It's been months since Spike took the insane risk of heading straight into the bad guys' lair in order to bring Dumage back, after she seemingly betrayed everyone and chose to go with them. Wynn has vouched for Spike's appraisal of the situation - backed by Dumage's own story - that she merely went with them in the first place to keep them from killing Spike at the warehouse.

However, since she's returned, she's withdrawn quite a bit. She stays out of common areas, barely leaves the castle, seems increasingly paranoid that Crombe and company are going to find a way to track her down. Because of this, whatever ground she and Spike had covered during his rescue seems to have vanished out from under him. Her skittishness seems to extend to him as well, and it's not until after they have a date set in stone for the impending concert, that she sends him a text.

Hey, it's Dumage! The woman who's been driving him bloody insane for years now, who he finally kissed and then... nothing. Nothing for so long. At least in this case it's because she's bad at emotions, not because she's off being questionably a traitor.

As always, his feelings are complicated. But not so complicated that he'd leave a text at read and not reply. He's not an animal.

What else is new? Suicide charges are sort of our modus operandi.

You really do think we're going to die, then.

[Oh ho. Well....]

I'll be over in a few minutes.

[And indeed, a few minutes later, there's a knock.]

[ she at least opens the door herself, looking him over for a few minutes. she looks pale. tired. ] Come in, then.

[bigbad]

[He slips in, shoving his hands in his pockets as he frowns at her.]

You all right, love?

[postergirl]

Peachy. [ she shuts the door, leaning against it and folding her arms tightly across her chest ] There's no talking Wynn out of this, is there?

[bigbad]

[He shrugs and raises an eyebrow.] Unlikely. You think we should?

[postergirl]

I already tried. [ she slumps onto a sitting position on the edge of the bed ] He won't listen to me.

[bigbad]

[He hesitates for a moment, then goes over to sit next to her.]

You really think it's a bad idea, huh? I mean, of course it's a bad idea, but a bad idea we shouldn't do.

[postergirl]

It's not just a trap. It's a trap where they have all the cards, and we're giving them more.

[bigbad]

What else can we do? [He turns towards her, pulling a knee up on the bed. He is honestly curious if she has any other ideas, cause he sure doesn't. Not that he's any sort of strategic genius.] They've underestimated us before.

[postergirl]

Not go. They've had Rafael this long and presumably haven't hurt him? Do we really think this will do it?

We strike them when they're not expecting it. They're going to be prepared for us. Everything about us.

[bigbad]

[Spike should.... probably care more about if Rafael gets hurt or not. He definitely sort of cares. I mean, it matters. To... the team.

She does have a good point, though. It's possible Spike's tendency to see a trap and go "oh, I should stick my hand in that and see what happens" is a terrible idea and only his insane amount of it points has allowed him to get away with it for so long.]

Well, it's not like any of this is news to Wynn, right? If he thinks it's a good idea, he's got to have a reason.

Unless he's off his rocker. He hasn't exactly been the bastion of sanity lately, when it comes to decisions.

[bigbad]

[He raises an eyebrow.] You mean when he sent me after you?

[postergirl]

That's certainly a prominent example.

[bigbad]

Worked out, didn't it?

[postergirl]

On a fluke. We might not come back from this. I might not. Blade will want my head on a platter.

I'm not exactly comfortable with facing down my mortality this way.

[bigbad]

You're coming with? [He sits up sharply.] All right, yeah, that is a stupid plan.

[postergirl]

They specified all of us, and Wynn is taking that as literally as possible. Personally, I think it's his way of seeing whether I'm actually choosing his side after all. Sweet of him to attach that to a death warrant.

Either way, it's done.

[bigbad]

That's bloody stupid. [He stands up, pacing.] We just got you back, why would he send you right back in their hands like that?

[postergirl]

Because I'm expendable to him, if it means stopping the Nightmare God.

[bigbad]

[He stares at her. Wynn wants to stop the Nightmare God, of course, they all do, and they're all aware they might not all make it out, but... expendable? Seems a harsh word for it. He shakes his head.]

No, that doesn't track. How does rescuing you help us defeat him more than it risks? Not that I think you're not important, love, but if anything important you know they've probably already found out.

[postergirl]

[ homeostasis - nostalghia

she stares back at him, a dull fear in her eyes ] Then maybe it's about his ego. I don't care. The point is that is all bloody stupid. And Blade...

[ she stops herself, from whatever words were about to erupt from her mouth in an angry passion ]

This - he has ruled my life for years, you know. The time I've put into taking him down, the things I've--

I'm tired of it.

[bigbad]

Blade what?

[He shakes his head and reaches for her hands.]

You shouldn't come if you don't want to. He's not a bloody dictator. The entire point of this operation is that it's opt-in.

[postergirl]

It really isn't. But I'm not about to sit here while you all go off and never come back.

[bigbad]

So you want to come? [He gives her a slight smile, raising his eyebrows.] Or you don't want any of us to go?

[postergirl]

[ she rolls her eyes in evident exasperation, but then her hands move up to his shoulders and push him back on the bed, as she kisses him fiercely, suddenly, with pretty singular purpose ]

[bigbad]

[Oh, oh, this is... well, Spike's not opposed, exactly, but after a moment he still, pushes her back gently (will 24).]

Love... not that I'm complaining, but is this one of those "we're about to die" sorts of things? Cause on the off chance we don't die, we should talk first.

[postergirl]

[ she looks a little insulted tbh ] If we don't die, we can talk after.

[bigbad]

[He reaches forward, cupping her face softly and meeting her eyes. There's longing there, and certainly lust, but also some degree of pain. It's nothing Dumage is responsible for. But he can't quite bring himself to let go entirely.

He's done it before. It didn't end well.]

I just want to know I'm more than just a convenient warm body to you. [A beat.] Well, room temperature body. You know what I mean.

I've never needed company before, and I certainly don't now. If I'm here, there's probably a reason.

[bigbad]

A reason, huh? [He smiles, hesitating for one more moment before pulling her into another kiss.

He still has his doubts. He might always have doubts. But he does want her, so badly, and has for so long, so for now, reason is good enough.]

[postergirl]

[ she might have her own doubts too, because it still feels like she's holding something back at first, as if she's wrestling with something herself. at least she's a damn good kisser (dex 22) and she slides one hand up his chest, coaxing him backwards onto the bed ]

[bigbad]

[Spike's no slouch himself (dex 17) as he lays back, tugging her down with him, hands sliding down her body to pull her closer.]

[postergirl]

[ her hesitation seems to thaw away, and she rolls him so that he's on top of her, her nails sliding against his scalp as she releases a pleased noise at his acquiescence.

fade to... rolls? ]

[bigbad]

[OH YEAH ROLL THOSE DICE BABY... ahem, I mean.
