Alaric's orientation invitation comes a couple weeks after the fact via text message. Zero tells him to come to his room in the Dragon's Fire wing and "knock loud". It seems a strange thing to say, given that the hallway is quiet enough to hear a pin drop when Alaric finds the door.

[Alaric's been spending the majority of his free time in the library in an effort to acclimate himself with his new surroundings, or tinkering with weapons in an effort to adapt to the differences that this world had to offer.

Needless to say, the fact that he had a few weeks "free" from this medieval mentor-ship program didn't bother him in the least.

It was just too bad it couldn't have lasted. When he shows up at the specified location outlined in the text message that he received, Ric's not sure what to expect. He makes sure to knock pretty loudly though.]

[ after a few moments of uncertainty, there's a grumpy: ] Yeah, come in! [ the door's unlocked and opening it reveals... the grandaddy of all hot messes.

there's barely even a bed to be seen in here: most of the room is taken up by screens and wires and computer paraphernalia. the lights are off, but the combined glow of all the displays provides plenty of illumination. most of them appear to be running lines of code all by themselves, but zero sits in a big black leather chair in front of the largest display, with a pair of headphones on, typing away a million miles a minute in front of a screen of nonsensical looking text. ]
