Mars took more than a couple days before sending a message to his new squire. He had busied himself with other things and lost track of time. He was waiting in the Garden to meet him at first. Venus was chasing insects around while Mars was sitting on a bench reading while he waited for the other. He wasn't off to a good start at being a mentor in his own opinion but that didnt mean he would give up.

Cisco had never been a squire before. Nor had he ever believed in magic. But it seemed like he was going to have to do both if he was going to survive in this world.

He was a little late to meeting Mars in the Garden, still getting a feel for the layout of the huge mansion. He didn't dress up for the meeting, but then again, he never dressed up for anything. "Hey," he said, jogging up. "Sorry I'm late, got a little lost.

Cisco leaned down to give Venus a head scritch before he straightened and put his hands on his hips, looking around the lush gardens. (Gotta give love to the cat first, it's only polite.) He tilted his head and shrugged a little.

"Eh, about as well as I can, I guess." As well as can be expected when he's trapped on an Earth that's not his, unable to get home. "I've been doing some research, learning what I can about... everything." He'd spent most of his time in the computer lab, reading up on the differences between this Earth and his own.

As far as Cisco's concerned, that head scritch was the extent of his cat-greeting duty. Venus is welcome to nuzzle away, but there will be no more scritches forthcoming.

He nods and sits, rubbing his hands on his thighs as he tries to think of a way to sum up his Earth to an outsider.

"My world was pretty normal up until about two and a half years ago. No magic, nothing out of the ordinary. Then... we built this particle accelerator, and it blew, releasing a cloud of dark matter energy that.. well, it transformed people. We call them metahumans." He should say 'us,' not 'them,' but it's still an adjustment. "Metahumans are people with powers. My friend is one, I'm one." There, there's his confession. Good enough, right?

"Anyway, there's all sorts of other stuff back home involving time travel and parallel Earths. I was trying to open a breach to another Earth when that veil thing grabbed me and pulled me here instead." He can't exactly remember why he was opening a breach to Earth Two, but... that's not really important.

Sitting as he is, it's easier to reach Venus, so he relents and gives her another pet. Damn that cat.

"It's very sci-fi, for sure. And it's not so much that there are prejudices against it, as it is just that... Well, it's unexpected, and the majority of the people who've turned out to be metas have all been criminals. People don't know how to react, except to be scared." When superpowered criminals attach your city, you're right to be afraid.

He looks up at the question, frowning slightly. "Another particle accelerator? Probably not. I'd need a bigger team to do it, and there isn't really a point to it." It was never his project to spearhead, anyways. It was Doctor Wells' baby.

The purring is just evil. It's a trick to get him to pet her more, so she'll purr more. He sees what you're up to, cat.

"Kind of? But mostly we just have bad luck, I think." Aside from a few, like Firestorm, or Plastique, the metas have been mostly rogues.

He laughs at the 90s kids TV references. "Dude, why do you think I became a scientist? Bill Bill Bill Bill Bill." He even does the dorky voice.

He tries to hold out but that snuggling is just too much. Have some more scritches, you dastardly feline.

High fives are go! "So what kind of stuff does a squire-knight relationship entail? I don't have to like, clean up after you or anything, do I?"
picksthenames: (that right there)

"Right," Cisco says, rubbing his hands on his thighs. "About those spells. You were going to give me a demonstration?"

He's still somewhat skeptical that magic is even real, and the whole shadow-kind thing isn't just metahuman activity gone beserk.

Okay, that's... definitely real fire. Even from here, Cisco can feel the heat of it. And it just appeared. But this isn't too different from what Firestorm can do. Cisco's still not convinced it's magic.

"Fire's good, but I've seen it before. What else you got?"

Okay, fire, electricity, and now mist. Cisco's a little more impressed. Still not totally convinced it's magic and not just a metahuman with elemental abilities. But he doesn't feel like arguing.

"Impressive. So is it all about summoning various elements?"
