down to look at the children.]

Come on, Buddy, it's not that bad. Hey, kids... I don't know what you're saying. Any of you speak Basic? English?

[and to show he was friendly, he reached into his pockets and pulled out the few sucking candies he had. Little peppermints that were at the front desk he kept taking handfuls on his way in and out]

[ these children were apparently never taught anything about not taking candy from strangers because they find that almost more exciting than the robot. almost.

the tallest little boy, maybe nine years old, speaks up, lowering his stick. ]

English, yes. [ he points at the robot ] Did you make it?

No, he was a gift. His name is BeeBee-Ate. Say hello, buddy.

[BB-8 looked at Poe, and then chittered for the children. None of them matched the facial scan he was doing and he let Poe know that, making the man laugh]

No, I think these guys are a little too young to be the man we're looking for.

[ the boy looks up at him, curious ] Who are you looking for?

I'm looking for a man with a boat. Here, want to see something cool? Hey, Buddy, show them the picture.

[BB-8 pulled up the holograph of the photo from Rey's phone, the blue image hovering in front of him]

I heard he came here with some guy in a weird mask.

[ all the kids suddenly look more excited, which initially might seem to be because of the hologram, but-- ] Oh yeah! The man in the mask! We saw them!

[newgenwraith]

You did? Great! Think you could tell me where he is now?

[behindcloseddoors]

[ they nod ] Yeah, come with us! [ and start heading excitedly up the street ]

[newgenwraith]

[Poe went to stand up, letting the kids get a little bit ahead of him before looking down at the droid]

Once we find the place this guy is at, I want you to go find Rey and bring her here, got it?

[BB-8 gave a warning set of beeps]

Of course I know what I'm doing. But if it gets ugly, we're going to need the others. Just do it, okay?

[BB-8 beeps affirmatively, and they are off following the kids]

[ they lead him out of the more populated area, towards the strange steps of the mountain highlands, pointing down into a valley with a few scattered buildings here and there. it's quite a walk from the city, but the children don't seem concerned. ]

[looking down in the valley, and then at his droid, he knew BB-8 would be better off not coming down these steps if he was going to be dependant on coming back up them again.]

You stay here, BeeBee-Ate and just keep track of us. If I'm not back in two hours, go find Rey.

[ the kids aren't inclined to go any further, however.

"We're not going in there. There have been strange lights at night..." ]

[newgenwraith]

Hey, no. That's cool. I'm not afraid of strange lights.

[he gave the kids an easygoing smile, but not all convincing that he wasn't nervous about what they meant. He nodded to the droid, and it gave a low whine, but turned and started to roll back to the city]

Thanks, kids. I can go on from here.

[ they nod and head back with the robot, excitedly running around it, and leaving poe to the valley alone. ]

[Poe watched them go, and then pulled out his phone. He flipped on the camera and took an video of the valley as he spoke]

The kids of the town said they saw the man in the photo and his masked friend come down here. I sent BeeBee-Ate back to the group to bring you here. I'm going to head down and see what I can find.

[he turned the video off and stuck his phone in his jacket pocket. He made his way down the stairs, sticking to the side that had a bit of shadow and out of most of the main sight lines (tactics 17). He also checked to make sure his blaster was in easy reach, just in case he needed to draw it.]

[ the place has a desolate air to it, and as he approaches, he'd think for a moment that perhaps all of it was abandoned.

but then he gets close to one of the slanted roof shacks, and it feels as if all the air is sucked out of his lungs for a second. there's a sense of wrongness thick in the air, and he'd realize that he hears a strange thrumming sound that's more than his heart rushing in his ears. ]

[yeah. that is so not a good feeling, and he's going to move silently (22) towards the shack and look for a window to see if he can get a look in to find the source of the noise.]

[ the window is smudged with dirt, to the point that it's very difficult to make out anything. he does, however, see a strange red glowing light on a table in the center of the shack, and seems to make out the dark outline of a hooded figure with his back to poe, hunched over it. it's impossible to make out more, however. ]

[He should have just walked away but instead he stayed (wis 5) and watched silently for a moment, and then grabbed his camera and took a picture - no flash - and then slowly started to back away (move silently 19) to head to the edge of the area in hopes that he wouldn't be caught until the rest got there.]

[ and poe feels what seems distinctly like an invisible hand closing around his throat, tightening and lifting him right off his feet, suspending him in the air as his windpipe remains sealed off---------
