after-party ♔ july

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || July 1st, 2016, 6:00PM [backdated]
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

That's me. [ Even if it's still weird being called Sir. But, it's fine. She'll get used to it - she understands the reasons behind it even if it's still a little wonky to hear. ] Nice to meet a fellow squire. Have you been doing this long? Any tips or tricks for a newbie?

[ Might as well ask while things are still a little quiet on the actually doing things front. ]

A few months now, though it's gone by quickly.

[Faster, in some ways, than time back home ever had, and yet slow for the lack of peril she'd been faced with here. It was quite a chance of pace from what she was used to, though one might argue it was for the better.]

Well, first and foremost, don't be afraid to ask questions. I've had to ask countless, and most of the other Knights have been happy to answer them. My world is quite different from this one-- it's been an adjustment.

[ Is it weird that she's actually really happy to hear that someone else is still pretty new to this? Yeah, totally weird. ] This seems like the type of situation that makes time fly? [ Partying and trying to not die tend to do that.

It's a curious thing, though. That mention of a different world. ]
I'm grateful for that, although I'm pretty stellar at jumping off the cliff headfirst and not totally biffing the landing. [ Literally once, of course... She'd been pushed instead of voluntarily going. She gives a soft laugh, lips quirking to the side. ] Do you ever get homesick?

[Not weird at all! There's great comfort in solidarity.]

In some ways, yes. I do feel a bit idle, as though I could be doing more, but my being here at the castle has also given me time to learn about this world-- and there's been a lot to learn.

[She's feeling confident in her ability to re-master her own magic, at least, which is important to her. She's felt adrift without her connection to the Fade, but not having control over her own power had been strange, more alien even than the new landscape.

Her smile turns a little wistful, reserved, and she nods.]

Quite often, though I'd been away from home for a long while even before I came here. I do miss Thedas, and my friends there. It's difficult to accept that we're unable to return. I'm sure I'm not the only one who still holds out hope.

[ Her feelings of home are torn, considering what she can remember. This place so far was already leaps and bounds ahead of what was waiting for her there. Friends were far and few between, having formed a few friendships out of survival, watched others fall apart or result in their deaths. If followed her like a dark cloud, one of the reasons she was going to be cautious in really getting to know people around here.

At least for the first few months. ]

That could definitely be said about any place. A learning curve, at least. I'm definitely interested to stick around and seeing if this is gonna be as good as I think it will. I've just had the bottom fall out a few too many times to come into this completely optimistic.

[Ashe nods again slowly, offering her understanding.]

You're cautious. There's nothing wrong with that.

[A little caution rarely ever hurt anyone.]

But I hope that you do find this place meets your expectations, in that case. That you find something good here for yourself.

I know a few people who might disagree with that idea.

[ It's said lightly because she knows in reality, they'd probably be all for caution as long as caution didn't result in hesitation. Since hesitation tended to get people killed. She'd rather not be a spirit for someone to talk to, thank you very much. ]

But, yes. I'll take good for a change. [ She had enough blood on her hands, there wasn't a need to add more. Not right now. ] Seems to be a theme around here, that search for something good or rewarding... For whatever reason. Karma, love, acceptance... Just goes to show how dynamic we all are. [ Or at least how dynamic everyone she met was because no two reasons for joining seemed to be the same. It was cool. ]

I think it's a theme most everywhere, don't you? It may not seem that way at first, but deep down, isn't that what most of us wants?

[She's always thought so, even if she knows that realistically, people are more varied. Still, at the core of them, it seems to her like everyone wants the same thing to a certain degree, even if they go about it different ways, or don't quite realize what it is that they want.]

Most of us want something better for ourselves, or the people we care about.
