chapter five ♔ it'll be a day like this one when the sky falls down

the blues - switchfoot
WHO || The Knights
WHAT || Failboat returns from the disaster in LA as the Knighthood goes on lockdown
WHERE || The castle, London
WHEN || Directly after this, Fall 2017
HOW || Actionspam
Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.
The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.
Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.
[ This is the social log for post-LA lockdown. Failboat must complete the top log before being allowed to tag outside of it. ]

[But she can understand why she couldn't be, why she needed to do it alone. Sometimes, that was just something you had to do.
Bo knew a lot about going it alone.]
Then we don't give it to them. [Fuck them, honestly.] Besides, it sounds more like they screwed themselves and lost what actually matters.
[Family. Friendship. Humanity.]

This wasn't the reaction she was expecting, not even from people who cared about her. She figured that once the truth came out a lot of people would be hurt and angry... that Spike's response was just the tip of a particularly nasty iceberg so for Bo's immediate response to be sorry? Sorry, when she'd had no choice in being there or not? ]
I know you would have been. [ Though perhaps it's better said that she realizes it now, but that speaks more to how Rose sees herself than how she sees the people around her. ]
It just... wasn't safe. For us as well as you. [ Because she figures that would be easier for Bo knowing that in going it alone, they were protecting themselves as well. ]
Yeah... well. They made their choice. I intend to make sure they have to live with the consequences.
no subject
[And that Rose didn't just leave her wondering, though Bo was pretty sure she would have heard from her eventually. Rose just wasn't like that.]
...How much do you know about all this Hell stuff, then?
[Something is occurring to her, now that they're talking about it.]
no subject
About as much as anyone can know. [ Grimacing because honestly? For as much as she does know, there are about a thousand things she doesn't. ]
Most of what I do I've learned from Dean... or just, dealing with it.
no subject
[She doesn't want to let that hang there and make Rose sweat it out, so she just jumps into the story.
She goes over the day she had her baby's gender tested by Ana, and how something had blocked the scrying that she'd attempted, burning them both in the process. It's possible Rose has been told this already, but it's related to what came next.]
So this girl here, Toby, she said she could tell me about my parentage if she tasted my blood. Except when she did, something blocked her ability, and her body completely rejected it. She coughed it back up like it was choking her. [A beat.] She said it had never happened before.
And given...what I am? I don't know, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't kind of freak me out. Plus, I don't know if it's just me or me and my son.
no subject
She was wrong. [ Shifting uncomfortably. ] Something like that, has happened before.
[ And yet at least, it never once occurs to Rose that Bo could have been complicit with the block. ]
Back when Hasmed tried to scry for Elena... Somebody was able to block it. [ Even Rose reluctant to drop the L word on Bo, given the context of the situation. ] Not the same thing but... Hasmed isn't some trainee caster.
no subject
I mean...Toby said that had never happened with her ability before. I don't know if what she does is related to scrying or different than that but...
[She's clearly at a loss.]
...it could be anyone, right? Do you know if there's a way to figure out who might be behind this? Because if I can figure it out, they're getting a swift kick right where it hurts.
no subject
Anyone powerful enough... [ Which didn't bode well, and perhaps another time she would have suggested Bo go to Hasmed, but with everything going on? ] I can talk to Dean about it? He might have an idea...
[ But they were leaving and Rose couldn't say if there'd be much time to look into it in the coming months. ]
The fact that your parentage is being blocked from this side of the veil? [ Maybe it's not Hell, but whatever it is? Couldn't be good in Rose's books. ] Did Toby know what you are?
no subject
That's all I wanted. She wasn't going to be able to give me names or anything, but she should have been able to tell what my parents were based on my blood.
[And thus what she was.]
No dice, obviously. It never mattered much to me, but with my kid involved?
no subject
She shakes her head, not wanting to share any of her darker thoughts when she can't provide any actual answers. ]
It changes things I guess. [ Not really able to comprehend it. She knew what she was but not where she came from, not entirely and while that might have been something others grappled with? Rose, like Bo, never cared beyond the fact that her Dad didn't deserve to be given any consideration if he couldn't even be around. ]
If I were going to be around, I'd try to help but... I don't even know where we're going let alone whether I'll be able to stay in touch.
no subject
[She reaches out, placing a hand on the other woman's shoulder, a quiet gesture of solidarity and comfort.]
If someone wants to find me, they can come and find me and I'll deal with it the same way I deal with everything else. [She grins.] With a dagger and a steel-toed thigh-high boot.
Kick some ass out there for me, alright?
no subject
Rose meets her gaze, not quite able to summon a smile but there is a steadiness there as they look at each other. Some indication, small though it might be, that she was going to be alright. That she at least had some belief they both would be. ]
I will. [ A flutter of laughter in her reply in response to Bo's very... Rose-like answer, honestly. ]
And you... [ She hesitates, a part of her not wanting to bring ominous warnings to the table but if she didn't and it was somehow linked... ] Just, be careful, yeah? Not everyone here can be trusted. We might have gotten rid of Elena and Des but... it goes much deeper than that.
no subject
They'd be fine, and when they came out the other side, they would have drinks.]
Careful's not my strong suit, but I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled. Hell's bitches will be sorry if they think they can take advantage of me.
no subject
If anyone asks you about me... Don't trust them. [ That was simple enough. A warning without making her paranoid on the level of Rose and Dean. She figured if anyone did? They either didn't know Rose well enough to realize she'd be unhappy about it, or they were up to no good. ]
Anyway... I ah. [ She looks down at her closed hand, the small cloth wrapped object concealed in her fist feeling warm as she's held tight to it throughout this conversation. ] It's not much but, I got this. For Caeden.
[ Finally opening up her palm and offering it to Bo. ]
It's meant to be for protection. [ And within it, is a small Nazar, something that might be familiar to Bo as something like the one the Dhampir had worn before the war in Andres, something that Dean had worn every day since. ] I thought maybe... you could hang it on those things people put above a kids bed.
[ She doesn't know how to kids, ok. She means a mobile. ]
no subject
[That's an easy enough promise to make; Bo assumes everyone who should be asking about her will be leaving with her.
Her eyes fall to the object in Rose's hand and she reaches out to take it, handling it carefully.
She smiles softly, the gesture clearly affecting her and she obviously remembers seeing something like it previously.]
I'll tell him Auntie Rose is watching over him even from far away.
no subject
I'll be back to see him start doing cool stuff. Somebody has to teach him to blindly take his Mom's side in everything.
[ Her light tone still not able to fully suppress the swelling emotion. ]
I will be back. [ One way or another, even if she's not welcome at the Knights. Good luck to Hasmed ad Solace keeping Rose away without hurting themselves in the process. ]
no subject
Damn right you will.
[She reaches forward, placing a gentle hand against the back of her head and leaning in to kiss Rose on the forehead.]
I'm holding you to that.
no subject
Right back at you. [ Clearing the lump from her throat before sucking in a deep breath and trying to summon up a smile. More said in the look they exchange in that moment than could ever be spoken out loud. ]
Just promise me something, will you? [It's such a sober moment that she can feel the weight of it hanging between them, only the slight curve of her mouth shifting the mood before she speaks again. ] Make Solace and Hasmed's lives hell for me.
[ Wynn-Stans for life, bitches. ]
no subject
[Trying to make as much light of the situation as possible. She doesn't like the finality either, so she's going to avoid that feeling as much as she can.
The smile that spreads across her face, amused and mischievous, comes easily.]
They already don't know how to handle me. I can't see that changing now.
no subject
[ Don't worry Bo, she does know what that is but from the surprise and laughter than comes from her? It's safe to say that Rose has never pinkie sworn on anything in her life.
It doesn't stop her from holding her pinkie out to do just that. ]
Yeah well. My only regret in leaving here is that I didn't throw myself across the table to roundhouse kick them both in the head for betraying Wynn.
[ Because it's not their treatment of her or even the rest of the team that she finds unforgivable. It's what they were saying about Wynn that would sooner see her spit on their graves than piss on them if they were on fire. ]
no subject
They think they're doing their best for the Knighthood. Doesn't mean they're right, but it was going to be messy when he didn't come back with you. [She sighs.] If it were different, I wouldn't be staying either.
[Maybe after they save the world, she won't.]
no subject
[ Which is why she's so angry. If they'd had the balls to face Wynn and tell him how they felt, perhaps she could have respected that much at least but instead they didn't even wait for them to return before they were bringing in Hellsing and parading about the Castle like they were already in charge. ]
They've been against Wynn for years. Finnick said he heard the two of them trash-talking him back when he was a Squire and just before we left for L.A? Solace tried to tell me I couldn't go to Wynn if I had a problem. Like I couldn't trust him.
I don't think they're Evil. Just know-it-all dickbags - [ She spends too much time with Dean. ] - who are dumb enough to believe that anything Wynn can do, they can do better. If it wouldn't get everyone killed? I'd give anything to see them fall flat on their faces.
[ Tell us how you really feel, Rose. ]
no subject
[And while she will Wynn-stan til the end of time, even he had made a mistake here and there.]
We just have to figure out all this other crap first, and then we'll deal with them.
no subject
That'd be reason enough to come back here... to see them put in their place.
no subject
It's a date, then.
[She winks.]
