Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[ it takes... a long time. thea can usually bounce back pretty quickly, she's used to grief after all, but this was the last. the last of her family, the last straw. oliver and felicity both is just gutting, felicity had become family, and now they're both gone.

eventually, thea stops crying, but she doesn't move, head pressed against barry's chest, silent. what is she supposed to say? ]

[She doesn't have to say anything. In fact, she doesn't have to do anything, as far as Barry is concerned. But eventually he'll talk.]

I told the cops that we were overseas and wouldn't be able to make arrangements right away, and they gave me all their contact info to deal with that whenever you're ready. Want me to get you anything, or tell anyone? Whatever you need me to do, I'll take care of it.

[ thea shakes her head, that is... too much. she doesn't know what she needs, she doesn't know what she wants... maybe... ]

Can you get me french fries?

[He smiles.]

I can absolutely get you some french fries.

[He might have to cook them himself, but details.]

Just plain fries or do you want any extra toppings?

...cheese. [ she says it slowly, like she's thinking it through even as she says it. ] Cheese fries. I want cheese fries.

[ they might not even have the right meltable cheese here for them but she still wants them.

she looks up, eyes red, face splotchy, looking exhausted already. this is too much, but barry's small smile is grounding and her lips manage to twitch in some semblance of a returning smile. ] Don't take six hours this time.

[ she will never let him live down the sushi/mind master debacle. ]

[Nope, and he will not expect her too.]

I will not take six hours. I'll be right back.

[And in a flash, he's gone, heading down to the kitchen to ... teach himself how to make cheese fries. And see what ingredients they have in the kitchen. One way or another, he'll make this work.]

[ while he's going, thea pulls herself off the floor, turns the television off and returns to her room. where she promptly dissolves into tears again, curling up in bed and crying until her body cuts her off. she doesn't pass out, but she's close enough. foggy enough that she doesn't tell barry she moved.

whatever, he'll figure it out. it's fine, his girlfriend is just laying in the dark, leaking tears. ]

[Yep, that's not a problem. While he does need to wait for things he can't control the speed of, like his phone and the time it takes for the oil to heat, he does manage to find all the ingredients he needs to whip up a plate of homemade cheese fries.

Once they're finished, maybe forty five minutes after he left he returns, plate in hand. He quietly places the plate on the side of the bed closest to her, before sitting on the edge himself.]

I made them myself, so I can't promise they'll be up to standard, but I think they're pretty good.

It's french fries with cheese, as long as you didn't use American, we'll be fine. [ because that would be gross, but thea can tell it was shredded cheese and she rolls over completely so she can eat and lay down at the same time because that is how she is going to roll currently and for the foreseeable future. ]

I did not, so you're safe there.

[He reaches one hand up, brushing a finger against her temple gently as he lets her eat.]

Want me to stay?

[He knows how this kind of grief can go, and if she'd rather be alone, he'd understand.]

I want... [ thea's head tilts into his hand automatically, chewing thoughtfully. ]

I want you to stay but I want to sleep.

[ already, after three bites of french fries that she'd made him make for her. they'll go to waste but thea just wants to lay down silently in the dark with barry and not think about anything. ]

[Barry knows grief a little better than most, so he doesn't judge her for it. He just kicks off his shoes and goes to climb into bed next to her, opening his arms and giving her room to crawl in.]

Not a problem.

[Sometimes, Barry is capable of standing still when it counts.]

[ thea nods absently, curling up in barry's arms once the food is set aside. it doesn't take long for her to start crying again, but eventually she stops, if only because she falls asleep covered in tears with her face pressed to barry's shirt, soaking him with tears instead of soaking her pillow.

day one without her brother is finished, she survived. day two begins when she wakes up. for now, she's okay.
