Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[ if she seems on edge, christos seems to be hanging by a thread judging by the stiffness of his demeanor and the way he surveys the hallways like a hawk. a suspicious, angry hawk. ] A commodity that seems to be growing sparser by the minute. [ s-so bitter ] In here. [ he nods to a side room, waits until she's in, locks the door and then places some kind of device against it, something with a green blinking light that adheres right to the outside and is relatively small ] That should do.

[Okay, she's been pretty paranoid but this is even more alarming. She waits until he's done, confirms that they're probably 'safe,' then speaks.]

It looks like you're about as okay with this as I am.

And unfortunately, outvoted for it. [ he looks her over, stiffly ] But the fact remains that this is a fight we can't ignore. And quite simply, I don't trust them to oversee it alone.

They're bringing complete strangers in here. And not just a couple of them.

[They're freaking military and it's freaking her out. They could have them all quarantined without lifting a finger with the firepower their bringing in here, or worse.]

I'm barely okay with another knight watching my back, let alone some random soldier from across town.

Not just any soldiers. [ his dark expression makes it pretty clear how he feels about hellsing ] Zealots.

[Endless sarcasm.]

Do they even have a plan? Or are they just going to throw things until something sticks? [A beat.] I talked to Finnick. He doesn't seem to think we have much of a chance.

The plan will hinge upon what the reconnaissance team can gather. Assuming that's anything - and assuming they make it back alive.

[She ponders that for a second before she says:]

Do you think they'll let me be a part of that team?

[ clearly, he was not expecting that, and his head jerks around to look at her abruptly. there's something in his eyes that looks very much like discomfort - or even fear - at the prospect, albeit momentarily ] They might consider it.

Do you understand what that might entail?

Probably not.

[That's part of why she's asking.]

But if we want a good plan, we need decent info. I'm not sure how much I trust most people around here to do it and know when to pull back.

[She shifts with her own discomfort.]

And I need to know if I'm just being crazy.

You aren't. [ the words come quickly, firmly. ]

I'd go myself, if we weren't concerned about losing more leadership. If I weren't concerned with leaving it entirely in their hands.

[ he hesitates again ] If you go, you need to remain unseen.

Yeah, I know. We need information, not someone acting like a hero.

[She's no hero. That's why it's better if she goes instead of most of these headstrong Knights they have that would volunteer ~~as tribute~~.]

And someone who recognizes that not everyone in their party may grasp that fact.

[Exactly. She'll leave people behind if she really has to. She won't like it, but dying isn't going to help anyone.

This is about survival.

She'd made Finnick promise to do something with this. She had to do the same, and she didn't have a kid that she could potentially leave behind.]

When they put the team together, tell them I want to go.

I will. Until then, I advise you to keep your head down.

You don't have to tell me twice.

[The less these new people even see her, the better.]

We're allowed to go outside, as long as we stay on the grounds, right?

Yes, although that vampire of Hellsing's is skulking around. Watch out for that one.

Unless he's a fan of climbing trees, I think I can avoid him.

I imagine he can probably float.

[Her nose scrunches up.]

That's super creepy. Why is he allowed in here with us again?

Because Hasmed and Solace seem to believe that we are incapable of handling this threat without assistance. And prescribe to the belief that the enemy of our enemy is our friend.

[She's still unhappy about all this, but her conversation with Finnick lingers in the back of her mind, and she begrudgingly says:]

What if we aren't? What if we can't do it, even with help? [She sighs, frustrated.] Finnick was there. I talked to him about it and he...he didn't seem to think our outlook was very good.

Then I imagine we decide whether a world run by Blade is one worth living in or not.

[She looks a little somber at that.]

I guess we'll just have to cross that bridge if we get to it.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that, but remain prepared for the worst.
