The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[She unceremoniously drops off her tiptoes when his fingers tighten and she looks down, exhaling sharply, before settling to look at her hand on his shoulder instead of his expression.]

I haven't decided yet. But it'll be good, trust me.

[ it's easy to feel his gaze studying her face, even when she's not looking at him. finally he says: ] I do.

[That makes her look up again, slight surprise apparent in her wide eyes.]

Really?

[ he nods ] Really.

Oh. [Her surprise turns to a smile she clamps down, biting her lip and ducking her head as warmth floods her cheeks. How terribly unfair that she doesn't think he was even trying to make her blush and succeeded so easily. Her hand leaves his shoulder to awkwardly tuck her hair behind her ear, fingers digging into her on shoulder.

No, not fair at all.]

[ GREAT SUCCESS. he certainly notices, and relishes the little victory but he doesn't say anything. too... polite... ]

Have you had occasion to try the bow yet?

[So sweet. Even is she wants to die of embarrassment and pride and a weird combination of other warm and fuzzy feelings. She has a lot of emotions.]

Not-- [Not anywhere she should, but she will totally replace the vase she broke in her room and pay for the back of the dresser she uses as a target at two in the morning.] Not really.

[She puts her hand back to his shoulder with a little hesitance, moving forward just slightly, though she is still refusing to look at him.]

[ stahp being so precious vi ] What about applying the silk to your bow case?

I might need another lesson. What sect would you choose, for me? [Oh hey, remember that passing question from earlier? She does. And apparently rightfreakingnow is when her mind chooses to fixate on it without so much as a segue or a by you leave.]

I suppose it would be selfish to say the Dragon's Hide. Your talents are much more versatile than a mere fighter.

I am pretty amazing, that's true. [Her agreement is absent, nodding slowly.]

Do you think you'll be a knight... like forever?

[ he seems to weigh that for a moment. ] So long as I live. And I think I would consider it an honor to die in service to the Knights one day, when my time has run its course.

Just a regular knight?

I'll admit, while I can see the appeal in hoping for a Section Head position some day, I'm not certain I crave the clerical responsibility inherent in the job.

Unless you were speaking of aspiring to be a Dragon's Claw?

Like many, the thought has crossed my mind in the past. But I'm not certain the stringency of the oath is ... for me. [ his eyes sweep across her face ] Though time, of course, will tell.

[She can't decide if she wants to be relieved or what. She is mostly just ...? So she changes the subject, again.]

Is there an elvish word for violet?

[ with a small smile ] Helinniel or Helillóte. Perhaps Hellóte for short. It means both flower and violet in color.

[She takes a breath.] For the record, I think you'd make a great Dragon's Claw. I mean, I'd follow you anywhere.

That's very kind of you to say. I do, hope, however, that it isn't a position Wynn will have to fill anytime soon, given what must occur to our current Claws to leave a position vacant.

Yeah, that would be sad. But... none of 'em, like, retire? The Pope did it.

The Dragon's Claw oath is for life. Given the types of missions they engage in regularly, most of them meet their end in the field within a matter of decades. I've seen it happen time and time again.

Wynn would never select someone in the first place who didn't have it in them to stick to the office until the very end. In a way, he looks for Knights with the same sense of dedication he has: ones who are as unlikely to retire from service as he is.

[She is quiet for a while, obviously thinking it over. It's not like she doesn't get the lifetime of service part, retirement wasn't a good look for her personally. But she supposes it doesn't matter as she will never be one. So she shrugs.] I guess. I have more questions, are you getting tired of them because I can stop.

Not at all. Although [ he nods up as the song stops ] it seems my dance is up.

What? Oh. [She should probably move then. She tries, stopping and stepping back some, the hand of his shoulder falls. She seems to be having trouble with the letting go of his hand part though.]
