[ One moment, it's the heat of battle, the clang of metal against metal, and sometimes the crack of it as it severs bone and sinew. And then there's a thin line of fog, whirling around his ankles, barely noticeable amid so much distraction. But it creeps up, higher and higher, until he can't see his sword when he extends it in front of him, let alone the faces that surround him. The battlefield winks out of existence into a white wall, and suddenly the ground beneath his feet seems to as well, as it turns into liquid, and then there's a hard smack as he feels himself splash ass-backward into a pool of water that doesn't seem to have a bottom. It fills his lungs, eats away at the air that wasn't already knocked out of him.

Roll a Fortitude check to make sure he doesn't pass out (D20 + his fort save) If he makes a 13 or higher, he can maintain consciousness.

Probably a good idea to roll a Swim check too... (D20 + swim skill total) ]

[ SPLOOSH. had enough of falling in the water yet today, david? it'll take a swim check of 10+ to keep from drowning in the swirling pool below... and a spot check of 12+ will notice the barrel where the girl was stowed floating up from the floor below... the lid jiggling as she attempts to push it off against the pressure of the water outside ]

[He struggles a bit when he hits the pool, shoving his sword back into it's sheath again, before kicking over into a swim (swim check: 18). He does fairly well keeping his head above water, which makes it easier to spot the barrel floating away (spot check: nat. 20).

He kick onto his stomach, swimming over to the barrel and placing his hands on other side of the wood.]

You okay in there?

[ there's a gurgled reply and it's clear that the barrel hadn't been waterproof. a strength check of 11+ will get the lid off. ]

[He moves quickly, ripping off the lid (strength check: 21) and reaching down with one arm to try and pull her out.]

[ she seems to have just passed out as he gets the lid off, so she can't help him, but he's strong enough to pull her up to the surface alone ]

[he reaches in to pull her out, pushing the barrel off to the side as he tries to keep her head above water and kicks back to the shore.]

[ she doesn't look so good, her entire face pale as she coughs up water slightly. the water stops trickling down from above, at least. ]

[At least there's that.

He keeps swimming both, getting them back to dry land as soon as he possibly can. Once he does, he will check her breathing and attempt to give her CPR, but it's been a while (treat injury check: crit. fail). Not only is his head positioning all wrong, leaving him blowing air into her stomach, but as he starts the compressions he pushes down too hard and can hear the sound of what might be a rib cracking (listen check: 19).]

Shit.

[ it's at the point that the two knights come charging back down the steps, stopping when they see what's going on ]

Where did she come from?

I snuck her out from under the wizard dude's nose before you got here.

[as he said, the guy was oblivious. but that is not the point.]

I was trying to give her CPR and I think I might have cracked a rib.

[ sir ellison looks legit horrified, and looks down at the bottom of the lighthouse, which is now a giant pool obscuring their way to the door. she puts a hand to her head and looks like she's concentrating verrry hard ] We'll have to take her with us.

Take her with you where?

[because he said he would protect her, even if it seems like he's doing a pretty shitty job right now.]

To get healed. [ christos gives her a sharp look as if he's warning her not to say more but she returns it with a 'gurl please' glare and then adds: ] We're with an organization that helps people endangered by magic. We have clerics there - healers.

[David takes this information, digests it, and comes out with one thing.]

I'm coming with you.

[and if you tell him no, be prepared for him to dig in his heels.]

[ /prepares... ]

[he doesn't care about you, Christos. You're the unreasonable one, so he's talking more to Tia then you.]

I told her I'd have her back. Wherever you're taking her, I want to go too.

[ RUDE. but not entirely inaccurate. ]

[ she looks back to david ] Maybe it's not such a bad idea. He's risked his life coming in here and helping the girl. Wynn would probably want to meet him, if he's just arrived through the Veil.

[he doesn't sound like he's disbelieving, he's asking to be clear.]

[ below, the door is suddenly blown out from the exterior of the lighthouse... and the water starts draining out of the hole that's now there ]

[Hey. At least he tried. Screw you, Christos. But as the water starts to rush out, he glances towards the direction of the door, trying to figure out what happened. He still doesn't know as much about magic as he would like.]

Is that your other man?

[because yes, he remembers Christos talking to someone named Hasmed.]

Thankfully, yes. I asked him to help us get out of here. [ weird how she never picked up her phone... ] Let's go.

[David nods, before starting to reach for the girl to scoop her up into his arms (strength check: 18), careful to be mindful of her ribs.]

[ they head down the steps and out the hole where a door once was... a tall man in robes stands there, and a spot check of 13+ will notice his unusual features: elven ears, a flattened nasal ridge, and slitted reptilian eyes. he looks at david and the girl in his arms suspiciously as they advance ]
