[After gathering the four of them together, Wynn filled them in on a series of mysterious shipwrecks that have been happening off the coast of Scotland. After gathering all the details, the team arrives on the waterfront of Inverness, and Shawn freezes as the group is walking along the water, bringing his hands up to his head.]

Please hold while I recalibrate my psychic senses!

[And then he will proceed to spread his arms out at his sides and run in figure eights, kind of like what your GPS app will ask you to do when it needs to be recalibrated. It will culminate with him spinning around in circles for a few counts, before he skids to a stop in front of a local bar.]

The Spirits are telling me we should investigate in that direction.

[Or maybe his years of pop culture knowledge tell him that that is a perfect place to find a gnarly old sea dog.]

[ perhaps crane's struck by the oddity of this group as he shakes thoster's hand. maybe it's the way they actually respond to him instead of lightly assaulting him as have the natives, but he pushes the manifests closer toward the group. shawn earns crane's sternest of linefaces. ]

While I would not name myself a sailor, I am familiar with travel by sea, yes. Though-- anyone could see the suspect nature of this recent spat of wrecks when presented alongside the favorable conditions of late.

[ baal can sense that the other people in the bar are just people, kind of leery of new people in their quiet fishing village, perpetually annoyed with crane, but considering the happenings that's also pretty reasonable. he'll also be able to tell that lorelei herself may know more than she's letting on, busying herself with cleaning the bar while she watches them chat. shawn notices a large barnacled conch shell helpfully labeled "tips" that is filled with a handful of the gold and silver one and two pound coins. ]

Fair weather? [ amy sits down in the chair closest to crane, SURPRISE OF SURPRISES. she leans over to read the list of ship names quickly (none of them are named the amelia anything so she thinks they're rubbish) and the weather conditions during their wrecks before she leans back toward crane, all curious eyes and a patented flirtatious smile. hello, sir. ] How can a ship sink in fair seas?

[Shawn is going to get up again, because he can't sit still for the life of him, is going to get up and inspect said conch shell while keeping an ear on the rest of the group (listen nat 20).]

Plenty of ways for it to happen. But all of them involve some sort of foul play. Either tampering with the ship itself or some sort of magic. [Thoster rubs at his chin, deep in thought.]

Have you been able to get a look at any of the ships themselves? Better yet- could you take us to them?

[He just wants to get a look at it for himself.]

[Thoster and Amy seem to have this Crane dude handled. Shawn is off... being Shawn. So Baal will just turn his attention back to Lorelei with a smile (Charm/Diplomacy 22)]

So, beyond Mister Crane over there, what else have you heard about these shipwrecks?

[ the abrupt arrival of amy takes his attention briefly (wow hi hello), but he turns back at thoster's request with blooming frustration. ]

Certainly. [ he gestures to a crudely-drawn sketch of the shore and expanse of water, freckled with little x's at each wreck site, far offshore. his tone turns bitter with sarcasm. ] Allow me to fetch my Howker and we shall set sail.

No ship of your own, then? [At least that's how he's reading that bitterness???] No matter, friend! I'm sure we can convince on of these fine fellows to allow us passage. [He looks around at the other patrons in the bar.] If Amy's smile doesn't convince them, a little coin in the pocket never hurt, eh?

[ SMILES. and with a 23 charm check it's... maybe not better than gold, but it's not bad! ]

[ well. lorelei is thoroughly charmed, dragging her attention away from the table to focus on baal. ]

It's not fit for polite conversation, love. Some sea stories aren't just stories. But I might be willin' to help you find a boat if you lot can walk and talk.

[Shawn also going to swan over next to Baal, and hold up the tip jar in his hand.]

[ allow him to gingerly snatch that last map from your hand so he can stuff it into and close up his bag while standing up. it seems that the prospect of getting eyes on the wrecks is a favorable proposition. and the polite addition from the lovely ginger doesn't hurt, either. ]

As soon as we secure passage. Amy, keep the lad company. I'll be right back.

[Gonna go do his thing and wander around the bar until he finds someone who looks like they might have a boat and try to offer them a fair wage to take them out to the wreckage. Diplomacy 33]

[ i mean, amy isn't gonna say no to that. ]

It's a tip jar, [ lorelei answers, snatching it back out of shawn's hands and setting it down on the bar where it belongs with a slight sense of unease.

the one person that seems willing to help thoster is the teenager doing his homework, who claims to have a sailboat that they can borrow. it only has two seats though and he seems super excited to skip his homework and take it out one on one with amy. when lorelei overhears this, she interrupts with a put upon sigh. ]

I've got a boat. [ her eyes flicker to baal. ] You can sail?

[Shawn watches her do that curiously, because that's not normally how someone would treat their tips if they actually belonged to Lorelei, but he'll keep quiet for now if it means they can get on her boat and check out the shipwreck.]

I can sail. [if Thoster lets him. Pirates have a hard time sharing sometimes when it comes to boats.] What kind of ship is she?

[Thoster's eyes return to the bartender, who apparently was holding back on them. He smiles wide and gestures for Amy and Ichabod to follow him back to the bar.]

Full of surprises, aren't ya, lass? Aye, my friend can sail. And the rest of us make for a decent crew. [He's not going to throw his pirate weight around. Baal was his squire, and a fine one at that. Plus, he's always curious to see how other men captain their ships.]

When do we leave?

[ ok so crane had been standing there, awkwardly trying to figure out what to say to amy while watching her buddies as he clutched his research to his chest. but upon hearing lor's admission, his mouth drops agape. ]

[ seriously why is scotland SO RUDE ]

[ "It's a fishing boat and we leave now, before the sun goes down." she tosses the keys under the bar to the grizzled old man sitting there. stepping from behind the bar, she jerks her head to the door, uncomfortably avoiding crane's entire area before she sets out. ]

[Thoster seems incredibly amused and absolutely tickled to be heading for a boat. Happy pirate is very happy. He follows the bartender out, whistling a tune as he goes.]

[Shawn's going to follow along as well, still keeping an eye out for weirdness as he goes, but mostly focusing on Lorelei because something shady's going down.]

[Baal just turns to look at the other men after Lorelei has passed, smirking that 'sorry guys, guess she likes me best' grin, and then fell in step beside her.]

So perhaps I should be asking you then what your interest in the shipwrecks are, my dear?

This is my home, I don't need a reason. [ she keeps leading them out, turning toward the marina with a purposeful stride before she continues. ] The wrecks aren't caused by the sea, they're caused by the reckless townspeople.
