chapter five ♔ it'll be a day like this one when the sky falls down

the blues - switchfoot
WHO || The Knights
WHAT || Failboat returns from the disaster in LA as the Knighthood goes on lockdown
WHERE || The castle, London
WHEN || Directly after this, Fall 2017
HOW || Actionspam

Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there.  Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[ This is the social log for post-LA lockdown.  Failboat must complete the top log before being allowed to tag outside of it. ]

Pleasure, Sir Daye. [ he shakes her hand stiffly ] Are you intending to head back into the field then, when troops are deployed?
errantdetective: (And that's why she flew away)

[personal profile] errantdetective 2017-10-18 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
That's the plan. LA's pretty close to home. This isn't one I can sit out.

How was the combat training situation in your branch?
errantdetective: (We know too well the song she sings)

[personal profile] errantdetective 2017-10-19 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Good enough. [Her eyes narrow. She doesn't love that he's asking. She doesn't trust him, or his motives. Besides, most of her fight training came from before she ever joined the Knights. Devin had taught her to fight. Sylvester had tried to get her used to the sword but she'd been pretty hopeless at it.] Not really my area of specialization, though.

It needn't be your specialization in order to be able to handle yourself in the field. Even our field medics require basic training.
errantdetective: (Or just because you must?)

[personal profile] errantdetective 2017-10-23 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oberon's balls, is he ever condescending.]

Really, somehow I never noticed. Here I thought when people tried to kill me I should just lie down and take it.

You'd be surprised the cowardly instincts that can lie in those who are otherwise brave.
errantdetective: (Or just foolish little tools?)

[personal profile] errantdetective 2017-10-26 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, how did we function before we had you here? Gosh, tell me more.

[She isn't really trying to hide how sarcastic she's being.]

Did Wynnefalshond tend to put up with this much lip in his subordinates?
errantdetective: (Don't get caught.)

[personal profile] errantdetective 2017-10-28 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Toby shrugs.] I wasn't around enough to be sure, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't generally this condescending to his subordinates. So I guess we've all got stuff to work on.

If you've taken any of my words that way, perhaps you're looking for insults where none lie. It seems there are several here who are looking to pick a fight, when we come to aid.
errantdetective: (And that's why she flew away)

[personal profile] errantdetective 2017-11-03 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the old "I'm sorry you took offense" approach.

[She tilts her head, raising an eyebrow.]

If you meant no insult when you were explaining how things work in the field, then you need to work on your interpersonal skills even more. Where I come from, what you were just doing is called "mansplaining." I understand you're here to train us. I'll even play along, even though your start time is not fair to those of us who are naturally nocturnal. But you're not dealing with a bunch of raw recruits here. I know how to do my job. We all do. Or we wouldn't still be here.

[Oh hey I have a character sheet now Diplomacy 21.]

If we didn't believe that you were capable, we wouldn't ally ourselves with you in the first place. I apologize that training might interfere with your sleep schedule. However, you should realize that it does quite the same for our troops. Hellsing operates on a nocturnal schedule ourselves - our men are accustomed to it, thanks to the nature of our work. We hunt at night, so to speak.

But we cannot fall victim to our habits. Our enemies do not keep a set schedule now. We must be prepared for them at any hour.

[She sighs.] You really can't help being condescending, can you?

I'm afraid I've quite a lot to do with my time, if you'll excuse me. [ yeahhh he's out ]

Of course you do. [But she doesn't move to stop him.]
