The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[I mentioned his disguise check nat 20, and the fact that he'd have to get dressed in the dark with his knee acting up and his bucket of fucks being at a negative forty before he wouldn't look hot, right?

Right, well he's here. Dressed... pretty much exactly as he always dresses. Maybe he has a sparkly dragon tie clip or something to mark this as a special occasion. You don't get much classier than a silver fox with a cane eating the hors d'oeuvres and generally people-watching. And sometimes being polite enough to get over himself enough to pretend he gives a fuck about most of these people.

Of course, there are people from his neck of the woods now, so he cares significantly more than he normally does, which might be why this is the first time anyone's seen him at one of these shindigs since his own ages ago.]

At some point in the evening, Faye slips over to the refreshment table and looks over the selection. Her nose crinkles as she decides that she'll be sticking to her spiked drink and leaving it at that.

When she turns from the table, she spots the man with the cane. She's intrigued- mostly because of that fancy ass sense of style and the way he looks... distinguished. A man who holds himself well usually has good reason to do so, after all. Putting on her sweetest smile, she approaches.]

I don't think we've met. Faye Chamberlain.

[BRINGIN' SEXY BACK, that's what up.

From the minute she walks up, Gold recognizes something in this girl and he can't think of what it is. Perhaps it's just that he's seen that smile on Mayor Mills enough times to be both interested and on guard about it.

God forbid he actually be missing the damn mayor, though.]

Mr. Gold. [He gives her a polite nod, returning her smile with one of his own.] Never could quite get used to the 'Sir' part of knighting. And I'm not surprised- this might be the first ceremony I've bothered to attend since my own. I'm beginning to think they gave me a squire just to get me out of the library.

[Manipulative hotties with magic? She's like Regina without the annoying background of being a good person.]

Really? I've been to a few myself. You aren't missing much.

[She gives a little laugh.] I'm trying to get to know a few more of the castle's residents. Call it a... personal project.

Oh, definitely not. Same sacred words, same procession. I enjoy a good ceremony as much as the next person, but I've a number of things I'd rather be doing.

[Well, that's an admirable project. And one probably inviting frustration, because about half the locals are worth knowing. Not that anyone could ever tell when Gold's about to lose his patience with any of them. He's got zen down to an art. Mostly.] Hm. And some would call it networking, which tells me you're invested in more than just the social aspect.

[Infomodding is just a talent, okay. He can't turn it off. He's like Sherlock Fucking Holmes over here.]

Networking takes out the personal touch, as far as I'm concerned.

[She doesn't seem bothered at all that he's figured her out. In fact, she seems intrigued.]

I'm just curious about what sort of skills our fine Squires and Knights have to offer. [Another smile.] You, for instance. You look like a man well aware of his strengths. I'd love to hear all about them.

[He chuckles] And everyone's keen on talking about themselves without much prompting, are they? To be expected- most don't esteem the power of their own words.

[He leans on his cane.] My strengths, dear, lie in never giving anything out for free, information or otherwise.

I knew you were smart. I could tell from all the way over there.

Most people are itching to talk about themselves. It's almost everyone's favorite topic, after all.

Did you now? Sadly, compliments aren't currency either, but I admire your keen eye. [Now he's just fucking with her for the sake of it. She's smart. She knows precisely what this is.] Unlike most, I'm a bit more selective with whom I share information with, but I wouldn't be entirely honest if I said I hadn't taken advantage of it being a bad habit of others, myself.

Can't blame a girl for trying. [You can't play a player, but Faye will sure try, okay. She smiles sweetly.]

So what sect do you belong to? [It takes all the restraint in the world to not mention that he's too crippled to be a fighter. Be proud of her, world. She doesn't even say it.]

Of course not. [She's definitely the 1% of people he can smugly tolerate around here, so four for you, Faye Coco.]

Dragon's Fire. [Wow rude, Faye. Maybe the limp is a battle injury.] As it turns out, pawnbrokers from the Shadow World are just naturally inclined towards magic. [Shrug.] Or perhaps it's just me.

[For as interested as she was before, she is infinitely more interested now.]

Pawnbrokers and high school girls have that in common. [She says, both eyebrows creeping upward.]

[And you are definitely securing your spot in that 1%.]

Is that a fact. [Raisin' an eyebrow right back.] Dare I ask which lucky Knight you were squired to? [Hopefully not someone who wouldn't mind him expanding the girl's horizons a bit. Most of his better spells weren't learned under Hasmed's tutelage at all. And, really, he almost wishes someone had introduced him to them. Would have saved him a lot of grief on certain missions. Plus it's only civic duty to help a young squire... And not just because she seems the only person in the entire castle who might actually get his darker inclinations he can't quite explain or ignore. It's just polite.]

You could dare, but maybe I've learned the power of my own words. [Someone was listening to you.] What good would telling you do me, after all?

[It's a bit of a game for her now, which can be discerned by her little smile, but she is taking his advice to heart.]

Fast learner. [He likes that. He likes that a lot. And he smirks right back.] And to answer your question, it might avoid any unpleasantness if I can convince him or her to agree to an arrangement. Protocols being what they are, I'd hate to get a slap on the wrist because I was giving someone else's squire private lessons, but speaking as someone who has recently been a knight... Some of the magic curriculum leaves much to be desired. I'd like to spare another soul the frustration.

[Especially one he knows won't frustrate him, in turn. Emma.]

Private lessons? I like the sound of that. [Her Knight's name is no consequence to her. Really, she just wanted to get that approving look out of him. It's strange how much she craves approval from those in powerful positions (or at least more power than her.) She steps closer, though, pretending as those this information might actually be worth keeping secret. To continue along with the game, she keeps her voice low and her words few.]

[Somehow... He's not surprised by that.] I'll have to have a little chat with her, then. Perhaps she can do something with my squire in return. [It's like wifeswap, only more magical.] And you won't be disappointed in the sort of knowledge I can impart, Miss Chamberlain. That I can assure you.

[Faye is intensely pleased that Mr. Gold decided to attend this particular squiring party, because it is bringing her an abundance of good fortune.]
