chapter five ♔ it'll be a day like this one when the sky falls down

the blues - switchfoot
WHO || The Knights
WHAT || Failboat returns from the disaster in LA as the Knighthood goes on lockdown
WHERE || The castle, London
WHEN || Directly after this, Fall 2017
HOW || Actionspam
Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.
The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.
Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.
[ This is the social log for post-LA lockdown. Failboat must complete the top log before being allowed to tag outside of it. ]

[He exhales a heavy breath before he says:]
I'll pack a bag and then come back so you guys can rest. You've had a hell of a day and you both need some sleep.
[Nothing like feeling you need to rest in shifts inside your own home.]

Yeah... [Running her fingers back through her hair.] Still a few people I'm supposed to talk to but... hopefully, they'll keep until tomorrow.
[She just didn't have it in her to have all of those conversations tonight. The day had been far too long and there was still so much about what happened that she hadn't processed.]
But, that works for me. [Looking back to Dean, as if wanting to know he was cool with it.]

Alright, hold tight. I'll grab some things and a book to flip through from the library and I'll be back.
[Might as well consult The Lore while he's keeping watch, right?]

[ Thanks Research Bitch. ]

[And then he's heading for the door to do...all those things.]

She knows as well as they do there probably won't be anything, but if there's even a chance... with a clearing of her throat, she looks to Sam, her smile weak but present.]
Thanks. [ It's not so difficult for it to be there (the smile) in the face of knowing they had another ally, even if Sam did have a long history of making terrible life choices. Maybe this was what was needed all along. Maybe the one good thing that could come from this wreckage, is that it would be the very thing that saved Sam.
She watches as Sam leaves, staying still and silent as she listens to his receding footsteps, before finally turning to look to Dean, studying him for a long moment before speaking. (Sense Motive 30 - sure now she breaks out a good check)]
You okay?
no subject
Is that stupid?

Exhaling a stream of warm air against Dean's scalp, she pulls back enough to look down at him, fingers idly combing through his hair as she shakes her head.]
Doesn't make you stupid. [She would have given anything to have seen a response like that from Helen.] I believe him too.
[It doesn't help that he'd still made some terrible choices along the way, choices that Rose doubted she could ever understand.]
Maybe this is what he needed, you know? [The push in the right direction.]

Together.
no subject
Yeah, we will.
no subject
You okay with the whole, us leaving idea? [They had a new normal these days though, and she hadn't exactly checked with him on this. In typical Rose fashion, she'd gotten fired up and forged ahead. This was his home as much as it was hers, however. Even if it didn't entirely feel like home anymore.]
Maybe it doesn't come to that, but... you were in that debriefing.

Doesn't have to be forever. [But even she's not entirely convinced of those words, not after today.]
Doesn't really matter where we are. You, me, Sam? [And it wasn't so hard to include him.] Doing what we do...
[It had never been about the place for Rose. The Castle was like everywhere else she'd lived. Temporary. As much as the room was hers, it was never really hers. Home was about people. It was about Dean.]
I happen to have an in with a King if you really like the Castle lifestyle. [Trying to inject a little lightness into what was an otherwise heavy subject.]

And we both know that's a gateway drug to drinking tea.
[Her smile fades, though, the reality of the day still trying to push it's way to the front of her mind and her voice is quiet when she asks her next question, as if that might soften her words.]
Is this what it felt like... with Sam?

no subject
I'm not talking about... this Sam.

well.
shit. ]
You mean ... before.

Searching for an answer with a gentle lift of her shoulders.]
Yeah. [...] I mean it's not the same I know, but...
[Elena and Des, they weren't her family but there was a time when she thought of both of them as about as close to family as she'd ever known. With Helen as well and Wynn gone...]

Letting the silence hang for a moment before she speaks again.]
I'm glad you're here.
