It's only a few hour plane ride from England to Italy, but the team has a little time to settle in and get to know each other and/or ask questions of Zee in preparation for meeting with her dad.

And of course, when they arrive, she takes the lead, bringing them through the streets of Florence, Italy at night and leading them around the door of a sold out theater advertisement for the Amazing Zatara.

[ the older magician shakes his head immediately, refuting some part of that ] You didn't know her, Zatanna. [ the reminder is gentle, at least, rather than a blunt counter ] She would have died rather than allow you to be placed at risk.

No, it's much more likely that she wished to contact me, but was unable to. I've take great precautions since my return to keep my whereabouts warded at most times...

[ he squares his shoulders and looks up, replacing the top hat on his head ] I'm the one who must find Sindella, and help her, if I can.

All due respect, [ emma prefaces in a tone that makes it clear she's not actually giving a lot of respect and there's nothing remotely respectful in what's about to follow, ] But whether she meant it for you or not, you're not the one who got the distress call broadcast into your head. I think if Zatanna wants to follow up on this, that's her call to make - not yours.

You lied to her. You and Sindella both - but it's out now, and there's not much point to trying to keep her out of it anymore. [ diplomacy 15 ]

[ well you almost succeeded emma so i guess you're WEARING HIM DOWN?? ] Zatanna won't get far without my help.

[ diplomacy 22 yep she's still going. ]

Then, help. Don't tell her what she can and can't do, she's in this whether either of you like it or not.

[Yeah, Hook's good at being charming, not so much at... actual diplomacy, so he'll just stand here looking not as threatening as he'd like (intimidate 9) while playing with his hook pointedly.]

[ he seems to realize that he's both outnumbered... and out-reasoned, and his shoulders slump as he sighs ]


... Then I suppose my only recourse is to travel with you. [ he hesitates a moment, then looks over them all ] Come with me. [ he heads in the direction of his dressing room door ]

[ zatanna stares there smiling after him when he turns around for a moment, before glancing at gold and emma and mouthing 'thank you'. ]

[ emma returns the smile with a thin one of her own, then looks to the others to confirm that they should follow as well or if he was just inviting zatanna. she makes the executive decision and does so. ]

[Wherever Emma is going, Charming is just going to follow. Clearly she and Gold are fine to talk this guy into just about anything. He's not really sure how he feels about that, but he's glad that they're making some progress.]

[Hook's curious enough to follow as well. He wants to see how it all plays out.]

[ those who are coming along are led a narrow door that opens into a dressing room that's far more extravagant inside than one would guess from the hall. zatara heads immediately for an old dusty trunk pushed up against the wall, handing his hat back to one of them for safe keeping as he moves to open the locks carefully. ]

When I left to save you from the curse, I made certain to take a certain heirloom with me, just in case you should get it into your head to use it to find your dear old dad. [ he lifts the lid, revealing a magician's trunk with neatly folded clothes, brightly colored scarves, and other tools of the trade. he lifts out some of the clothes and pulls out a small box. ] It should serve us purposes now, however, in locating Sindella.

Clothes? Clothes are supposed to help us find your wife? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm just no seeing how a trip down magician memory lane is getting us anywhere.

[undealt]

[Gold leans over to just casually whisper and point. (Wis check 19)] I believe he means the box.

[ allow emma to roll her eyes. ]

Yeah, 'cause that makes a lot more sense.

[ he turns towards them and depresses a switch on the side, causing the lid to spring open. zatanna leads forward to see what sits inside. ] He's right. [ within is seated this compass.

[Hook leans forward to get a better look.]

A compass. Well, I have always found those useful for navigational purposes. But how's it supposed to find a person?

How was one supposed to get Mary-Margaret and I to the right world? [ her tone is quiet, muted sass, and she looks to zatara. ] Magic?

[amazingzatara]

Magic. [ he nods solemnly. they would also notice that the compass' needle stubbornly points east. ]

[uncease]

[Charming looks from one person to the next, then down to the compass.]

So it's tuned to find your wife. [That's how he's understanding it, at least.] Anything else we should know about it?

[amazingzatara]

Not specifically to my wife, no. This compass will point to whatever its bearer desires most in the world.

[uncurse]

[ suddenly that compass looks a lot more attractive. if it's tuned into whatever the bearer desires most, then it could help them find mary-margaret. maybe even emma's son. she could reunite her family, too, with something like that. she stares at it for a long moment. if they help zatanna reunite hers, maybe they'll let the knights have it. ]

Give it to Zatanna.

[ sry she doesn't trust you to have the desire to find your wife most of all bro but she knows zatanna's mother is the most important thing to her. ]

[ he doesn't argue the point, and zatanna's face clouds with emotion when he holds it out to her. she takes it gently, holding it in her palm and staring down at it. the needle dips once, twice, and then spins around slowly, in a lazy arc, before growing faster and faster, her breath quickening along with it.

finally, it stops abruptly, quivering as it point to the southwest. when she speaks, her voice is breathy with excitement. ] ... We're going to need some transportation.
