open ♔ socialization log

WHO || Everyone! [ota]
WHAT || Shenanigans.  THIS IS MOSTLY AN OVERFLOW POST for the last social log whoops

WHERE || Anywhere in the castle, surrounding environs, London, Andres, etc!
WHEN || Any time in May/June
HOW || Actionspam

[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.  This takes place after the Knights have returned from Dimitris' wedding.

You are encouraged to start your own threads and tag around, and feel free to threadjack into any on-going threads that aren't specified as 'closed' in the subject lines since people can enter into rooms even in the middle of what's going on. WE ARE BIG ON THREAD-JACKING HERE. You can also specify 'single thread', meaning you want only one response for all participants, rather than multi-thread, where a number of different scenes/threads can be done as replies to the top prompt.]

[She brightens a little bit, unaware of the fact that she'd needed the reassurance at all, but her situation is still so new that she's not quite at ease with it yet-- it's only that the overwhelming change of being in a new world has let her distract herself from more personal concerns.]

Yes, I suppose we will.

[She almost thanks him again, but she realizes she's repeated herself several times over by now, even as she cleans up the patch of counter beside the microwave itself.]

You didn't stare at me.

[She makes that observation matter-of-factly; most people, so far, have done at least a little bit of staring, either because of her loss or her ears.]

[He gives a small shrug.]

The people I was with before I came here - we called them Vikings. They tended to be without their limbs more often than not, and they still went charging into battle without question. For them, the glory was in the battle, and the more wounds they took for their cause, the more honor they would receive when they finally died in battle.

[Vikings are weird.]

And I used to work with elves sometimes too. I guess I'm just used to it.

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-07-01 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods her understanding-- the Vikings themselves sound a little bit like Qunari to her, at least as far as their view of combat and what they consider to be honorable. That may be where the similarities end, but it's different all the same.]

The loss is-- something I'm still getting used to.

[Something she hasn't let herself think about more than she needs to, even if it being a hindrance has been more and more noticeable as she's tried to settle herself in.]

At home, people kept saying how sorry they felt for me. It got tiresome, after awhile.

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-07-02 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods in agreement.]

It's kind of turned into that thing you say when you don't know what else to say.
twistingveil: (06)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-07-03 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[It makes sense. She's not sure what else people are supposed to say, if not that.]

To be honest, I'm not certain what else I expected. But I don't need pity.

[He shakes his head.]

No one does. But they'll get past it eventually.

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-07-07 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's nice to be reminded of that sometimes. Although--

[She falters just a little, frowning to herself as she cleans up the last of the mess by the microwave itself.]

If what they say about the Veil is to be believed, then it doesn't matter, does it. I'll never see those people again, unless they happen to follow me here.

[He nods slowly, before quietly, tentatively putting this out there.]

You know, the healing magic here is quite powerful. The clerics in the Dragon's Light may be able to reform your hand, if you liked.

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-07-10 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[She presses her lips together, thoughtful.]

I had heard such things. I have considered it, but it's not quite so simple. The hand was lost due to ancient magic that had gone out of control, destroyed it.

[The story is much longer and more complicated, but she's sure that he can see why she might be hesitant.]

I find it hard to believe that even with the hand gone, all that power is gone without a trace. I'm concerned about what adverse effects it might have if other magic were introduced. Elvhen magic is very singular, in its way. Even the greatest scholars in my world couldn't make heads or tails of it.

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-07-12 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[David may not understand a whole lot about magic, but that at least seems reasonable. Which means he gets to offer a practical, but less magical solution.]

They also have what they call prosthetic limbs - they're mechanical and they can replace the use of your hand. I've heard that some of them have gotten pretty good.
twistingveil: (04)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-07-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
A mechanical limb? Truly?

[That sounds a bit safer, and a lot less like toying with a force that she already feels she's tampered with quite enough.]

Do they help? I don't mean it to sound like I can't manage with just one, but... [She falters, just for a moment.] It feels so strange. That's all.

[He nods and he pulls out his phone. It takes him a moment because typing on his phone his never his strong suit (computer use 7). Why do you think he calls everyone and doesn't text? He has big meat fingers. But after a second he tries again (computer use 13), and he pulls up a picture of some of the more modern prosthetics.]

If you have a lot of money, you could get a pretty decent one. And the Knights have a pretty big budget.

[She moves closer to get a better look, eyes widening a bit in awe-- smartphones are still pretty incredible to her, after all.]

They wouldn't mind my spending it on something like this?

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-07-22 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He shakes his head.]

Even if they didn't, your paycheck is pretty hefty. You could probably afford it all on your own.

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-07-26 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, I'm still not used to having to manage any kind of currency. With the Inquisition, one of my companions usually handled it for me-- before then, everything exchanged between Dalish clans was handled with trade, if necessary. We did most things for ourselves.

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-07-28 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[David nods in agreement.]

I get that. But I'm pretty sure there are people who can help you with that. They have a lot of tools to make it really easy these days.
twistingveil: (03)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-08-03 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
There seems to be some kind of aid for nearly anything you can think of in this world.

[Certainly not a complaint, even if it's a little startling.]

You've been very kind-- though I worry I've taken up enough of your time today already.

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-08-05 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He shakes his head.]

I was just going to go dig around in the library. Threat of fire is much more exciting.

[He's teasing, a little, but his phone is friendly.]
twistingveil: (08)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-08-12 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
[It coaxes a blush out of her all the same, though the tone of friendly teasing is a somewhat familiar one, reminding her of some of the company she kept back home.]

Usually, any fires I cause are a great deal more controlled.

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-08-13 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
That is good to know. We did just remodel, after all.
twistingveil: (13)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-08-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not quite as careless with my magic as I seem to be with silverware.

[Still, lesson learned.]

Remodeled? That's right-- the attack. [Her expression sobers, slightly.] There must have been a great deal of rebuilding to be done.
generaldavideus: (Default)

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-08-15 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods in agreement.]

The entire Dragon's Light wing was pretty much destroyed, along with the squire rooms.
twistingveil: (06)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-08-15 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunate.

[Her face falls slightly, sympathetic.]

Back home, the Inquisition was attacked, as well. We lost our home for a time, and there were many casualties. You have my deepest sympathies.
generaldavideus: (Default)

[personal profile] generaldavideus 2016-08-19 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods, before giving her a small smile.]

We rebuilt stronger. That's all that matters.
twistingveil: (10)

[personal profile] twistingveil 2016-08-19 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes-- we did the same.

[She smiles again, offering her own nod of solidarity.]

It's the best thing you can do for yourselves. Let it strengthen you, rather than divide.
