It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Monday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Sir Luthir stands off to one side, all impassive elf, armored in his light, beautifully worked metal, and carrying a sword. Red-headed Sir Ironsides hefts an axe over his shoulder and offers a boisterous greeting to those approaching, and Fred helps round people up to the middle of the room.

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

Tour;

[ fred's a very normal looking guy, other than being pretty tall... and a 17+ spot check might notice that his dark eyes flash silver when the light hits them just right. ] Alright, so usual spiel. The armory's located through those back doors, and you can use your key card to get in there at anytime. Same for the firing range, through there. We've got almost anything you can imagine by way of arms or armor, and you can take what you want, and either claim it as your own or swap in and out for particular mission needs. Firearms are different: you've been issued an Excalibur, and it's yours to use up here on the range until one of us gives you the gold star to be field certified. Until then, don't go out packing on a mission.

This room is always open, and considering the Dragon's Hide is the biggest sect in the castle, there's almost always someone up here willing to spar or offer pointers. If you have any serious questions, you can go hunt down Dovan Ironsides, the section leader, in the Hide wing, which is down the back hall to the right when you get up the steps.

Accidents happen, even when we're all looking sharp, which I suggest you do since things can get pretty dicey up here when the pros are going at it, so the Med Center and Cleric wing are straight out across the hallway.

[ once they're done with the tour, the dwarf eagerly heads to the heavy doors at the back of the training room, slipping a keycard out of his armor somewhere and sliding it through the reader. the red light goes green and the doors depress, drawing back to reveal a room full of racks and racks of swords, maces, flails, morningstars, pikes, staffs, bows of all kinds, and more guns lining the walls in intimidating quantities. there's also plenty of armor, of both a modern and old-fashioned variety. dovan looks back at the squires excitedly. ] Who wants to find a good fit first, eh?

Melee;

[ once melee fighters have found a close quarters weapon of choice, fred directs them back out to the circles painted on the floor of the training room, and he draws his own sword as well, gesturing at the lines. ] Alright, time for some basic sparring. You can pair up, and pick a circle. Keep your fight confined in the bounds of the lines, and obviously play it safe and slow. The clerics are right across the hall, but they don't really like it when we send 'em a bunch of bleeding squires on day one. [ don't laugh... it's totally happened within the last year... ]

I'm here too, if anyone wants to pair up, and you can always spar with your mentor, if you brought them.

Firing Range (ranged weaponry);

Those who wish to practice ranged weaponry, guns included, come with me. [The elf glides to the doors of the firing range, unlocking those as well, and moving inside, after picking up a bow from by the wall.]

[ obediently, emma follows him back to the firing range. though, her eyes trace the rest of the training area on their way there, because it's ... pretty big and pretty incredible. none of it's really her thing, though. swords, maybe, but how practical is that here? guns had done her just fine before the enchanted forest. dragon aside. ]

This the part where we get cleared for field-use?

Correct. [ he nods to the targets at the end of the long alley. ] You've received formal training?

[Violet's hand shoots up. Because she is an adult and that is how adults roll, okay? But there is so much shiny and this is way better than the gizmo room, sorry bro. This is the violent Roman version of a candy store and Vi is the kid in it.]

Now there's the enthusiasm I like t'see! Step on up, lass. What's yer name?

[Andie's here too, with a rapier and flitting around a fighting dummy like a hummingbird on crack. When she sees the squires showing up, she pauses and turns to look at them, throwing a cheery wave at the newcomers. She's not really a specialist in fighting or anything, though she's slowly but surely getting better. Could be fun to see how some of the newbies do.]

[Hook follows as well, though it probably will annoy Emma. To be fair, it actually doesn't have anything to do with her, for once. He's very confident in his melee abilities stupidly considering how often he gets trounced but the guns are still new and exciting.]

I haven't. But they're not all that difficult to use. [To someone with a high dex, anyway. :-) ]

Skill alone doesn't equate to understanding of when to use them in the field.

And I had a gladius, but that ollied out on my trip through the veil of doom.

Well, well! An archer and a swordsman, got to keep my eye on you for the Hide, missy! [ he waddles over to the rack and pulls out a gladius (crits on 19&20, 1d8+str mod damage) ]

How's she suit your fancy, eh?

[Dimitri is trained only to go for the quick kill when he has a weapon in his hand, as the only weapon he's trained in is his silver stake. However:]

I would be open for some hand-to-hand, if anyone is willing.

[Because most people are totally willing to jump at the chance to fight with bare hands against a 6'7" wall of muscle, right?]

[Dimitri eyes the weapons rack with a careful gaze, as well as the selection of armor.

Also getting used to the fact that there's a dwarf in the room. There are a lot of individuals in the castle that he's found surprising, though he doesn't have any particular assumptions about any of it.

He's not even used to be around humans yet.]

I'm used to a particular kind of weapon. Would you recommend I just use mine, or become proficient in another as well?

[He doesn't know if their enemies require a different kind of metal or weakness to exploit.]

Ooh. Is this some elaborate and violent form of bribery because if so I wholeheartedly appreciate your style and my fancy is very suited.

I have. [ she doesn't elaborate what kind of training. it was pretty much just the class necessary to get a concealed carrying permit. ] I can show I'm a good shot, but I'm not sure how you want us to prove we know when to be.

[Lila is skittish, but in the most controlled way possible. Too many people with weapons, after a while she gives up and shoves her gloves in her pocket out of some absurd nervousness. In any case, she follows and approaches the man when he's free.

And then turns back halfway there. She is too tired to articulate actual well thought out words. Maybe just watching will count as training.]
