The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[she's not sure how often this whole "picking up strays" thing happens on missions- sure they have to get their recruits somewhere, but... they can afford to be discerning about who they invite. she's gonna feel honored.]

Whoa. Wait. Really? [she squeaks happily] It's been so long since I've had a redheaded mentor. It's like fate. ...Also how do you feel about pigs?

Uh, I mean, I'm on the fence with bacon because my mom always bought turkey bacon because Dad's got heart disease and it's less sodium, but I like the flying pig mobile my brother bought for my nephew so. [ her head tips back and forth like she's deciding. ] Pro-pigs.

Oh good, 'cause I have one, and that'd be a little awkward. [technically he's a boar, but it felt like a betrayal of Waddles to get an actual pig.]

Oh. Well, Faith has a giant snake and Will has thirty seven dogs and Lan has a horse named Daisy so a pig is kind of, well, normal. Someone has a bear.

[she gently places her hands on Alice's shoulder, eyes alight with wonder.] I have found my people.

[ that prompts a laugh because you dork ] Yeaah, I think you probably have.

[she releases her shoulders.] So what's a squire do anyway? Do I just job shadow you while you do knight stuff?

Honestly, I was a squire for literally less than two weeks before I was knighted, so I have no idea. But theoretically, I help you train and find your place and then kick you out of my nest when we decide you're capable enough to graduate.

I'm pretty used to being kicked outta nests, lemme tell you. Won't even cling to your leg afterwards.

You can, if you want. I'm still clingy with Thoster. And I promise, I will not promote you after two weeks because that was just crazy. Hopefully your trials by fire will be less fiery.

[ she mimes wiping the sweat off her brow.] What caused that anyway, so I know what to expect from a really fiery trial by fire.

[she rolls her eyes.] Now fire sounds like a nonsense word.

Remember when we mentioned Andres Island? [ her hands presses to her chest just below her breasts, heel of her hand pressed to her sternum. she's mostly over it now. ] That was my first mission.

[her eyes go wide as saucers] Holy cats, that's not a trial by fire. That's going scuba diving in a flippin' volcano.

I... I don't think you'd really use scuba gear for that. Although Pierce Brosnan's truck did have a snorkel in that one movie.

I would hope you don't go diving in volcanoes period, but, hey, you guys toppled a minor European country's government before some of you were even full knights.

[those two things are not even remotely related, but she's a little bit in shock.] Dipper and me have a lot to live up to.

Whoa there, don't go down that road. That is a road paved in failure. Mostly because I don't think there is another little country that Wynn needs to put the rightful king in charge of so you're, like, asking to set yourself for an unattainable goal. My goal at the time was mostly "Alice, don't die". [ a beat. ] Which worked out pretty well.

[mabeljuice]

Yeah, yeah. I'm just saying... [she sighs and throws her arms behind her, trying to look casual when she is everything but and no longer convincing herself or anyone else of that.] Dipper and me have kinda set the bar pretty high just for being us, and we've grown up around people who didn't think we were up to snuff in anything we did, even though we've done a lot of things. I mean, he got possessed by an evil triangle in the middle of my sock puppet rock opera, and I had to save him. Stuff like that's normal for us, but not everyone sees that when they look at us. They see dumb kids in over their heads.

Yeah, I get that. [ she's a millennial, people have been underestimating her for her entire life. hell, she's been underestimating herself. ] Imma get back to the triangle thing in a sec. People are still going to underestimate you here. You're my age, you're a girl, you have a brother near you all the time that people are going to assume is the capable one because he is a dude.

Yeah... That's kinda the point. [she shrugs] It's gonna happen, so we gotta just keep being us. Also the triangle thing is complicated.

The upside is that if no one expects anything of you, you can't disappoint them? [ wow, alice, that was just fucking sad. ]
