The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

Charming. [Is he repeating his name or does he really think that's charming. No one knows.] Well, I'd say the same, but we already have met. As you're probably getting that a lot right now, I'll spare you the tearful pleading that you remember. We all know what the veil does to memories. [He nods politely in a sort of mock-bow, the irony of which he's aware of on some instinctual level.] Mr. Gold. I ran Storybrooke's pawn shop, practically another life ago.

[uncease]

[At least this man seems aware that the things he's mentioning hold little to no significance to David, but he still tries to remember, even if it will do no good.]

Nice to meet you. [He pauses.] Again... apparently.

[undealt]

[Once David Nolan. Always David Nolan. Bless you, son.] And what did Wynn have to do to strongarm you into this operation, I wonder.

[uncease]

What makes you think he had to force me?

[undealt]

Oh, just years of carefully cultivated cynicism. [Also they really had to strongarm him until it occurred to him that pawn shops don't grow on trees and neither do small towns. And getting back into real estate at this juncture was just a bad idea all around. And convincing someone to forge his legal credentials "because he left them in another universe" was a last ditch option.

So really, it was Knights or desperation. And desperation sucks.] And let's just say I've seen better sales pitches than some of theirs in my time.

[uncease]

I came by choice. [And he'll leave it at that. Perhaps it has to do with their varying levels of memory. David knew nothing of where he came from, and the life Fred offered felt much more right than anything else since he arrived through the Veil.]

Guess they improved the pitch.

[undealt]

Clearly. [He shrugs] Never let it be said they don't pay attention to their suggestion box.

[And by "suggestion box," he probably just means his "guys stop being peasants" attitude.] How are you enjoying it thus far?

[uncease]

It's... definitely different.

Can't complain about the accommodations, though.

[undealt]

[Gold glances around the ballroom, something wistful in his expression that would have indicated he knew much more than anyone else if he had his memories, but now all he knows is that something about this feels right.]

Indeed. I think every person's had a desire, even a vague one, to live in a castle at one point in their life or another. [He pauses, half-wondering something and not entirely sure he should voice it. He hates admitting to the occasional strange feelings he knows are associated to gaps in his memories that don't make any sense. Why would a castle ever be so familiar? But David Nolan's easier to commiserate with than most people. Also Emma's probably crazy.] And yet, I can't help but get an overwhelming sense of deja vu from all of this.

[uncease]

[He stops and turns more fully towards the man.]

You too? I thought I was imagining it. I mean... I may not remember anything about what happened before I came through the Veil, but I can't imagine that it came anywhere close to a castle

Still...

[He looks around, letting that trail off into nothing.]

[undealt]

You worked at a pet shelter and prior to that, you were in a coma. Unless Mrs. Nolan- or Charming, whichever you prefer- has a well-kept secret, I can't imagine it either.

[But still is right. He trails off himself and then turns back to David, completely casual] But who am I to say what exactly we can or can't imagine? Seems stranger things have happened.

[uncease]

You remember a lot more than I do. Pretty much everything before I showed up here is a blank.

So... really, anything you could tell me- I'd be all ears.

[undealt]

[That's a dangerous game, Charming.] Are you sure? Strictly speaking, anything beyond the basics I could tell you wouldn't be relevant to the here and now. After all, how do you reconcile a life unlived? They're merely facts.

[He's thought about this a lot. It's a thing.] Stories, if you will.

[uncease]

It'd still be nice to know.

[Wouldn't you be curious if you suddenly found out about a whole person that you were? It's a natural thing.]

[undealt]

[Gold's reaction to all of that is pretty much nope.jpg, although it would be nice to know why he gets an irrational urge to KILL whenever he sees Hook.]

Let's see. Your name is David Nolan. You were married to Kathryn Nolan. You spent quite a long time in a coma. All of which I previously mentioned. [Moving on...] You had an affair a Ms. Mary Margaret Blanchard, which is why you and Mrs. Nolan are no longer married.

[Although that doesn't seem right somehow. It seems like it ought to be more complicated than that or that he's missing pieces. Suddenly, he remembers Emma's babbling and he has to shake it off. It's nothing. It's just that he can't be arsed to remember every trivial detail about David Nolan's personal life.] Should I go on?

[uncease]

[His mouth works, opening and closing as he struggles for a response.]

...An affair?

I... [Because that's the part of it that's hardest for him to believe. Everything he knows about himself (which isn't much, be he's going on his gut instinct here!) says that he wouldn't do something like that.

But this man claims to have known him before either of them set foot in this world, so how can he dispute it? He doesn't remember a thing before he arrived through the Veil.]

No, I think that's enough for now.

[undealt]

You asked. [He shrugs, because, hey, he's blameless here. Someone else might have skipped over the affair and just went straight into how he's playing house with a schoolteacher, but nah. Not his style.]

Well, if it helps, all parties are perfectly amicable at the moment, so no nasty surprises await you should either woman pop on through the Veil and join us.

[uncease]

That's good to hear. Though, there's just as much chance that they wouldn't remember me any more than I remember them.

[But this man would know them. And he could weave any story he wanted. David isn't so certain if he can trust someone who could make up any sort of past for himself and others he supposedly knew.]

[undealt]

What a tragedy that would be. [As much as that could be sarcastic, he does sound actually sincere. You can take away his memories, but his shipper heart beats on.] Though I wouldn't worry about it overmuch. People truly in love have a way of finding one another, regardless of the obstacles in their path.

[uncease]

Are you speaking from experience?

[He clearly has a lot of feelings on the subject, so it's a far question.]

[undealt]

Not that I recall. [He just has a lot of feelings okay. So many that he just has to get all smirky to maintain his street cred.] I'm just a romantic at heart.

[uncease]

Well... I guess if you see her around, send her my way.

[Which her? Oh, he's not even sure anymore.]

I'd be glad to. [With an entire musical number declaring his personal investment in making sure you two suck face. He's not sure why, but it seems terribly important.]
