There isn't much warning at all that this briefing is about to occur. In fact, they're told to come 'immediately' rather than given a time. Instead of being directed to come to the Round Table, however, they are instructed to meet at the downtown London Headquarters. For those who haven't yet been there, the main lobby area boasts an impressive silver dragon statue, about seven feet tall, immediately to the right of the entrance. The room is done in comforting wood and mahogany tones, and there's an array of tables and chairs across the room to the right, as well as a small piano. Statues of King Arthur and Lancelot flank the hallway that continues straight beyond the lobby, and there's a staircase leading up, with wooden dragon-shaped banisters, immediately beyond the bathroom door to the right.

On the left are two doors, and one of them leads into a room which also has a small reception window open, where they are received Between the doors hangs an ornate blue and silver tapestry with even more dragon imagery. It is an exercise in subtlety all around.

The woman working reception directs them each to head up the steps to the third floor, head to the end of the hall and take a right to the holo-room.

Yeah, that's right. They have a holo-room.

[ kali has a handful of pixie sticks in her hand and zooms into the room like a tiny blonde rocket. that may explain her excitement level as she cheerfully takes a seat. she may have broken about 12 traffic laws driving here... sorry??? ]

[And this right here is the face of a Welsh Woman who has just been forced to deal with London traffic. Rather harried and potentially about to have a case of post traumatic Road Rage but... Yeah I guess the unusual location and the lack of warning is concerning enough to keep that rant at bay (WS 27).]

I tell you, there's a reason I avoid coming here whenever possible. [What? That's at bay okay.

She'll just, slide into a seat with a huff of air that blows her fringe from her eyes and offer Kali a tight smile.]

Why? It's so much fun! I cut off three lanes of traffic to get to the off ramp, one right after another. [ and she still doesn't have her license. someone really ought to fix that. ]

[That does earn a small grin at least. She doesn't want to experience but it's fun to imagine Londoners getting a taste of their own medicine.]

[oh hey, it's Rocket and Groot, who definitely maybe got an uber driver to pick them up off the side of the road when it became clear that cars are not as raccoon and tree friendly on Earth. Racist.

anyway, Rocket's on Groot's shoulder, because that's where he lives, and they enter like the old married couple they are.]

I was not bein' cheap. Look all I'm sayin' is that couldn't've been the biggest car they had. I'm not tippin' for half-assing.

[Groot is just giving him the most judgemental look a tree can give a small woodland android creature before he just...shrugs and lets it go. Just like that.]

[Whatever Gwen was going to say to Kali gets lost as Edain, Rocket and Groot enter. Her head cocking to one side as she blinks at their appearance.]

Why do I feel like there's a punchline coming... [A man in armor, a raccoon and a tree walk into a holo-room.]

Hi Rocket, hi Rocket's tree friend. I'm Kali. You should have told me you were coming, I would have driven you. Carpools are good for the environment.

[ maybe not for your blood pressure if kali's driving though. ]

I'm glad you all made it quickly. We're being dispatched to deal with an issue that the local authorities have been ... ill-equipped for.

This morning, a troll knocked over one of the financial institutions downtown, apparently on his own. He escaped with not only a great deal of cash, but also a bar of gold, and various rings and watches he demanded from customers. While he left behind no casualties, every police officer who has attempted to apprehend him since has gone down hard - some fatally. He's armed with an assault rifle, and about an hour ago, boarded an uptown bus. Things got out of hand quickly, and after the chase that followed, the bus has wound up blocking three lanes of traffic, and is currently surrounded by officers. He currently has a busload of hostages, which includes men, women, and children, and has threatened to eat some of them if police don't clear out soon and give him leave to go free with his spoils.

[gwenbloodycooper]

[The amusement is quickly erased from her features. Gwen leaning forward, her hands clasped together.]

Is there an open line of communication between the hostage taker and the authorities or is he just, shouting his demands from the bus?

[wynn]

The latter, it seems. He's... quite vociferous.

[beatupgrass]

[Rocket looks like Christmas came early.] Oh man, Groot. D'you remember when we were that wild? Geez, those were the days before... [oh right. he's

not that guy anymore... he clears his throat.] Y'know, before we became good guys. Also we never ate any kids. That's just tacky.

[awkward] ....We're allowed to use lethal force, right? Not on or around the hostages, obviously. I ain't that much of a dick. Just the troll dude.

[wynn]

If it is unavoidable. As always, our first priority is to protecting the innocent. But if he can be reasoned with and another life saved, all the better.

[gwenbloodycooper]

To that end. Is there any footage of the robbery itself that we can take a look at? Might be easier to try and negotiate if we have some idea of the type of person we're dealing with. What it is they really want.

[Aka she wants to break out some Profiling shit. Yup.]

Probably just money. It's why I would rob a bank. [ she's so sage and knowledgeable, this one. ]

She ain't wrong.

The video unfortunately doesn't have any sound, however-- [ he waves a hand over the holo table and it projects the black and white video of the troll, who is wearing an oversized trenchcoat that is basically busted at the seams, and a hat mashed on his head, throwing the coat open and firing bullets into the ceiling as patrons fall to the ground, hands over their heads, screaming in fear. he stomps around, making menacing demands and collecting jewelry in a bag, while ordering the manager to empty the vault. ]

Well that's just a waste of ammunition.

Trolls aren't exactly known for their cleverness.

Or their style, apparently. Eeesh. [Rocket leans against the side of Groot's head and tsks.]

[Leaning forward to get a better look, Gwen studies the assailant, head cocked as she uses the footage from the crime scene to try and understand his motivation. (Identify Motive - Sense Motive 33).]

[ to say that he is emotionally compromised would be an understatement. he seems angry, obviously, but there's a more deeply rooted fear there that gwen can pick up on as well. ]

[Groot looks around like....why are we still sitting here???]

We can take a moment before we go barging in unprepared. [Focusing on Wynn.] I think he's scared... It could be he feels this is something he has to do. That makes him even more dangerous but it also means we might be able to use that to get the hostages safely away.

[wynn]

Sir Cooper will take the lead on this mission, so I advise you to follow her advice.

[beatupgrass]

[dreary sigh] Look, if you wanna go that route, maybe Groot and I can talk nicely to the guy. Sort of a former criminal to current criminal reach-out.

[rocket has like no ranks in diplomacy and almost no charisma score and Groot doesn't even speak english.

but sure that's a plan.]

[gwenbloodycooper]

[Gwen nods at Wynn then fixes her attention on Rocket. Lips pressed together.]

Erm.... I think maybe we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, yeah? [That's called a Nat 20 Wisdom check ladies and gentlemen.]

[felidity]

[ gwen may be being nice about it, but kali doesn't feel the need to do the same. ] That sounds like a horrible plan.

[beatupgrass]

I'm great at talkin' to- [he snorts and presses his hand to his muzzle.] Okay, okay, I couldn't keep a straight face and say it. We'll let Kali talk to him. She's precious.

Are we done talkin' about this yet?

[And as the only member of the Dragon's Tongue in this room Gwen... Looks at Rocket a moment like. Did I suddenly lose the ability to speak?

She doesn't however comment, merely pushes her chair back.]

No I think we're done unless there's anything else, Sir?

[ kali looks around for a moment and decides that wynn thinks this is going to end violently. she doesn't seem displeased. ]

Gonna liberate some hostages, yay!
