The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc!  This goes for... any time.

[Faye's poured herself into a little red number for the evening. She's one of those girls that moves in a way that means she wants your attention, a way that might not let on that she's only 17.

Which may be why she's been trying to see if she can get away with picking up an adult beverage. She's not so sure what the policy on underage drinking is around these parts.]

[ STERN DISAPPROVING BIZARRELY NON-HUMAN LOOKING GUY LOOMS OVER HER SUDDENLY ] The water is on the adjoining table.

[Faye doesn't look impressed at all.]

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind for someone who cares.

[Plus, she can't really remember enough of her life to know what they are, really. She's hot? Does that count?]

You'd do well to learn to respect your elders. [ And his hand reaches out towards her cup, where he twitches his fingers, and hisses something... and then all the liquid dissolves right out of it. ]

[Her brows arch at the hissing sound. Once she realizes it's her DRINK that has been steaming away, she looks up at him, completely infuriated.]

You know what, gramps? I'll respect whoever I damn well please. And guess what? You're not exactly topping my list.

Such a pity, that. [ His tone is flat, and he turns away from her, obviously done with her life now that he's made his little statement. ]

[servant]

[Well, that certainly is a red dress. Like it's been made from the cape of a knight of Camelot.]

[Except that a single cape would provide enough fabric for about three of the dresses that she's wearing.]

Oh, that's...you might wanna be careful with that.

[Merlin smiles a bit awkwardly as he points to the drink.]

Last time I had one of those, I ended up doing something, uhm, unfortunate.

[Faye leads her gaze from his finger to the drink, then back again.]

Is that so? [And she'll promptly grab a glass for herself.]

As a matter of fact, I'm in the mood for something wicked.

[She takes a drink while keeping her eye on him.]

Wicked?

[Merlin repeats the word with raised eyebrows. But she's here and they're all on the same team. He's sure she meant 'wicked' in a good way. Just one of those modern words that he's still learning.]

Well, it is something of a celebration. I'm Merlin, by the way. I don't think we've spoken before.

Did I stutter?

[She says, scoffing, but not entirely annoyed just yet.]

Merlin. [She says flatly.] You're kidding right? Did your parents hate you?

[servant]

Uhm, no, I don't believe you did.

[He looks confused, and her next questions cause it to linger.]

My mother loved me quite a bit. And I only met my father the once but...

[He trails off before shaking his head gently.]

No. He didn't hate me either. Why do you ask?

[Merlin, it is REALLY hard to mock you when you're so clueless.]

...Forget it. [She rolls her eyes, wondering if anyone around this place is even worth her time.]

This party is so lame.

[servant]

[Sometimes it's his only defense. He looks at her curiously though.]

Is it? What makes a good party where you're from?

Better music. More dancing. People who aren't getting ready to apply for their AARP cards.

Yeah, I'm really bad at dancing - what's an AARP card?

[Yeah, Andie has no idea she's only seventeen, but Andie also doesn't think about it much since Andie is only nineteen. So Andie slips over to say hello without commenting or noticing the drink.]

You're new, right? Hi, I'm Andie! I love your dress!

[Compliments are really the best way to start a conversation with Faye. She smiles almost genuinely.]

Cool, I figured. They're really good about having awesome clothes around here. It's nice to meet you!

So are they for real? About all the... upholding the good and all that? I mean, it just sounds so boring.

Though I guess the parties aren't terrible.

Well... the whole being a hero thing's pretty cool! I mean, like, I freed a bunch of slaves on my first mission. That sure wasn't boring.

[Faye just shrugs, not looking all that impressed.]
