[[ Several of the Knights discovered a secret room hidden in Nova Headquarters, full of strange occultish paraphernalia and guarded by monstrous warriors. Amid this was direct evidence of an interest in the Talisman. They also took captive Chad Becksworth's personal assistant, Olean Gilbert, who has information about the location of the mysterious woman that Burt told Finnick about - the one whose presence has had a major effect on Chad's personality. Olean doesn't even know the woman's name, calling her the "Mind Master", and identifying her as Chad's 'advisor'.

The Knights also discovered that the other Dragon's Claw, Sir Jack Chessing, had followed his own secret mission to Nova Headquarters, and he'll be meeting back at the hotel with them to explain what brought him there...

This log covers any non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in New Orleans, immediately following the last log and extending over the next two weeks.

Careful what you wish for. Around me, there reeeeeaaally seems to be such a thing as too much adventure. [ she can't help b ut feel like he is jinxing them to run into demons so he can think she's crazy. WHATEVER, OVER IT. she's leading him out of the gym and the hotel now. ]

You say so, but I don't think you understand how much I like a challenge. [ he grins widely, totally unperturbed by what he seems to see as her self-deprecation or something, as they head out onto the crowded streets. he stays close to her, arm brushing hers, and following her lead. ]

I'm gonna resist the urge to turn this into the parkour version of the Tour de New Orleans just because you said that. It would be petty, and wrong, and I'm not entirely convinced you could keep up. [ she says it with amusement and particularly good nature, obviously teasing him despite the hint of truth in her statement. guns, sure, he was swell, but his sneaking and spryness had yet to be tested. ]

You wound me. [ he hits a fist against his heart ] Maybe you will have to pay better attention the next time I am saving your friends.

[ that gets a slow-building, but very full smile out of her, because she can't help but appreciate the pointed fact that he credited himself with saving her friends, but not her. look it's important that he realizes she can bust asses quite well too, thank you. and it helps that he's right, and she does exceedingly appreciate the save. ]

I don't think I'd be much good at helping save them if I spent the whole fight staring at you. [ though she'll happily stare at him right now with warmth in her eyes. ] Err - observing. Observing you. Not to be confused with gawking, or ogling, or. You know. Other things associate with stare.

[ he grins, seeming pleased on the whole with something in there that she rambled ] I will try to be more subtle next time, then, so I do not have to shoulder everything myself.

Something tells me that for an international superstar, you've got the subtle thing down pretty well. [ being SECRET SHADOWKIND REBEL LEADER and everything. ]

I have always much valued my privacy.

Did you ever think maybe fame wasn't the right career path to have privacy in?

Ouch. [ buffy makes a face at that, akin to a grimace, and just shakes her head. she manages a chuckle, at least, because she knows rafael at least likes isabella a lot more than the rest of them do. ]

It was a compliment. She is smart in these matters, but her arguments have never gotten through to me, because...

Well, because music is what I love, and what I have to offer this world besides my... darker talents. It keeps me sane, to give it to others. I could not let go of that, even if it sounds crazy.

[slay]

It doesn't. [ buffy's expression softens and she shakes her head. ] No. No, it actually makes a lot of sense.

[ particularly to buffy, who's in a constant state of flux between embracing her 'darker talents' and rebuking them in an attempt to find something less destructive that she can actually do properly. ]

[romanticidal]

[ he smiles a bit, squeezing her arm ] I have to be careful not to go overboard, though, si? That is why I have kept my adoring fans confined to Italia until now, but desperate times...

[slay]

For what it's worth, I'm sorry. I never meant to get you dragged into all of this. We were just looking for information.

[romanticidal]

You dragged nothing. [ he furrows his brow, all srs now ] You may have saved me, if nothing else. Not knowing what had become of Eterna... [ he shakes his head ] And now I have a chance to help her, in some small way. And perhaps to find a way to bring her back to herself.

[slay]

I kinda got the impression she didn't especially want to be back to herself. [ she says it cautiously, because she's really not sure how well rafael's doing on the jade front - it hadn't occurred to her to bring it up, mostly because it seemed like a sure way of dredging up pain. ]

[romanticidal]

Because something's been done to her. [ he seems to realize he might be sounding crazy, and looks up at her ] If you could remember all of your life, would you not want to know who you were?

[slay]

Depends on the life. [ she sighs. ] Rafael, everything I know about my life before the Veil just makes me more and more positive that I don't wanna know about it. I like the life that I have - that I've built, that I've chosen since I forgot. If someone took that choice away from me, I - [ she stops, pursing her lips and shaking her head. ]

[romanticidal]

Yet, you did not know her before. While you say you like this life, I know she is not happy with what her world is now, no matter what she protests. She is much like your friend Kat in that... she is a private person, defensive, but the more her walls are raised, the more unhappy she is within them.

[ he sighs ] You think me a villain for continuing to hope things will change.

[slay]

I don't think you a villain, I just think ... I think you might be seeing what you want to see. You want her to be unhappy with this life so it'll justify trying to give her memories back to her. And, that's not wrong - but it's not necessarily what's going on here, either.

[romanticidal]

... We shall see, I imagine. What matters is that she remains an object of attention to dangerous men, and whatever she remembers, that will not change that I will do what I can to keep her from harm and discover what they want.

[slay]

Well, I'm not sorry to have you on board, that's for sure. No matter what got you here. [ actually she's a little sorry jade got him here. but only in the most selfish of ways. ]

I would be nowhere else.
