[
[ Several of the Knights discovered a secret room hidden in Nova Headquarters, full of strange occultish paraphernalia and guarded by monstrous warriors. Amid this was direct evidence of an interest in the Talisman. They also took captive Chad Becksworth's personal assistant, Olean Gilbert, who has information about the location of the mysterious woman that Burt told Finnick about - the one whose presence has had a major effect on Chad's personality. Olean doesn't even know the woman's name, calling her the "Mind Master", and identifying her as Chad's 'advisor'.

The Knights also discovered that the other Dragon's Claw, Sir Jack Chessing, had followed his own secret mission to Nova Headquarters, and he'll be meeting back at the hotel with them to explain what brought him there...

This log covers any non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in New Orleans, immediately following the last log and extending over the next two weeks.

Make your own threads, don't fuss about tag order, feel free to threadjack multiple people into one thread for hang-outs, ask me if you want a certain scene with an NPC, etc. forever whatever.]

[ there's no hugging or awkward handshaking or anything because jack is too british for life. ]

Ah yes, well, our paths do tend to lead us in unexpected directions, don't they? I'm here on mission business, but I didn't know the others would be. [ and that's all he'll be likely to say about that, b/c sekrits ] Finnick seems to be, er, settling in among the natives.

[She looks around appreciatively.] He certainly appears to be. [She looks back to Jack and then down to her drink.] Although I am a little concerned about what he may have gotten himself into.

As I am, considering how much deeper things may be running than he had first believed. However, he seems quite ready to accept the risks.

They all do.

It's quite admirable.

[Admirable... yes. Not foolish and/or naive. But she doesn't really know all the risks involved, as she assumes Jack does, so she'll trust his assessment for now.] A successful batch of squires then? Always good to hear. [Oh yeah, she forgot. She gives him an encouraging smile.] Your own among them.

[the flash of emotion in his eye at the mention of his squire is telling enough. he looks down a bit, forehead scrunched slightly. ]

Yes, she... [ he looks ready to say one thing, but evidently can't find a good way to phrase it. ] has been performing admirably, by all reports.

You don't sound so convinced. Or does it have to do with something other than her 'performance'?

[ he takes a deep breath, searching for a place to sit behind him and sinking to the couch ] Actually... it has to do with mine, it seems. She's entirely displeased with my being her mentor.

[She easily takes a seat at the other end of the sofa, legs crossed, facing him.] That seems a tad harsh. [She finds it hard to mask the annoyance in her voice.] And a bit personal. [But she can clearly see that he's been affected by his squire's disapproval, and puts her own irritation aside. She relaxes back into the couch a bit, opening herself up to be the expert listener she is.] But perhaps that's not exactly what she meant.

I think she was under the impression that we would have a chance to develop a much more personal relationship. As many squires do with their mentors. It must be difficult, having only just arrived to this world as she did, and looking for some kind of guidance.

[He was right, phrasing it as if she would understand. And she did, all too well.] I think she's still just afraid. She claims she's scared of who she is, or rather, was, but she's only afraid of having to decide who she'll become. The fact that you weren't there to hold her hand is only her making excuses for why she feels left behind. Has she had no guidance in your absence? [It's a rhetorical question, of course.]

Naturally. [ he won't shy away from admitting it, as it's bothered him as well ] Though I feel a certain amount of responsibility for helping her to overcome that fear.

You barely even know her. [And she doesn't mean it harshly, but rather she's just stating a fact.] I doubt she would have heeded your advice or direction regardless. There isn't really much you can do to help until she decides she wants to overcome that fear. It's not as if she's alone. She has many friends that are willing to help, and it's a little disrespectful to them that she still thinks she needs you.

Somehow I don't think a harsh hand is going to steer her towards realizing as much. Perhaps it's best for me to retain my distance.
