There's more than one threat facing America right now - not only is it the home of Keijen Blade, who has ascended to godhood and begun summoning an army of dark creatures to his beck and call, apparently, but what's perhaps more insidious: the President has declared all Shadowkind to be suspect as a result, and vowed to try to run anyone from another dimension out of the borders. While figuring out how to do that, particularly when these new residents basically drop in from the sky sometimes, he's ordered all Shadowkind rounded up in internment camps until the 'crisis' passes. Some Shadowkind have gone willingly, out of an optimistic hope that it might actually make things go more easily for them, but others have been gathered up from their homes and businesses.

S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Knights have decided to investigate one of these camps for themselves, in hopes of finding a way to liberate it and make a statement to the government and people, ideally getting these people safely out of the country. Hasmed and Solace have sent in a small force of Knights to scope out the situation. They arrive in Wyoming via a stealth jet from S.H.I.E.L.D. that releases them up the road several miles out. A van waits for them there.

[ Sawyer is packing pretty light all things considered so at least her bag doesn't take up too much space, the brunette snagging an open seat and doing little to conceal the fact that she's not too sure about the fact that they're flying courtesy of S.H.I.E.L.D.

She is not the only one who would appear particularly uneasy, Oscar keeping himself hidden in her Messenger Bag. His stealth skills leave much to be desired, however, because every time he moves it's painfully obvious she's got something alive in there and Oscar can't be still to save himself. He just works on the theory that if he can't see you, you can't see him. He's a 3-year-old trapped in the body of a ferret. ]

[Cora isn't really much for people, though she has gotten better at them being around all the time due to her time in the castle. Her soft spot for animals, however, is a mile wide, so when she sees Oscar shifting around in Sawyer's bag, she can't help but ask:]

Is granola ferret-safe?

[You know, if he wants a treat.]

Uh... Safe? Theoretically. But he's more of a bacon lover.

[ She's offered him all sorts of treats in the past but about the only thing granola is safe from is Oscar.

And of course at the mention of bacon? Oscar pokes his head out of Sawyer's bag, madly snuffling her arm, across her chest, in desperate search of the plastic baggy of bacon that Sawyer casually slides to Cora (Sleight of Hand Nat 20...) as she stage whispers; ]

He'll be your best friend for life.

[And Cora will snatch up that opportunity so fast, shifting off her bag and dropping into the seat so hat she can take the bacon and tap some out into her hand for her new BFF. The look on her face is just ... incredibly delighted because animals are her favorite people in the world.]

I had to leave my dog back in England. He's a big guy and I wasn't sure how much space we would have.

[A Bernese mountain dog would be unhappy in both desert conditions and small spaces, so she made the right choice, but she still misses her big furry lug.]

Hopefully he won't be too mad at me when I get back.

[ The second the baggy is open, Oscar raises himself up onto his hind legs. His nose following the scent before he even lays eyes on the prize as Sawyer is immediately forgotten for the holder of the treats. ]

I can't imagine the base would have been much fun for him. [ A smile softening her features as she watches Oscar greedily snatch up the bacon, two tiny clawed hands gripping it as he takes so much in his mouth his tiny cheeks puff out. ]

If he's anything like Oscar? He'll be falling all over himself to welcome you, and then he'll make you pay for leaving him for a week solid. [ Lifting her gaze from Oscar to meet Cora's. ] But he'll get over it.

[She laughs.]

Yeah, I know. But forgiving myself is the tricky part.

[Even though she knows it was the right thing to do.]

Especially since I'm not one hundred percent sure that Shawn Spencer is the best hands I could have left him in.

[She's kidding. Mostly. Shawn has been good about sending her regular pictures.]

[ That much Sawyer clearly gets, understanding flashing in her eyes as they soften. Her gaze drifting to Oscar as he returns to Cora's hand in search of more bacon. ]

He'll be safe there. That's something to remember. I feel selfish bringing him with me.

[ He was her familiar, which many a magic practitioner would see as different but no matter the connection, when an animal was considered family? It didn't matter what said connection was. ]

And... sorry for lovers of bacon everywhere. [ Oscar was not opposed to stealing it off the plate of a stranger. He was far too aware of how cute he was. ]

Hey, bacon is good. I don't blame him for wanting the good stuff.

[From one carnivore to another, he has some good taste.]

"Politics + Wyoming + Shadowkind"

Wyoming has long been a problematic state for Shadowkind. While many Shadowkind flocked to the open, natural territories of the West, the locals often met them with great fear and suspicion.

Many lawmakers there ran on platforms designed to severely restrict the movements and rights of Shadowkind, which were popular initiatives among locals in the territories. There are even some cities where magic is entirely outlawed. Lately, there has been some controversy of the construction of Shadowkind internment camps inside the state, where Shadowkind are being asked to submit themselves until federal measures can be taken to "ensure the liberty of American citizens" and "keep the bad ones out". More problematic, ICE has begun actually rounding up Shadowkind families as part of the overarching immigration crackdown by President Trump, declaring those who have come through the Veil and not undergone extensive naturalization processes to be illegal aliens as well.

Basically trying to make a care package/emergency kit for some of the folks in the camp.

[For the first half of the plane ride, Clark has a black tactical backpack sitting next to him with the largest pocket open. Despite packing the thing himself, he's double checking the contents and making sure that everything is packed in the most efficient way possible. Eventually he'll be satisfied and set it aside.

After finding a spot to tuck away the backpack, Clark settles into his seat and starts the process of wrapping his hands in the enchanted cloth. It's a familiar motion by now, and one that he considers a necessity. This mission hits closer to home than he likes. It doesn't help that joining the Knights was a bit of an escape for him, a way to avoid the feelings of loss when Lana died. But what it did was pull him away from a place that likely needed his help even more.]

Someone's got his pensive face on. [ lois is just going to invite herself to flop into the seat next to him now that his backpack is moved ]

[He shakes himself out of his thoughts at her words, a slightly forced smile briefly appearing as he nods.]

Yeah, I guess so. How are you? Ready for your first official mission with the Knights?

It's... big. I mean, I can't believe they're sending five of us for something like this. But it's important.

From what I've seen, they're pretty good at matching up the right skillsets for what needs to be done. I just hope we can do something to help. No one deserves to be taken from their homes just for being different.

[ that earns a thoughtful look from her as she considers him carefully ] ... No, they don't.

[He actually notices the way she's looking at him (spot 16). But really doesn't get what it might mean (sense motive 4)]

What? Starting to have second thoughts about all this?

Just the opposite, really. [ she glances back a second over her shoulder, her voice low as she adds: ] Look, I don't want to push, and this is probably not the time either but at least we're out of spy radar range...

Are we ever going to talk about it?

[He's been so mission focused that the question completely throws him and he can't recall what she's talking about (wis crit fail. bless his heart.)]

I know I screwed up when we were sparring, but if you're worried about me hurting someone out in the field, you don't have to be. I'm going to be careful.

[ she just assumes that he's trying to brush her off again. it causes a pang but with a nat 20 will save, she again pushes it all down and pretends that yep, that's what she meant all along ] No, I know that. Forget I said anything.

[Cora doesn't do weapons either - she is her weapon, she's got claws. But the hand wraps make her curious so when Clark happens to be alone, she asks about them.]

What are those?

[He pauses and glances up when he hears her voice, a polite smile coming quick as he finishes wrapping his left hand.]

They're enchanted. [That doesn't really explain much, does it?] When I wear them, I can make sure to just knock people out instead of accidentally killing someone.

Oh.

[That's probably a good thing to have. She pauses before popping her claws out.]

I guess that's useful if you can't turn the deadly parts on and off.

[And with that, they go back in again.]

[Clark's eyes widen a bit, because that's a new one for him.]

Wow. Uh, yeah- I'm pretty strictly a punching kind of guy. [I guess in theory he could kick? But when you can just stand in one spot, take the hits, then wallop someone with your fist, that sort of becomes the default setting.]

Have you always been able to do that?

Since I was eight.

[Which might as well have been her entire life.]

I'm a werewolf. I was born one.

[Werewolves are a new one for Clark. It makes sense with the claws, but he's still processing a bit.]

I'm guessing the full moon thing isn't as important as the stories lead us to believe?

Oh, no, it is. I've just has a lot of time to learn how to control it.

[That and it's easier for born wolves on top of that.]

She also might ask for some healing potions, but if Sawyer gets to it first, and that's their budget for the mission then that's fine.
Also, since they're teaming up with spy people, she might ask for a concealable camera of some kind? Something that she can keep on her person just in case her phone gets confiscated.

The potions that Sawyer is given will be for the entire mission group.

Lis'sa will approve the technology request and give her a watch that can record audio and video.

[When Cora is not talking to other people she can likely be found seated in the plane somewhere with a window seat, if such things exist on the stealth plane, trying to breathe through the fact that they are in a tiny metal container thirty thousand feet in the air, heading off to another contained space, and it's bringing up swirls of feelings that she thought she put behind her.

The vault feels like so long ago now. She feels like she was a completely different person than she was then. At the same time, she's in the same place as well. She just lost one of her best friends at the hands of someone who means to do harm. She's going to be trapped somewhere she may not be able to easily escape.

But at least this time, she's prepared. She has food and water and hygiene products for the people trapped there, and she has means to free them, even if she can't do it right away. That's more than she could say for the Alpha pack. That's more than she could say for a lot of things.

She just hopes this mission goes quickly, rather than dragging out for longer than it should. If you want to come in and interrupt her complicated thought process, you are more than welcome to. She could probably use the distraction.]
