It's totally not a date. You can tell, because a guy in a suit is actually being caught dead in a place called The Giraffe, because it seemed reasonably low-key enough for dinner and a nice chat about... trying to reverse the effects of the Veil. Yeah. But totally not a date.

To be honest, I've started filling in the gaps in my memories with whatever I decide feels right at the time. It's quite effective until someone comes along who remembers more than I do and contradicts it. Though that's only happened once and I think I came out of the situation better than one might expect.

Actually it never came up, but it has come to my attention that its weird. Luckily not many people here know who she is so I have that one grace.

Because had she been a familiar one, you might be expected to carry her name? That would be a terrible burden for anyone.

More like people would be all oh, that's Violet, watch out, her mom might turn you into a flower and put you into a wood chipper. It sort of impedes the friend making process when someone thinks their would be friend's occasionally crazy madre might smack a bitch.

She must love you a great deal to be so overprotective. Not that it excuses her actions, but a parent who loves too much is preferable to a parent who loves too little.

I think it's a little over-compensation. [A shrug, it is what it is and she's had her entire life to accept it.] She's overprotective because she's an absent parent, thinks it makes up for not being around much.

[Seriously, the amount of times Violet has had face to face chats with her mom numbers the grand total of four. In 25 years, or at least the thirteen she can remember.]

It seems the relationship between a parent and a child is usually a complicated one. One doesn't have to be a parent to see that.

No, I guess not. Its just that usually when I mention my mom is over-protective to the point of borderline psychosis the people that often side with her are parents themselves.

Oh, I wouldn't say I'm siding with her. Despite what her intentions might be, intent is fairly meaningless in the long run.

Maybe an A for effort. I mean, she's a good mom. Insomuch as I know she'd go to the mattresses for me but-- [Delicate little shrug.] --sticking around would have been just as nice.

[the crocodile has apparently fallen asleep during this conversation and it's taken gold this long to actually notice. he nudges her with his cane lightly.] All right, Milah. That'll be enough of that.

[eyeroll] I don't know how anyone goes about claiming she's a threat their personal safety. She spends most of her time asleep.

Maybe she's just bored.

I doubt she'd take more than an arm, though the good Captain [and he says that with so much disgust, it's almost palpable] is already short one limb.

[He bends down and it becomes evidently clear that Gold's a dog person just from how he pets the scaly beast. She digs it though.] Probably. Having a familiar is all well and good, but having one that doesn't cause a stir in public makes matters difficult. Still I've never known her to let me down on the missions she does accompany on.

She... ate that dude's arm? [That is odd but Violet only looks, well, kind of impressed. It's impressive.]

Can she not go everywhere with you? I can't totally hang out with her when you're, you know, otherwise occupied. If it ever comes up.

No, no. Hook's missing a hand, for starters, and it wasn't Milah that gave him the injury, but to hear the way he carries on, you'd think she did. [Hook just has a weird fixation on... his crocodile.] Not that she wouldn't if it was asked of her. I just don't typically ask. [He finishes scritching her and straightens again.]

Most missions require a bit more subtlety- she might be small for a crocodile, but she still tends to leave an impression, which isn't always what I'm aiming for. [Awww Violet. You're so sweet.] I think she'd like that.
