Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.  

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there.  Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.  

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

Nah, she's a good sleeper. And most people don't bother them when they're in a private rooms. And I don't leave her completely alone. I'm not far.

Seems complicated. When can she survive on her own?

[That almost makes him laugh, but he manages to keep it down.]

Not for a while yet. At least not legally speaking. Depending on where you live, parenthood tends to be an at least eighteen year commitment.

I was on my own for a while as a kid. I guess I missed out on a lot.

Nothing wrong with that. And parenthood isn't for everyone either.

[If she doesn't want to have kids, then she doesn't have to have kids.]

Oh. No, I was in a car accident when I was little and then I lived in the woods. So, I didn't have a childhood. I had wildlife.

... Oh.

[Not what he was expecting, but ... also not the weirdest thing he's ever heard either.]

So you haven't given any of this a whole lot of thought then.

No. Not really. I mean, I was also a coyote for a majority of that time... so, that's another thing to know.

Oh again.

[Again, surprised, but not completely weirded out by it.]

So the whole human thing is a bit weird for you?

[Which is asked more for clarification than anything else. He's been around a lot of aliens, he doesn't mind a little non-human weirdness.]

It was... [She pauses, thinking about it.] Maybe it still is. I don't know. I still make mistakes and the friends I had here, the ones that knew the same things I did -- he's not around and the other one is a wolf. Like, he got stuck.

Back home I had someone helping me. Telling me when I was saying the wrong things, but here he doesn't remember me. It makes things complicated.

There's nothing wrong with making mistakes, you know. If we didn't make mistakes, we wouldn't have anything to learn from. But if you'd like someone to help you with the human stuff, I wouldn't mind.

[He's used to people missing the human angle - he spends a lot of his time with aliens.]

You said you're missing the people who usually help you figure out the human angle. Sounds like you could use some support there.
