Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.  

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there.  Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.  

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[after asking around about where shayla might be, he finds himself in front of rory. and trying not to have a panic attack. this is fine. this is real. it's really happening. it's gong to be okay.]

I — um — were you looking after Shayla?

[words. lucia can't be shayla. because she's orange.]

[Yes she is. And Rory straightens a bit at the question because this is a unfamiliar person that he doesn't know asking about a child in his care.]

I am. Who are you?

[Sorry, Finnick.]

I'm Finnick. Her father. [he doesn't blame rory for being suspicious of him but he feels so awkward and hopeless and really wishes that myri were here. sobs.] I don't know if you know, but, um ... Myri won't wake up right now. I wanted to make sure Shayla was okay.

[Oh.

Rory's demeanor changes in an instant because he has heard of Finnick, he just didn't know what he looked like. He nods a bit, before gesturing with one hand for Finnick to follow him.]

I got her down for bed. She's asleep, but you can see her.

Sure. [that's easier, he thinks. her being asleep. he can meet her without actually having to interact with her and be a functional human being because he is definitely not that right now.] ... Thanks.

Of course.

[And they'll make their way around to Vi's room, where the girls have been sharing a space to make it easier on their babysitter. Shayla is asleep in the crib, very much a toddler now, moreso than a baby.]

Would you like me to stay?

If you don't mind. [he still has no fuckin clue what to do with a toddler.] How is she — what can you tell me about her?

[he also doesn't cry when he sees her by some miracle. maybe because all he ever does is cry so he's in a dehydrated phase. probably that.]

[Possibly that. Since he's going to stay for a while, he'll move to sit with Lucia on the end of Vi's bed, feeling her start to drop off more to be back in a familiar place.]

She's a sweet kid. Lucia's more of an explorer, but they're near inseperable, really.

Makes sense. [he smiles, thinking of myri and vi and how of course their daughters would grow up the same, but —

he feels something in him rise. namely, panic. he loses his nerve.]

I just — I just wanted to check on her. If she's asleep, I'll come back later. Thanks for looking after her. Is it usually you, when Myri is away?

[He nods a bit.]

Lately, yeah. Only been with the Knighthood about eighteen months though.
