[Myri's smile freezes, then drops into a small "O" of confusion and surprise.]

I'm sorry? I think I misheard you...

You mean to say... That is, you wish for me to do for her as Sir Kat did for me?

[She doesn't know if she's ready for such a thing, but Wynn apparently does and she trusts his judgement on such things. Still, she hesitates until she feels Amaranth bump against her leg. She looks down at her familiar and smiles, understanding his silent nudge.]

I would love nothing more.

[wynn]

I'm very pleased to hear it. [ there's that strange tiny small of his again. ] You're comfortable in your understanding of the responsibilities of the position?

[She sits back, a little horrified.]

Even if we destroy the labs, what's to stop them from making new ones?

So I have to just...not say anything stupid.

[The corner of her mouth twitches into an amused grin.]

Eventually shutting down the evil geniuses behind it all. We know where they live.

You'll find he's rather forgiving of such things.

And this where- is it on that island that's apparently super dangerous?

First impressions are still important.

[At least she knows a person or two might put in a good word for her. And hopefully Dumage just...doesn't care enough to mention the little blackmailing thing when she first arrived.

She totally had justification for it, and apologized later, but yeah...]

Naturally. Nothing that important is ever simple.

Wynn has a way of seeing to the heart of things. He expects some faltering, I would think. It's a reaction he's quite used to.

[A little bitterly. And beyond that, she's out of her depth.]

[That's both reassuring and a little intimidating. But Elena knows her motives aren't bad, so she has nothing to fear in that regard.]

I guess he wouldn't be in his position if he wasn't a good judge of character.

Well, he certainly wouldn't have held it for so long.

[She leans back in her seat.]

What's he like? I mean, based on what little I've heard so far, I have a picture in my head, but I have no idea if I'm even close.

[ he seems to ponder the question a moment ] Many people comment on how ... inhuman he can seem - it's partly the dragon blood, which flows rather strongly in his ancestry - but more than that, he sees maintaining a professional distance and dignity to be the best way to manage an organization of this scope, I believe.

He's a very honorable figure, but not without a merciful streak. However, he has no sympathy for the truly evil in this world. There's definitely something much more Shadow about his mentality, but it doesn't make it outdated in our modern world, either.

In a sense. That is... I have seen a few Knights with their Squires.

[A pause]

Truthfully? No. I'm not certain of what the job entails.

Your primary concerns are two-fold: to serve as a guide to the protocol of our organization, explaining to them how to receive training, equipment, briefing policies, our sections, or anything else they do not understand, as well as evaluating whether you believe they could have a place here, and which section you think their abilities would best benefit.

[The idea of dragons, actual dragons, it something that Elena finds hard to entirely wrap her head around. She mentally wonders if the inhuman thing is a physical or behavioral thing.]

So he actively tries not to...get too close to people?

[It...makes sense, if she's only thinking about it with her head.]

So he's had to adjust, just like the rest of us.

[She listens carefully, nodding along.]

I believe I could do that.

[She knows that wouldn't be the end of it between her and Elena. They were already fast friends.]

May I ask... How can you be certain that I'm ready for such a task?

Oh, yes, certainly. More than others, perhaps, given that when he arrived, Shadowkind were still viewed as myths or superstitions in many quarters of the world. I imagine some of the distancing might have come from necessity, in those days.

But it's also to allow him to maintain a clear head. He asks the same of Thomas and I, though to a much lesser degree.
