equipment orientation ♔ monday afternoon
WHO || Lis'sa Trinall, Katniss, Myrilandel, Andrea, Arthur, Merlin, Riddick, and JamesLis'sa meets the squires inside the laboratory, behind its "Biohazard" labelled doors. She doesn't really offer much of a greeting, or even introduce herself - just waits inside the strange multi-storied library section until everyone is gathered, and then instructs them to follow her up the steps. A great deal of models are suspended from the ceiling that look like space age designs for jet planes, cars, boats, and any number of other things. There are other objects that are much more inexplicable: a giant silver ball, suspended by several rods, for example.
WHAT || Equipment Briefing
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Dragon's Hoard Laboratory

There's another set of doors at the end of the balcony, and she swipes an access card through a reader besides them. They depress with a space age his. revealing a clean white laboratory, with rows and rows of tables and lab equipment set up. Numerous knights buzz around in white lab coats, working under microscopes and on computers, conferring over a number of projects.
"This way," she instructs simply, not sparing the lab a second glance, heading for a door on the left hand side of the room. She presses a hand against the panel there, and the red light changes to green, unlocking the door for everyone's access.
Beyond is a very long room, with rows of labelled cases and cabinets with transparent glass revealing what's inside. Lis'sa steps crisply to the other side of the large stainless steel table.

Very spunky of you, kid. I'd like to see that in action sometime.

That would be a change. Not used to it being seen yet.
[But he thinks about what he's told - when it vanishes. He takes a breath and picks up the gun as gingerly as if he thinks it's on fire, something that might burn him.]
I guess I could go back to my macework.

Y'might wanna turn it so the barrel [and he points to indicate the little round opening where the bad stuff comes out]isn't pointed at your heart.
[He waits till Merlin turns the gun, then claps him heartily on the back.] Lesson number one.

Seems like an important lesson.
[Especially when he has just one heart and might be needing it.]
Thanks.

oddlytakes a liking to Merlin. It was obvious to him that the kid would end up shooting his eye out if he wasn't careful. Which made Riddick all the happier to try and help someone else learn the art of gun fighting.]Now, myself? I like a knife. Simple. Quiet. Effective. But for someone your size a gun would be a good thing to learn to use. Just my advice.

[Merlin looks up at Riddick a little uncertainly.]
There's nothing like this at all where I'm from. And making a mistake with one...sounds bad, to put it mildly.
[He glances down again though, reconsidering. On the other hand, if his magic did fail him, it might be his only fighting chance.]
On the other hand, I suppose I could give it a try.
[Merlin smiles, still nervous as hell.]

The good thing about guns is, if you have good aim then you're set. If you prefer to be up close and personal with who you're fighting then a gun really isn't for you. Course, there are plenty of other things to choose from in here, but learning to use a fire-arm would be a good idea either way.
And about making mistakes? That's why they call it practice. [He smirks and claps Merlin on the shoulder again.]

[Merlin pauses and looks up at the larger man, both brows lifting.]
Like you, I'd wager. Big strong types who do the knocking around. I normally play more of...a supporting role.
[He grins, but he also nods at Riddick's suggestion, taking the advice to heart.
I will practice every day.
[And if he's weirded out by his desire to help, it's met with gratitude from the sorcerer, his promise infused with it.]
Oh, I'm Merlin. I believe this is the first time we've actually spoken?
no subject
Richard B. Riddick. Yeah, I'm not usually much of a talker. Must've put something in the water.[He leaves out the "escaped convict, murderer," part of the sentence that's usually tacked onto the end of his name. No need to scare everyone off right away.
Lol and I love how Riddick's terrible low rolls mean that he doesn't recognize the Arthur/Merlin names, legends, etc at all.]
no subject
[Merlin shakes his hand before carefully placing his gun back into its case. And he rather likes talking to someone without having to address the 'you're the Merlin' question.]
Maybe you just save your talking for something important. Like...helping a fellow Knight not shoot themselves with modern weapons.
no subject
Like this one.]
Usually I'd be all for someone else shooting themselves if it got them outta my way. [There's a brief pause in which he realizes what he just said, knowing that he meant it but that things were different here and now for him. Maybe he should... add that.]
'Course it's different now, working with you people.
no subject
Call me selfish, but I'm rather glad that it is. Hopefully I won't be in your way though. We're...brothers-in-arms.
[He glances around at the others, and then asks one of those questions that might make someone want to shoot him.]
Are the girls still our brothers? Wouldn't they be more like sisters-in-arms?
no subject
First, careful 'bout calling any of them girls. They might hack off a precious part you'd sorely miss. 'Specially that one. [He says this as he nods towards Kat. And Buffy.]
I dunno, I think calling them that might be okay, I'd think they'd appreciate being called a Sister-In-Arms better than Brother. [He shrugs, thinking it sounds fine to him. He doesn't know anything about ladies and their "delicate natures." Or what sets them off. Good luck with this one Merlin. ]
no subject
[And he pales a little. Because he would sorely miss that part. He's grown rather...attached to it. Merlin nods as Riddick speaks, taking special note of the
girlswomen in question.]I'll let you know what I find out. There's no sense in both of us suffering their wrath. [Merlin grins over at him. With his luck, Kat will say one thing and Buffy another, and Merlin will be forever mixing them up.]
no subject
Gonna take one for the team, eh? Yeah, let me know how that goes for you. Maybe I'll watch, actually. That could prove entertaining.
Make sure you come to weapons training with that, I could give you some pointers so you don't shoot yourself in the eye. [He nods at the gun case, still chuckling.]
no subject
[Merlin grins back at him. He might just need it.]
no subject
See ya around, kid.
