chicago mission ♔ the people under your feet are shooting stars in the night

WHO || Gar, Kat, Mark, Dumage, Martha, Myri, Buffy, Sven, Spike, Desmond Descant, ??, ?? [Closed]
WHAT || The Knights infiltrate Nightscape to intercept a deal for the Eternal Jade. And... so does Des. At the same time. Hilarity ensues???
WHERE || Chicago. Nightscape.
WHEN || Friday, March 9th, various tiemes.
HOW || Actionspam; Don't sweat tagging order.
It's been a busy day. Following Gar's discovery of a message that seems to imply a trade for the artifact known as the Eternal Jade will take place at a location called "Nightscape" the next evening, several of the Knights headed out to the area outlined in Hoffman Institute files, only to discover the place was an office building that sold pharmaceuticals. However, as Myrilandel stared at a strange canopied fruit stand attached to the front of the building, she began to notice something, well, quite odd about it. A long line of people waited against the edifice to enter the stand, but none of them looked as if they fit into the commercial sector whatsoever, with their leather, vinyl, spiked hair, glitter, colored hair, etc. In fact, only by staring at the image presented and concentrating could the others recognize there was something wrong with the whole picture - something that caused theirs eyes to rebound off from it and find the entire scene innocuous otherwise. The line of people disappeared into the canopy - but none of the crowd ever came out again, defying any logic about how many people could humanly fit inside the tiny stand at a time.
It was clear that it wasn't just any fruit stand.
It was an entrance. They quickly surmised just what it had to be an entrance to. Myrilandel managed to note a number of guards emerging from the club after hours, dressed in some kind of futuristic looking armor that... looks a lot like Halo armor. She spotted the symbol on the side of the van they climbed into, and the surveillance team took note of it before heading back to the hotel.
Meanwhile, the research team back home (Kat, Buffy, and Sven mostly, since Gar passed out asleep in her chair) threw themselves into finding out what they could about Nightscape: and found rumors about an invite-only underground club, whose location was protected by magic, which seemed to mesh with what the other Knights had seen. The most interesting aspect of the club, however, wasn't just the fact that invitations to it come in the form of pills that implant directions into the subject's unconscious mind, but that supposedly it played havoc with the memories of those who frequent it. Every visit fades from the patron's mind when they leave, in the same way a dream does - they could remember a vague feeling of what it was like, but not any details about what actually occurred - and the more they attempted to remember, the more the memories would elude them.
Today, they've managed to look up that symbol Myri noticed on the side of the van and identify it as belonging to a private security firm that hires out to wealthy patrons in often underhanded deals. Which has allowed a plan of action to be hatched. :O
The Knights will coordinate efforts to plant a fake detour between the security firm and the club, derailing a van full of guards to lead to a stop light that will be controlled by Kat. And allow them to come up through a conveniently placed manhole to plant a device on the underbelly of the truck that will cripple its battery temporarily. At this point, the Knights will assume control of the vehicle, and Kat, Gar, Buffy, and Spike will don the armor of the guards and take their weapons, proceeding to the club as security personnel. Mark and Myrilandel will transport the captured guards to somewhere safe to keep them out of the way and possibly interrogate them. Dumage and Martha will drop off Sven at the club - he'll be attempting to bluff his way through the front door as a patron so that they can have an eye in the crowd as well, and then the ladies will park on the street to sit and wait as a getaway car / backup if necessary.
Obviously, nothing could possibly go wrong. :)

Maybe he'll just lay here and bleed and hiss and wait for the healing to kick in. One day.]

It's just a little bullet wound. Don't be a baby. Come on. [And she reaches a hand behind him to try to yank him up to sitting. It isn't very delicate. However, with her NAT TWENTY strength check, she pulls him to his feet single handedly. And gives the impression that she could probably carry him out if she had to 8|]
We're almost out.
[She thrusts open the doors down here, emerging back into the back halls of the club, and once more music floods over them, no longer muted, but rather this time a bright and lively trumpet pop number that sounds distinctly like Ricky Martin.]
♬ Shebangs - Ricky Martin]

She pulls him out through the table area and with a good enough pop culture check, Des might even realize that... that actually is Ricky Martin. On stage. Apparently this is where careers go to die.]
She bangs! She bangs!
Oh baby when she moves, she moves
I go crazy
Cuz she looks like a flower and she stings like a bee
Like every girl in history...
[Some patrons start mumbling and nudging each other at this unexpected emergence of Jade, but everyone seems too shocked to think about mobbing her at the moment. Unfortunately, the guards are not so slow to react and immediately move to block the beeline that Jade is making for the door.]
Now would be an excellent time for a bright idea.

Distract them with our fists, I figured. [But he holds off for the moment. He'd rather someone else do the hitting. He thinks better when his head doesn't feel like it's exploding.]

Step away from the girl.
[Her response is to roll her eyes and spread her hands, announcing:]
We're trying to get away from the guys who are trying to kill me. Get the hell out of our way! What am I paying you for? [Her response seems to at least momentarily confuse the shit out of him and he hesitates. Meanwhile, Gar and Kat burst out of the stairwell in the hallways, emerging around the corner across the club. Kat pauses halfway back, raising a hand and shouting something that sounds like:] NOCTIS!
[Immediately two out of the three guards start to waver where they stand and then slump to the ground. The third ones looks down and says in that flat robot voice:] -- what the hell...?

Not my first choice, believe me. [She moves towards the door as well, and they yank it open, moving into the narrow dark corridor. However, as they traverse the hall, the strangest feeling that they're forgetting something would start to creep over them...
Which really only grows as they moves away from the music, which becomes more and more muffled, and their heads start to feel the same way.*
*Will save of 15 or above, or memories start fading fast of everything that went on back inside the club ... A nat 20 memory check is the only thing that will preserve the memories. A 16 will last for the remainder of the day, 17 through the next day, 18 through the next few days, and a 19 will allow memories to linger for a week. The memory loss works precisely the same as attempting to remember a dream: you remember having it, but the more you grasp at details, the more vanishes.]

Now that they're out of immediate danger, she looks askance at Spike. She'd seen what he'd turned into back there. So much for the good vampires exist theory. She cringed a little, shutting her eyes tightly and letting her brow furrow as she realized Kat was probably going to have words with her about that one. Oh boy.
She pushes it down and turns to Des and Jade. ] So. You said those guys were from the Brotherhood. Brotherhood of what and why are they going all mafia on you, exactly?

And I was hoping you could tell me why everyone's trying to kill me today. I still don't know who you are.

You are too important to get shot at, [ she points at Jade first, then at Spike, ] you're gonna give yourself an aneurism one of these days, [ and then she points to Des, ] and you can barely stand.
Which leaves me the qualified party to deal with Master Chief and co. So, let me take 'em down, and you can follow when the coast is clearer. [ She looks at Jade. ] Kat and Gar should catch up soon. They should be able to clear this up.

Also, his will save was 12, so his life sucks, but honestly, he's more concerned with what Spike just said... before the headaches.] Wait. You're Wynn's kids? [He turns to Jade.] And I'll get back to you, because what the everloving fuck? [And then back to Buffy and Spike.] Seriously?
no subject
[ She looks at Spike. ] You're not warming the bench. You're ... being back-up. If Jade's right and I get my ass kicked all over the place in there, someone needs to be standing still to get Jade out of here and keep those Brotherhood freaks from getting her. Now ... Stop complaining and stay here.
no subject
... I don't think I even want to know why Fred's become a topic of conversation. But I'm way too happy to put an end to it. We're coming with you. [Annnd she shoves the door open, moving out into the lobby, along with Gar. There's a robotic shout from above out there saying "There they are! Stop them!"]
no subject
But she does have a point. And it does make sense to put the guy with the headaches on back-up instead of front line. With all luck, he won't have to hit anyone else. So he nods and turns to Jade.]
Come on, love. Let's wait for our opening.
