Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Buffy's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Hide members - the largest sect in the castle, with the most representatives here, and Jack, Wynn, and Dovan wait up at the front of the room for Buffy to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides.

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Buffy Summers."

[Des is still here and still probably eating all the food like he hasn't eaten in ten years, but he will totally go and give Buffy a hug as soon as he sees her. She gets no say in that.]

[ this is horrible. it's even worse than the squiring ceremony because it's JUST HER, and whose idea was that really. but buffy gulps back the nervousness and steps forward to kneel before wynn. but not for blowjob reasons. 99% positive of that. ]

[ his hug pretty much knocks the wind out of her but she'll welcome it anyway. she buries her face against his shoulder and clings in a way that is way too feels-heavy for either of them most days. ]

Was wondering if you'd be here. Thought the castle scene wasn't for you? [ she draws back, giving him a teasing smile. it's trying to cover up all the feels ok it's like having her big brother at her graduation. ]

[ buffy's hovering awkwardly with a drink held in front of her in both hands, smiling at those who stick around to party. come congratulate her, assholes. ]

[ she starts out nice and somber and promptly decisive. ]

[ but then her serious facade breaks and she looks around (cha 6). ]

I - That's ... that's all I'm supposed to say, right? I feel like I was supposed to get a script for this.

[ Wynn smiles slightly, amused at her indecision, then nods once solemnly, before asking a directed question version of the same thing she heard at her squiring ceremony: ]

Do you swear to defend the Knighthood?

[slay]

Right.

[ her lips purse and she nods, then goes on to sober up some more. ]

I swear.

[wynn]

Do you swear to respect all weaknesses, and constitute yourself the Defender of them?

[slay]

I do.

[ wow it's like getting married to the knighthood. ]

[wynn]

[ divorce is not an option, they catholic ]

Do you swear to never recoil before thy enemy?

[slay]

Haven't yet. [ beat. yeah she really shouldn't get creative w her answers right now huh. she clears her throat. ] I, um. Yes.

[wynn]

[ she wouldn't be the first ] Do you swear to make war against injustice, without cessation and without mercy?

[slay]

Do you swear never to lie, and to remain faithful to your pledged word?
