The Knights split up, Tia taking Rose, Dimitri, and Amrita in the rented vehicle towards two of the more distant sites from the hotel, while Eric leads Aurelius and Lila through the back alleys of the city to somewhere nearby. It's late by now, and Chicago is alive with the sights and sounds of nighttime in the distance. A light rain falls, dripping off the overhangs of the roofs above and pooling against the sidewalks.

[ I don't know if the windows are open. Tia holds as still as possible, staring off in the direction of the door, and then says grimly in her mind: I'll make a distraction. You need to go for it. ]

Tia did see the fucking corpse, right? Amrita can't just take off and let her possibly suffer the same fate! ]

[ I can protect myself. Superhero, remember? ]

[ Amrita swallows hard, feeling the sting of tears in her eyes.

I'll get you help. ]

there's a sort of surge of reassurance in her mind, mixed with gratitude.

with that, she raises her hand, and there's a giant crash across the room. ]

Amrita has never done anything like this, at least not as far as she can remember, and time seems to slow down as she dashes toward the window. She seems to have time for an awful lot of thoughts during this brief moment, more than she would ever have thought could fit in such a small window of time.

What if I die now, what if this is it?

What if I can't get Tia help in time, is this the last time I'll ever get to see her?

What if the window won't break?

And so on in a seemingly endless stream of consciousness as she throws herself at the window (Jump 18)(strength 10).

[ the window shudders, and then cracks open against the pressure, just barely enough to allow amrita to get through. as she lands outside in the alleyway, her phone chooses that moment to start ringing. .__. ]
