The journey to discovering the truth behind the Homo Magi and the curse laid upon their people, in hopes of breaking the spell that has caused the sorceress Amara to obsess over David Charming for years, has been a long and winding road.  It last led them underwater, to the lost city of Atlantis, once the home of the Homo Magi, where they discovered that the cursed had been laid upon them by Poseidon himself, when one of their kind shared the sacred secrets of Mystra with a mortal who they fell in love with.  This led to a falling out between Mystra and Poseidon, and he cursed the Magi to keep them from ever contacting humanity again.  This curse was said to be unbreakable, until the sea god was appeased, but Lila's protests led to a punishment which Emma Swan took in her place - rendering her a kelpie by night until she earned the respect of Mystra.  This curse would later lead her to kill Killian in the madness of the castle attack.  Zatanna claimed to know someone who could undermine a god's curse, and to that end searched high and low for the mysterious John Constantine, who she has brought to the castle.  

At last, he has gathered them here for a seance of sorts, and they find the room cloaked in candles and drapery, various strange figurines and tiny fetishes scattered about.

[David doesn't have any magic, so that question isn't really relevant to him, but he does look slightly nervous about being a "grounding wire" whatever that means.

Regardless, he swallows hard and holds out a hand to Lila and Snow respectively.]

[ here is the seating chart btw for posterity. zatanna takes her dad's hand and gives john a side-eye before taking his. ] He's going to do an incantation. It's... a different kind of spell, that even those who don't practice can contribute their energy to. The more, the merrier, so to speak.

She reaches out to take both his and David's hand, doing her part to complete the circle.]

[ lila takes david's hand easily enough, holding out her hand for amara. ]

[ Emma side-eyes Gold but begrudgingly takes his hand in hers. It's a matter of necessity, and she can accept that it's a professional thing.

But Hook ...

She stares him down, realizes this will be uncomfortable for PERSONAL, not "I think you're evil" reasons, and reaches out more gingerly to offer him hers. Like she doesn't think she has the right anymore to just go for it. ]

[ giovanni has no such emotional hang-ups. he's just gonna take hook's hand. ]

[Hook is making eye contact with Emma and having awkward emotions and then Giovanni just grabs his hand, ruining the moment. He sighs and takes Emma's hand, turning to look at Constantine and Zatanna.]

Zatanna, love, get us a bit of a mood going, won't you? [ the off the cuff remark certainly draws a Look from dad over there, but she merely smirks a bit and then leans back, closing her eyes and exhaling, before she chants: "Yb thgileldnac". her eyes open, flashing a strange unearthly blue, and the regular lights in the room are extinguished, the candles remaining the only source of illumination, flickering in a strange wind that seems to gust once through the room and then vanish. ] Brilliant.

Now. How many here can say they've communed with the true divine before?

[Weeeeeeeeell David has talked to and been in the presence of gods before, but he doesn't know if that counts as communing.]

I've been around them before, but not like this.

Well, I've looked in the mirror. That count? [He glances over at Emma and smirks.]

Not inasmuch as I remember.

[But he was the fucking Dark One. Maybe the Dark One communes with ALL THE GODS.]

[ lila isn't sure telling poseidon to fuck off can really be considered communing and she tries not to think about the shadow plane at all ever so she doesn't speak up, but she looks over at amara. SOMEONE definitely channeled king salt dick when they were in atlantis. ]

I think the smart people probably avoid communing with them when they can help it.

Rightly so. What we're about to do isn't exactly that - gods like Zeus and Poseidon and so on aren't gods in the way you might imagine. They're more like spirits who managed to snatch up a fair share of power after death. Because of that, they're harder to get in touch with - might require a sacrifice or two from regular folks, but we're going to try to tap a direct pipeline.

Charming. And how dangerous is that exactly? I can only imagine that bothering a spirit arrogant enough to call itself a god without an appointment would be a grave insult.

We're going to just tap into something that requires a sacrifice? [ she looks around like do we need to sign a waiver for this ]

[generaldavideus]

Or are we skipping the sacrifice because we're not regular people.

[He just wants to be clear here, because he's as confused as Emma is.]

I said we're bypassing the sacrifice. We're going to try to summon one down, not invite one for tea.

Who are we summoning, exactly?

[Call her curious. She's not exactly very familiar with any of this.]

[David also is super nervous about this, but he'd just be asking questions that other people are already asking. But to Snow's question he turns with a small shrug.]

I'm assuming he means Poseidon?

[That's the logic he's following, for now.]

[David just nods slowly, not really having anything to contribute further. He is not comfortable with this (or any) kind of magic, really, but he is definitely ready to get this over with.]
