It's been a couple of months since the hacker who goes by the moniker "One" assisted in the attack on the Knights' castle, with the inside assistance of the Artificial Intelligence-turned-human GLaDOS.  Zero has good reason to believe, however, that One hasn't left - that he's waiting for him to come face him, and that the stage he's set for the showdown is the CalTech building in the city, whose employees are off for the week.  Realizing it's likely a trap, Zero's stacked his chips on setting a counter-trap - uploading a virus designed by himself and Topher Brink into the now-cyborg Faye Chamberlain's brain, assuming that he is going to try to hack into her and turn her against them.  

They arrive at the building as the sun is going down, staring up at the building that has a light show of digital streams coursing down the front of it, drawing a snort from Zero.  

"Theatrical jackass."

[ she finds the door, that leads down into a stairwell. zero looks at her, and then back up at irving - who is still locked in place, that part clearly not an illusion, at least. ] I need to stay here, make sure nothing happens to him before it's complete. Think you can find it and do the same thing?

Knock out a body? Yeah. [ she starts to head toward the door, but pauses, glancing at his old friend before looking at him. ] Don't do anything stupid.

[ and then she WALKS AWAY. ]

Keep an eye on it! [ he shouts after her ] Your thing's not gonna work on a robot body and it should be empty anyways...

Technicalities!

[ she'll just search every floor one at a time until she finds a body/person/innocent bystander/vending machine to get a bottle of water. (spot/search 20 total) olly olly oxen free!! ]

[ the next floor down appears to be a series of cubicles, and she finds a vending machine to fulfill her water needs there. on the far side of that room, however, is the manager's office, and the door is slightly ajar, an eerie red light spilling out from within, sort of sparking in and out. i'm sure it's fine. ]

[ lila gently pushes it further open with the toe of her heels, looking for traaaaaaaaaaps. (search 21) ]

[ the room has been all but gutted, except for where glados' robot form hangs suspended from the ceiling, hooked up by wires to a number of computers on the wall, which are producing that strange red light. the robot body hangs limp and dead for all intents and purposes... but lila would notice what appears to be a red laser beam scanning across the floor around it ]

[ she doesn't want to get near that red beam so instead she chugs her water and rolls the bottle over into the line of the beam. (dex 17) ]

[ the red line hits the bottle... and instantly disintegrates it in a spectacular display ]

What the fuck. [ yeah, cool, not touching that. instead she looks around for an off switch (spot wow 6), while she tries to determine if this horrible laser beam of death is magical in nature (spellcraft 31) ]

[ nope, this one appears to be straight up technology... :( ]

[ well balls. no, she locked up last time, she doesn't have alex's little hacker friend around this time to help her. squaring her shoulders, she starts poking around to find a non-magical shut off mechanism (know: technology??? or computer use 20 total; spot 21 this time bless). ]

[ spending all that time with zero has definitely rubbed off - she glances over and sees where the laser is originating from a red eye hidden in the wall, and scans the rest of the room quickly. one of the screens seems to be flashing lightly in turn with the movement of the laser, and she realizes that if she can shut off the attached hard drive, it's likely that it'll shut down the trap. it is, however, across the room, but she can clearly see it from here. ]

[ welp she's gonna sprint over and try to do just that. (computer use 16 haha she tried) ]

[ running across the room triggers the beam again - ranged attack 25, which she'll need to make a fort save against if it hits her... ]

[ it definitely hits and her fort save was a huge 15. start a prayer circle. ]

[ it starts searing into her skin, for 30 dmg, so she'll have to save for massive damage, i believe... ]

[ yeah, she doesn't make that (fort save crit fail) and slumps to the ground. ]

The fuck!! [when topher and astrid make it over, astrid immediately directs all her attention to lila, whipping out her medkit like i'm gonna heal this bitch DON'T U DIE ON ME why did we split the party????? (treat injury 30; for 14 hp)]

[ lila comes to with a coughed: ] Laser. [ and a faint gesture to where the control is. ]

[andblockbuster]

[Topher's eyes follow where she's pointing as he lays Faye down safely in a corner.]

If you have any anti-laser defenses in that medkit, Astrid, now would be the time to share.

[Give him a second while he thinks of a plan..]

[ helpfully (?????) lila casts invisibility sphere and envelops them in invisibility, though they can see each other. ] Dunno if that'll work.

Anti-laser ... [she takes a moment to stare at topher like topher u ignorant slut. how is that even a thing.] Topher, you're the computer genius. You shut the lasers off for us.

I was just trying not to get hit by the lasers while trying to shut off the lasers!

[why him why this. at least they're invisible] Just... stay behind me... assuming you have to move with it. If you don't, I guess you can just stay here and hope I don't die.

[ blandly: ] I might just stay here.

[ or he can walk slowly because it's going to take her a second to stand the fuck up. ]
