It's been a week since Sir Jeanne Gar was abducted by agents of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, despite the Knights' efforts to thwart the attempt.  Several of the younger Knights learned a harsh lesson as they watched the Mind Master shake even the seasoned Sir Hasmed, and turn some of their number on each other.   While Wynn has announced that they are determined to find a way to save Gar, it''s certainly obvious why he's hesitant to send agents out, after what the Mind Master alone has done to several Knights, including Finnick Odair, who may never be the same.  

A dark cloud hangs over the Knighthood, either way, dampening any enthusiasm won from their victory in finally taking down Dimitris Sarandis and two other notable members of the Shadow-hating Church led by Draken Crombe.

The sun is still up in the late evening, on this day, but there's a heaviness in the air.

It's frustrating because Crombe is right in that the Veil does bring unspeakable horrors, but... this world gave birth to his hatred. And Sarandis'. They found an outlet for it in the shadowkind, yes, but that sort of evil would have found a different target if the Veil never opened here. It isn't the cause of every problem. But to say so only seems that I am thinking of my own existence here.

No, Myri, you're right. And it's happened time and time again, without Shadowkind in the mix. Hatred like theirs doesn't come from the people they hate, it comes from themselves and their victims take the blame.

If they close the Veil, I would lose my Gift forever. But it's not that which concerns me. How many people could find a happier life here if they could step through the Veil? I would gladly give up my magic if it meant people who were as lost as I was could find a home in this world.

And how many people would think it's okay to take what the don't like about this world and shove them through the veil to who knows where? What world will the veil open up to? Keeping it open is dangerous.

[witchwoman]

I'm not saying that I agree with the idea of leaving it open for good either. There would be no way to control what comes and goes. There's no control over what slips through now, but at least a most of those that come through are harmless.

[idk myri do you have any stats to back that up? nope.]

I don't understand why we can't just leave it as it is.

Me either, honestly. I mean, sure, there are some flaws, but that's life. Tough shit, deal with it.

[Myri lets out a sigh, leaning against Vi before she suddenly thinks of something and goes to pull her phone from her pocket.]

I'm letting Elena know what happened. [She narrates as she texts Elena:

Crombe and the Mind Master came to the castle. They took Rafael in exchange for a promise to return Gar. Everyone else is safe, including the children, but wanted you to know. We'll be coming up with a plan to get him back soon, I'm sure.]

Tell her she doesn't need to come back yet. We don't even know when the auction is and if we're even thinking about fighting the Mind Master she's going to need every second of training she can get.

[witchwoman]

[Nodding she adds:

Vi says you don't need to come back yet. We'll let you know once we have a plan. We love you.]

There's always a chance she'll come back out of worry, but... I just feel like she should know what's going on.

[doubletake]

[The reply comes relatively quickly.]

[Myri lets out a small breath of relief when the reply comes.]

She says she loves us too. And to keep her updated.

I miss her, [ vi admits softly, shifting shayla off her shoulder and into her arms once she's also fallen asleep. a pile of sleeping babies and sad mommies. ]

I know. I do, too. I'd much prefer to keep everyone in one place, but more and more it seems that's just not the way of things.

Maybe it's for the best. We tend to attract trouble when we're all together.

[She can't really deny the truth of that. Instead of saying anything, she just leans her head against Vi and lets out a small sigh.]
