[ Cora seemed on edge when the strange mist rolled up in front of the ship, which, perhaps, should have been a telling sign of something. But there was no way to avoid it, as it seemed to be upon them and around them on all sides before a change of course could do much of anything. It spilled over the deck, enveloping the ship and making it impossible to see more than a foot in front of oneself while in the open air...

and so Hook never got a chance to see what it was that the ship abruptly cracked against hard, grinding to a sudden, inexorable stop, as if scraping bottom.

It's when the fog clears that it becomes a bit more clear what happened. Somehow, the ship managed to run aground, with Cora nowhere to be seen and---

Wait, maybe aground is the wrong word. The view from the deck of the ship as the fog dissipates shows a steep mountain side, caked in snow, and below it, the layout of a city, the spires of a castle rising off a mountain across the valley.

Somehow, the boat is lodged on the mountainside, and there's not a body of water in sight.

Welcome to a new world, Hook. ]

How does a simple pirate come by the means to travel between worlds? [ they don't even offer their name back. rude. ]

Amazing what sorts of treasures you find, sailing the oceans of certain worlds.

there's no reply for a long, long moment. and then finally, in a very quiet voice, almost a whisper: ]

You made a mistake, coming to this world.

Well, I wasn't aiming for it.

Where were you trying to go?

[unhand]

Storybrooke. It's in the land of Maine.

[behindcloseddoors]

I mean, what did you intend to do there?

[unhand]

Oh, uh... [He frowned, thinking about it. His land wasn't very nice, he knew, with all the ogres and such, and Storybrooke had been the destination he had in mind, but why? He'd known Emma wanted to get back to her son, but that didn't matter much to him.]

You know, I'm not quite sure. Maybe boost the tourism industry.

Nothing held you to your old life?

[unhand]

Not really. Why?

You are blessed, then. To have things that tie you to another world to which you can't return... is the cruelty of all fates.

I can think of worse ones.

I remember more than the others they've captured and brought here. You're the first I've spoken to who doesn't seem panicked by memory loss.

[A beat. There's a reason int is his dump stat let him get there let him get there...]

What memory loss?

... Most people who come here can't remember anything besides their name or... or not much more.

Does that extend to you?

[behindcloseddoors]

... No. I-- I remember much more.

[unhand]

Who are you? [NOT GIVING UP ON THIS. It's more a matter of pride than actually caring who his cellmate is.]

[ a bit of hesitation ] My name is Anira. Of the Tel-quessir. Or the wood elves, as the humans call us.

[Are there elves in fairy tale land? If so, Hook's forgotten about them I guess.] Is that like fairies?

[ she sounds a little horrified lbr ] No. Fairies are more akin to dryads or nymphs. They are the feykind of the sky.
