[[ Several of the Knights discovered a secret room hidden in Nova Headquarters, full of strange occultish paraphernalia and guarded by monstrous warriors. Amid this was direct evidence of an interest in the Talisman. They also took captive Chad Becksworth's personal assistant, Olean Gilbert, who has information about the location of the mysterious woman that Burt told Finnick about - the one whose presence has had a major effect on Chad's personality. Olean doesn't even know the woman's name, calling her the "Mind Master", and identifying her as Chad's 'advisor'.

The Knights also discovered that the other Dragon's Claw, Sir Jack Chessing, had followed his own secret mission to Nova Headquarters, and he'll be meeting back at the hotel with them to explain what brought him there...

This log covers any non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in New Orleans, immediately following the last log and extending over the next two weeks.

As common as anything else we specialize in, you might say. The knighthood is divided into sections: and our mages are only one of those sections. Although there are other magic users than just wizards and sorcerers: the Dragon's Light has several clerics who get spells from their deities... and even members of other sects occasionally supplement their skill sets with some powers.

[She nods as they exit the stairwell onto Elena's floor.]

How big is the knighthood?

[It sounds bigger than she'd first imagined.]

[rationalizes]

Nearly a thousand members globally: some of them operate out of cells in other countries, and not everyone works full-time on missions. Some have their own lives and merely provide back-up when it's needed in their corner of the world.

But the main force of Knights that resides in London numbers about four hundred now.

[Her eyes widen.]

Oh wow. Though I guess that makes sense, if you guys cover the entire world.

[She stops in front of her door, leaning the load in her arm against the door so she can get her key and open the door with the other, and proceeds to let them both in.]

[ just as elena's going to push the door in, it swings open abruptly, so she needs to make a reflex save or either get hit or drop those books (reflex save DC = 14). standing behind it, on his way out, is the dignified sir jack chessing. ] Oh -- pardon me.

[and she rolled a 6, so he bumps squarely into her before she has time to react, the items tumbling out of her hands.

Sorry Gar, your books are having a bad day.]

[ gar at least manages to pull herself up short before running into both of them, although she goes suddenly flushed at the sight of him as the books crumple to the floor. ] Oh! J-Jack! [ that seems to only embarrass her further and her face turns a deep crimson as she mumbles: ] Er, Sir... Sir Chessing. [ to mask her discomfort she bends to try and scrabble to pick up the books before they get further ruined. ] We're dreadfully sorry--

[ he raises an eyebrow at the sudden chaos ] No trouble at all. [ and stoops to pick up a book right as gar reaches for it. she blanches withdrawing her hand awkwardly and he rises as she does, and sets it carefully on top of the stack, before looking between the ladies ] Is everything alright?

[Elena smiles, though admittedly a little flustered, after she manages to grab the books within reach and get them back into the crook of her arm as she rights herself. Her free hand tucks hair behind one ear.]

Everything's fine.

[Bluff: 13. She doesn't want to get Gar in trouble if she wasn't supposed to have these or something. They must be important for her to get so frantic about the whole thing.]

[ jack looks to her with a sympathetic eye that clearly states he knows she's covering ( sense motive nat 20 ), but doesn't argue the point. ] Doing some research?

Er, well yes, I was hoping to uncover more... information about the Talisman itself - its source, in particular, as there's so much we don't yet know, but um, [ she explains all this while staring at the top of the book pile, as if afraid to look up, but now she sneaks a peek and just goes redder, sounding suddenly meeker. ] I can't find anything. Anything at all.

[Okay, so he clearly saw right through her, but at least he didn't seem angry. She looks a little sheepish, though their conversation instantly makes her curious.]

The Talisman?

[It's out before she even realizes it. Whoops.]

Oh! Um. [ now she looks straight up miserable as she mumbles: ] It's er, mission... related information. Sensitive. I shouldn't-- I shouldn't have said anything.

[chessing]

This is the girl who arrived through the Veil into the NOVA building? [ he looks from elena to gar for confirmation and she manages a nod. he tips his hat politely. ] Jack Chessing. I've heard that you're considering returning with us to England, is that so?

[She frowns slightly, disappointed that she might not get more information than that. She might have to ask around.

She looks over at Jack and nods, smiling.]

I'm Elena Gilbert. It's nice to meet you. And yes, I'd like that a lot, if it's possible.

[She still feels a little odd about having kind of forced her way in, but everyone's been welcoming since she came back to the hotel.]

How much have the others told you, concerning what we're doing here? [ it sounds like an innocent question, at least, not an accusation towards gar or anything ]

Oh, um, not that much, really. I was told that NOVA is into some shady business, and a few things about the Knights themselves and what they do, but that's it.

[Everyone's been secretive, even if kind. And she isn't one of them yet, so she hasn't deliberately pried. Much.]

As a senior ranked knight, I'm authorized to reveal more...at my discretion. And from what I've been told of you, I'm comfortable believing that you aren't some sort of enemy plant, at least.

We came here in search of an artifact of some great power, which may be close to falling into the hands of some very dangerous men. Our hope is to prevent such a fate.

[She's silently pleased that people are saying enough good things about her for her to warrant being told this kind of information.

She nods, as that's definitely easy enough to follow. More importantly, though:]

This artifact...is the Talisman? What does it do?

[rationalizes]

[ gar opens her mouth to reply, then seems to catch herself and looks to jack as if for approval. he gives a tiny nod when he notices, and she says: ] To be entirely honest, the terrifying part is that we don't actually know. There are plenty of rumors and urban legends and theories: immortality, incredible power to the wielder, that sort of thing, but they're only that. Theories. But they're theories for which people are willing to kill, on the off chance there's anything to them at all.

[Her lips press into a line as she thinks that over, brows furrowed.]

So...the only thing you really know is that if it exists, it's powerful, important, and should probably stay out of the wrong hands?

[chessing]

You see now why we're at such a disadvantage.

We followed a trail of clues that led us here... and everything we've encountered seems to indicate we're on the right trail.
