Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.  

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there.  Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.  

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[If only Bo knew about the prophecies surrounding her where she came from, she'd feel a hella kinship with this little girl.]

That's some intense history to live up to. I bet she can handle it, though.

[She would certainly have enough people around her to help her out.]

Me neither. Well, besides me, anyway. Being one had a bit of a learning curve for awhile there.

[Hayley smiles, amused at the slight coincidence here.]

So, this is going to sound like I'm part of a Single White Female vibe here, but I know what you mean about the learning curve. I actually was adopted - so when the whole werewolf thing kicked in -- [Her eyebrows raise in that 'you can guess what happened' sort of expression.] -- it did not go well.

They actually kicked me out. Destroying their living room and turning into a wild animal was the last straw. I had to figure it all out on my own.

[succubestie]

[This all seems...very familiar to her. Her memories of her past before the Veil is distant and vague at best, but all of that seems to strike some chord in her.

She's pretty sure her story isn't so different.]

I don't remember my Mom. Honestly, one of the only things I remember about home was being pissed that she'd bailed on me as a baby, that I didn't know what I was until I was already an adult. There was this whole world I didn't even know about and I just got shoved into it head first.

[She just assumes she was probably adopted too. Either that or she grew up in the foster system or something, she can't know for sure.]

It's hard. [Hayley nods, offering her a knowing glance.] Trying to figure out not just growing up and being a responsible adult, but having to sort through a side of supernatural bullshit too.

I mean, it seems like you managed, though. [She glances to the baby in her arms.] You'll do a good job.

[succubestie]

Eventually. It wasn't the shortest road, but I think I finally got there.

[The Knights had a lot to do with that, too.]

Thanks. [She looks down at Caeden briefly, then back up at Hayley.] Does it ever get less scary?

[consequence]

Being a mom? [Hayley laughs, shaking her head.] No, not really.

But -- you learn how to make it through those scary moments and you realize that it would be worse if they weren't scary.

[That makes so much sense it's not even funny. Bo grins, running a hand over the top of Caeden's head.]

He's worth being a little freaked out sometimes.

Definitely and at least now you have someone else who's been through it. I haven't been on active duty since before she was born, so I'm usually around if you need a break or complete sentences for a bit.

I am one hundred percent up for adult time in between the screaming and the eating.

And the diapers. I still remember the first few months that I'd change her even if I just thought she needed changing.

[succubestie]

Right!? I swear they put those color-changing stripes on there so that we go through more of them then we need to.

[consequence]

[Hayley laughs.] Man, the moment I figured out that was what they were? I think I was watching her even closer. The constant checking.

Thankfully, I eased up after the first few weeks otherwise I think Wynn would've started to raise eyebrows at my receipts.

[succubestie]

[Her smile saddens a bit, because Wynn is still MIA.]

Wynn still needs to meet him.

[She smiles at the little one, wiggling her fingers at him to try and get a smile from him.]

I'm sure he'll be able to do that soon enough.
