portland ♔it's only a little broken
WHO || Steve Rogers, James Barnes, lurking SHIELD... [closed]
WHAT || A newly-arrived Shadowkind is definitely resisting capture.
WHERE || Portland
WHEN || June, 2018
HOW || Action Spam
[ It wasn't often that a newly-arrived Shadowkind made national news. Then again, most newly-arrived Shadowkind didn't leave half a block of destruction in their wake before vanishing like they'd never been there.
...To be fair, the enforcement trying to round up this particular arrival had shot first when it was clear the man had no intention of cooperating and coming with them. The armed man reacted accordingly, but it seemed that no matter what they threw at him - which had been a squadron of enforcement officers, a veritable arsenal of containment weapons, and two armored vehicles - he wasn't going to change his mind. Staying only long enough to make sure nothing was in decent enough shape to continue pursuit, the man then vanished into the depths of the city and was still supposedly holed up somewhere within its borders.
Which is why SHIELD is here now, before anyone else could make a bigger mess of things. ]

Whoever this person was he was clearly enhanced and that seemed to be Steve’s specialty. He just didn’t know it was going to take him a few weeks to suss him out. This guy was good, whoever he was. All Steve has was a few grainy security photos. Long dark hair, stocky build, and a metal arm. That last one stuck out, of course it did that wasn’t something you saw everyday.
It had taken a few weeks but Steve finally managed to track him down in an old abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. He’s moving through the warehouse but since I just rolled a 4 for move silently his shield catches on a stack of crates and brings them crashing down. Good job, Steve. ]
Shit.

The warehouse remains absolutely still, however, not a sound other than the falling crates settling around Steve's position with a clatter. (Hide, 35)
Steve might get the slightest sensation of being watched now, though. As if there are eyes on him from somewhere in the warehouse, still unseen. A waiting stillness. ]

I know you’re in here. I don’t want to hurt you, or take you in. I just want to talk.
[ He’s using his most trusting voice (Diplomacy, 24), and he raises his hands putting the shield down to show he’s serious. Might not be the best idea but he also knows he can move quickly enough if the guy decides to attack...he hopes. ]

Either way, the silence drags out for a long moment before a figure steps into view at the other end of the long open room. There's a gun held at ready, although it's lowered at the moment as he stops. And stares.
His hair is long around his face, disheveled. There's several days' growth on his jaw and shadows under his eyes. But there's a familiar quirk to his lips as his eyes take in the sight of Steve standing there, lowering his shield. There's relief in his gaze as he takes in the sight of his friend, the first familiar face he's stumbled across since arriving in this world. ]
Took you long enough.

Buck?
[ His voice is hesitant as if he said it aloud then it would make the other man disappear. ]

Sorry about the mess I left behind. You okay?

How are you- I mean I know how you’re here but....is that a metal arm?
no subject
Apparently, this is a lot more complicated than he was expecting. ]
You don't... remember?
[ Well, if that isn't just the universe turning the fucking tables on them, he doesn't know what is. ]

It’s easy to put together that it’s the veil. Things can get lost. Natasha didn’t remember him when he came through- she didn’t remember any of them. Was this like that? ]
This place can make you forget. The last time I remember seeing you- [ He swallows cuz that’s not a fun memory. That’s not something he can easily talk about. ] you were falling from the train. I thought you were dead.
[ He is obviously very alive. ]

Shit, Steve. You don't remember any of it? The train was... [ He stops. Looks away. ] That was a long time ago.
[ He looks back and there's a strain in his eyes, his expression pinched and worried, and his grip is a little too tight on the stock of his gun. ]
...But you're not from the train. What's the last thing you remember from before this place?
[ Is it just him he's forgotten, or is it more than that?
...And what might be missing from his own memories that he hasn't figured out yet? He'd thought it was all there, but... ]

Bucky clearly has seen Steve since the train. What has this place made him forget? ]
Ultron? [ He’s not sure how much Bucky knows. ] The Avengers were fighting Ultron in Sokovia.
[ He looks at his friend. His eyes flash desperately. ]
Buck, what don’t I remember?
no subject
He looks back at his friend again, his expression confused. ]
You remember Sokovia. But you don't remember what went down in DC?
[ He's still trying to decide if that's a good thing, or very very bad. ]
no subject
The fall of Shield?
[ He remembers that. Taking down the hellicarriers, falling into the Potomac...fighting...someone? ]
I remember waking up in 2011, fighting with the Avengers in New York, fighting for Shield and then against Shield, fighting Hydra, fighting Ultron and then I ended up here.
[ If that puts his timeline in order for Bucky. ]

Swallowing hard, he instead lets his hands fall to his sides, inclining his head. ]
Well.... that's a bit of a gap, then. You... our paths crossed, in DC. It wasn't pretty, though.
