training ♔ monday morning

WHO || Fredrick Jr., Luthir, Dovan, entirely open
WHAT || Weapons training
WHERE || Knights HQ, Training Room / Armory / Firing Range / Gym, Dragon's Hide wing, 2nd floor
WHEN || Monday, March 11th from 10am onwards
HOW || Actionspam

It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Monday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Sir Luthir stands off to one side, all impassive elf, armored in his light, beautifully worked metal, and carrying a sword. Red-headed Sir Ironsides hefts an axe over his shoulder and offers a boisterous greeting to those approaching, and Fred helps round people up to the middle of the room.

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

Armory;

[ once they're done with the tour, the dwarf eagerly heads to the heavy doors at the back of the training room, slipping a keycard out of his armor somewhere and sliding it through the reader. the red light goes green and the doors depress, drawing back to reveal a room full of racks and racks of swords, maces, flails, morningstars, pikes, staffs, bows of all kinds, and more guns lining the walls in intimidating quantities. there's also plenty of armor, of both a modern and old-fashioned variety. dovan looks back at the squires excitedly. ] Who wants to find a good fit first, eh?

[Violet's hand shoots up. Because she is an adult and that is how adults roll, okay? But there is so much shiny and this is way better than the gizmo room, sorry bro. This is the violent Roman version of a candy store and Vi is the kid in it.]

I volunteer!

[Just like that.]

Now there's the enthusiasm I like t'see! Step on up, lass. What's yer name?

Vi. Hi. Ignore that rhyming part.

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-12 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Good to meet ye, Vi. First things first: have ye used a weapon before?
graveflowers: (Ω awesome.)

[personal profile] graveflowers 2013-03-12 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. My trusty bow -- her name is Lola --

[A pause: she was a show girl.]

And I had a gladius, but that ollied out on my trip through the veil of doom.

Well, well! An archer and a swordsman, got to keep my eye on you for the Hide, missy! [ he waddles over to the rack and pulls out a gladius (crits on 19&20, 1d8+str mod damage) ]

How's she suit your fancy, eh?
graveflowers: (Ω grin.)

[personal profile] graveflowers 2013-03-12 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh. Is this some elaborate and violent form of bribery because if so I wholeheartedly appreciate your style and my fancy is very suited.

If I were trying to butter ye up, I'd craft ye a better one myself. But it's a solid weapon, all th' same.

[Dimitri eyes the weapons rack with a careful gaze, as well as the selection of armor.

Also getting used to the fact that there's a dwarf in the room. There are a lot of individuals in the castle that he's found surprising, though he doesn't have any particular assumptions about any of it.

He's not even used to be around humans yet.]

I'm used to a particular kind of weapon. Would you recommend I just use mine, or become proficient in another as well?

[He doesn't know if their enemies require a different kind of metal or weakness to exploit.]

[ it's especially humorous given their respective heights (or lack thereof) ] Ye ask me I think every man should know his way around least a close quarters weapon and one for distances. What's yer usual, then?
likeagod: (pic#5536941)

[personal profile] likeagod 2013-03-14 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Close quarters.

[He pulls the silver stake from inside his jacket pocket, flips it around so that the man can take and look at it.]

I would be willing to learn how to use something at long-range as well. I can understand why it would be helpful at times.
ironsides: (| that's one big wyrm.)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-15 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
An interestin' choice ye've got there. [ he reaches out for it ] May I?
likeagod: (pic#5667295)

[personal profile] likeagod 2013-03-15 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[And he hands it over, letting the dwarf see how it handles.]
ironsides: (pic#2061517)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-17 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ he gives it a few expert swings, testing the balance and grip, before handing it back, looking satisfied ] Quite a weapon! Any idea who forged it?
likeagod: (pic#5667309)

[personal profile] likeagod 2013-03-18 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, no. They're crafted, enchanted, and then given to my kind after they finish their Guardian training, but I don't know much beyond that.

[Once it's returned to him, he re-conceals it in a pocket.]
ironsides: (| a fountain of dwarven ale!)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-19 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Pity that, pity that, I should've liked t'learn how t'make one myself!

After fighting a giant zombie monstrosity, I'm definitely in the market for a weapon that isn't a fire extinguisher.

[She looks at the rows of weapons.]
ironsides: (| and then i cut his fool head off)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-12 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Any idea, lass, of if yer looking for something to swing or to fire?
notaroundme: (hurt everyone else)

[personal profile] notaroundme 2013-03-13 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Swinging things is...probably not the best idea.

[Girl is a little lacking in the strength department.

She points at one of the crossbows.]

I know I've used something like that before, but I don't know how easy it would be to carry around.
ironsides: (pic#2061517)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-14 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he draws a light crossbow off the rack and hands it to her. it takes two hands to fire, crits on a 19&20 and does 1d8 damage on hitting. ] S'bit difficult to conceal, but there are ways around that, since it'd fit easy in a case of some kind. Bit more discreet.
notaroundme: (Default)

[personal profile] notaroundme 2013-03-15 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[She gingerly takes the crossbow, her fingers examining the working parts. Though she doesn't actually remember when she needed to use it, she can tell how it works, and it seems familiar enough.]

This will definitely work. [He was right, though, concealing it during certain kinds of situations would be hard.] I'll probably try and learn how to properly fire a gun, for times when I need something smaller.
ironsides: (pic#2061499)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-17 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Still don't like the things me-self, but I can see the benefits, I suppose. Plenty o' time for ye to practice up, at least.
notaroundme: (but if i get stronger)

[personal profile] notaroundme 2013-03-18 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm more comfortable with something like this usually, too.

[Because vampires. Guns didn't work on them, unless you had wooden bullets, and those weren't exactly a common thing.]

Would you recommend something small for close range too? Just in case?
ironsides: (Default)

[personal profile] ironsides 2013-03-19 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, depends on how small yer talkin'. Knives are good for th' element of surprise, but if ye don't know how to make 'em deadly, they're likely to get you killed at that range.

Anythin' bigger's a wee bit more difficult t'hide, but a short sword's easiest, if ye wear a long coat. [ he scans the racks and pulls out this one ] What about her? She's a beaut.
