[[ Towering above our heroes is the fifteen-story NOVA Record Headquarters, an L-shaped structure tipped with a winged roof, covered in reflective window linings that paint a portrait of the New Orleans skyline across its panels. Foot traffic streams in and out, a parade of Bluetooth wearing suits, women in nine-inch heels, and extravagantly dressed stars surrounded by guards and entourage members.

But the lavish exterior hides a dark secret or two, and the Knights have sworn to shine a light on all of them.

Why is a record company funding a church that supports Shadowkind slavery? What are the 'experiments' for which they're buying up Shadowkind DNA, and how does it relate to the mysterious behavioral-control chip found in the displacer beast released in the museum? And, of course, what do they want with Jade, and what do they know about the Lazarus Talisman's current location?

Answers are rarely straightforward on their journey, and it looks like another complication or two are on the way.... ]

You don't know what we might have in store for you. [ he jerks his head at spike, and actually sounds like a serious hardass for once (intimidate 20) ] She that bad that you'd take your chances with him?

Anything's better. I'll show you where to go, but I won't go in there. You'll have to finish the job Kathryne started.

[ thomas interrupts before spike can make any more threats of bodily harm ] No time to waste then. And now you're going to walk out of this building with a couple of us, and act as if nothing is wrong whatsoever. You'll smile at the secretary, wave goodbye, and proceed to the car.

Is that clear?

[snivelling]

But... but my leg, I can't walk.

[bancroft]

Don't make me regret this. [ and he places a hand on his knee... and a bright white light appears between his palm and the wound. when he lifts his hand, it's healed. ]

Mark, Desmond. Can you escort Mr. Gilbert here down to the vehicle? [ he glances at the others ] Buffy, Spike: I need you to come with me.

[nothingsodivine]

[Des hauls Gilbert up off the chair by the back of his collar, because he's a total gentleman.] So if he tries to run, go for the knee, right?

[bancroft]

[ thomas turns on his heel and heads towards the secret door outta here ] I'll leave that to your professional judgment.

[slay]

[ buffy gives a quick nod and follows after thomas quickly, giving spike a look of mingled surprise that he'd requested the both of them go along, but complying nonetheless. ]

To check what else has been creeping around the ducts?

[bancroft]

I believe I've tracked it. If someone else is spying on the Becksworths, I want to know about it. [ as they step out onto the stage area, kat's sitting there, legs hanging off the edge, staring off into space. he places one hand on her shoulder as they pass by and she jerks ] Go find Sir Gar and our Italian friend and make sure they make it out of here alright. [ without waiting for an answer, he hops off the stage and starts marching towards the steps that lead up to the booth. partway up it, there's access to a removable grate, which he yanks aside.

kat casts a look over her shoulder, as if wanting to ask more, but then jumps down to her feet and starts heading towards the door ]

[bigbad]

[Spike pauses, touching Kat's shoulder before he passes her.] I think your friend needs a new dentist. In case you're wondering. [He probably shouldn't sound so pleased about it, but he can't help it. He really enjoyed knocking that guy's face in.]

[slay]

... In there. You want us to fit in there. [ buffy looks at the vent, then at each of them (including herself) in turn. after a beat, she adds decisively on account of her dress; ] Well, I'm going in last.

[bancroft]

[ kat raises an eyebrow at spike, and though her eyes are dull, she still looks just a tiny bit satisfied right before she turns away from him again.

meanwhile, thomas rubs his hands together, smirking at buffy. ] I imagine Jack's squire can handle a little action, high heels or no. [ and with that, he climbs in first, to lead the way. most of which will be in a downward direction, so climb checks are needed! bancroft himself navigates effortlessly (climb 28) ]

[bigbad]

[Spike comes up behind them and smirks at Buffy.] All right, though I'd be more than happy to watch your back... [Before she can respond, he's in the tunnel without much difficulty, though not as elegantly as Thomas managed (climb 19). Buffy can watch his back instead.]

[slay]

It's not the heels I'm worried about. [ She grinds it out through gritted teeth and an annoyed look at spike's snideness, then climbs in after them with surprising grace for a girl in heels and a dress (climb 18). ]
