The Enclave houses a room for Knights briefings, although it requires nothing more than a simple slide of the keycard to enter - lacking some of the pageantry of the castle, certainly. Instead of the ancient table and giant, impressive crystal dragon statue, they are faced with a simple set of office furniture, that, while probably more comfortable, seems to drive home their displacement. Still, the room hosts some impressive technology, closer to what the Knights' downtown London briefing room had to offer, complete with a holoscreen.

A message is set out to several Knights that a briefing awaits... And Sir Solace stands ready to deliver the assignment.

[ There's something strange about the lack of pomp and circumstance that comes with being at S.H.I.E.L.D. but for as unfamiliar as it all feels? Sawyer is kind of relieved that they hadn't tried to recreate the atmosphere of London. The round table, the crystal dragon. They were so intrinsically linked with Wynn that it would have felt disrespectful to see something similar here. Like little boys playing dress ups when Dad was away.

That doesn't mean she looks entirely at ease as she enters the room shortly after Cora, Oscar difficult to spy as he pokes only his nose out from an opening in her bag. The small smile she offers the other girl cools off as her gaze swings to Solace, the slightest tightening of her features the only real indication of her feelings as she slips into a seat with her bag resting in her lap. ]

[Clark swipes his keycard and holds the door for Lois, heading in after her, the two of them finishing up their chat from the walk over.]

-guess I've just always preferred pancakes. Do I need a reason why? [Most important meal of the day and also apparently the debate of choice - pancake vs waffles.]

Says the guy who probably likes all his ice cream cones strictly vanilla. Last I checked, pancakes don't hold all the syrup and toppings in neat little built in containers. Instead, they just turn into a soggy mess. [ she slings herself down in a seat by sawyer, casting her a look ] Someone back me up here.

[And Cora will raise her hand because Lois has a point about those pockets.]

You can get way more on a waffle without damaging the structural integrity.

[She's just saying, sorry Clark.]

[ a bear cub darts past lois and clark and gambols across the floor to set her still admittedly large head on cora's lap.

gus walks in after, looking hungover probably and deciding that breakfast food is not a discussion he wants to be having. ]

Good afternoon, Sir Harrison. I believe you are the last expected, so I see no reason to tarry. [ he seems eager to curtail the argument as well ] As you are all no doubt aware, the American government has begun asking Shadowkind to admit themselves in what are effectively internment camps during what they call this 'Shadow border crisis'. Small amounts of Shadowkind civilians have been willingly submitting themselves, but those who have not been are being taken from their homes, their places of employment, even their schools, by immigration police and removed to undisclosed locations. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been working on tracking some of these bases and narrowing them down, even placing some under surveillance to try and get an eye on conditions after journalists have been disallowed entrance.

What we've heard is more than disheartening. These people are being treated as enemies of the country. Some are even being subjected to interrogations.

We will not stand for allowing this. It is one of our priorities to stem the tide of these enforced imprisonments and to that end, we have selected one base that we believe stands the best chance of being liberated.

S.H.I.E.L.D. believes that a small strike force stands the best chance of getting inside, but is willing to offer a force of back up agents to actually help tunnel these Shadowkind to safety once we've gotten them out. I don't know that we are ready yet to liberate the camp, but I believe this team could at least get inside and assess potential avenues of doing so. I will be leaving that decision in the hands of Sir Harrison, who will serve as team leader, and remain in communication with both myself and Director Coulson throughout the operation.

[ gus doesn't sit, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, nodding when solace names him as mission leader.

he's got a lot of no thank you feelings about this mission. ]

When you say "get inside", do you mean you want us to break in or to submit ourselves willingly and then break out?

[ Just as Solace looks like he's about to begin, Sawyer makes a W with her fingers, offering Clark an apologetic shrug before refocusing her attention on the briefing.

As Solace speaks, Sawyer doesn't show much of a reaction but you only had to have a 2 minute conversation with her to know she's aggressively against the internment camps. As if responding to her rising tension, Oscar crawls out through the opening in her bag and curls himself around her neck and shoulders while Sawyer holds her tongue for now. ]

[Let's try "Things to Make Cora Tense" for $2000, Alex.

There's so much of that situation that she doesn't like and she doesn't know if she'd be able to keep her cool for, but that may be a moot point. Depending on how Solace answers Gus's question, she might wind up in the open, exposed, all the things she was taught not to do.

Only Clark can likely hear how hard her heart is beating right now, but she also sits quietly, waiting to see what the answer will be, one hand resting against the scruff of Mellie's neck almost as though it's holding her steady.]

There are too many risks in asking anyone to go in as a prisoner. We're looking for a way to break inside the compound, seeking to evaluate the situation, and decide on what actions would need to be taken to safely liberate it. If you believe you are capable of doing so with the team you have and find an opportune moment, we suggest you seize it, but more likely, this will be a valuable reconnaissance mission.

[ gus nods, satisfied. he didn't think solace would be that rash, but he was compelled to ask. he's never shied from voicing his displeasure. recon is acceptable, even if he has no illusions it will be merely recon. ]

[ mellie licks cora's hand reassuringly. ]

While we're in there, I could take some pictures. Try to document what's going on, so we can get that information out to the public.

[ As much as she hates to say this... ]

That could hurt as much as it helps. Pictures are a good idea but releasing them? The truth has a way of getting twisted by those in power.

[ She doesn't think there's a good way to handle this, no matter how you look at it. ]

[Cora relaxes when Solace says that they're breaking in, not faking their way in, but she turns and squints at Sawyer at that.]

So does lying about whether or not they're doing this in good faith.

[People do better when they have information. Sometimes people also do worse, but they can't be given the choice to do better if they don't have the information in the first place.]

People need to see what's really happening there. If she knows someone who's trustworthy who can get the story out there then we should. That's the only way people can make that decision is if the truth is out there for them to see. I don't see how keeping it quiet actually helps anyone.

We'll be careful. [Clark looks to Sawyer, hoping to reassure her.] The President is going to call any negative press fake news, but... if we reach the right audience, we can try to force Congress to take action.

And maybe I can help with that. My mom keeps telling me she wishes she could help more. And having an ear on the Senate floor can be useful on the other side of this.

Mrs. K is definitely one of the good ones. If we can get her on our side, we'll have a big ally with some proof positive to back up her corner.

[ Sawyer still looks like she wants to argue but in the end just... shakes her head.

Trump was not the power she was worried about here. ]

[ he looks to solace. ] Where are we going and when?

The camp is in Utah: the specific location will be sent to your devices. I'd prefer you leave by tomorrow, although you may wish to gather supplies before doing so. We can requisition anything you think you may require.

[Cora nods and mostly waits to be dismissed. The sooner they can get moving and get this mission over with the better in her mind. But she doesn't say as much and she doesn't have more questions to ask.]
