[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of this month.  Because not everyone is into parties, ok.

Anytime I tried to talk to you, you'd run off. I figure this way, you couldn't stop the words since they were all put to paper. I mean 'em, lass. Every last one.

[No bluff check needed because even if he didn't come up with the words and put them in order, all of what he says is true.]

[Which only makes it worse. She's still mad. She knows she's still mad because why else would she be so frustrated with him being so sweet and poetic and sorry!]

A lot of things aren't fair, lass. I don't think its fair that I can't stop thinking about you, even though I want to. I drank myself stupid to try to get you out of my head, for both our sakes, but even through the haze... you're there.

I know I hurt you. I know I can't make you trust me. But whatever you want to think of me, I can't just let you walk away- or run, in your case.

I want another chance, beautiful. I want to make it right.

[She still blushes when he calls her beautiful. That's not fair either. She still does like him. She wants to be with him too, wants to kiss him and... and more than kiss too. It's hard not to just give in and throw herself into his arms.]

How do I know you won't just lie again?

You won't. Not for certain. I think you'll always doubt me now, and maybe you're better off for it. I've never claimed to be a good man, Andie. I've done terrible things- and those are only the ones that I can remember. Lying's only the beginning of it.

But you make me want to be a better man. Hell, you've played a part in making me one without even realizing it.

I won't promise you that I'll never lie to you again- because there might come a time where I have to. And I know that's hard to swallow, lass- I do. But I- [He sighs and just stops, shaking his head, because he doesn't know how to say what he's thinking or feeling. That's why he had Lila write the letter for him in the first place...]

Gee, making me feel all kinds of better about not dating you. [She crosses her arms. ] Look, secrets? I get. We're in a secret organization. I don't see why you can't just tell me you can't tell me.

I wish I could, lass. It would make it all simpler... [He steps closer, looking around before he continues.] Telling you that there's things I can't tell you is bad enough. I was hoping it'd be better than trying to lie to you again.

[She takes a few steps back, shaking her head.]

I don't...I can't... I need time!

[Which is saying something for the girl for whom seconds stretch into hours. Normally this long after something as painful as their break-up she'd be fine, completely over it, but it still stings. She doesn't know how to make it better.]

Thoster... I really do like you. A lot. I wish... [She doesn't even know. Would he even be himself if he wasn't a liar? Did she ever know him at all? She shakes her head, so fast it's just a brief blur.] It's just... complicated.

Time's not going to help that, lass. [He doesn't move, but god does he hate the way she puts distance between them.] Matters of the heart are always complicated, and all time is going to do is give you the chance to forget all about me, and I... [He glances down, laughing lightly but the sound is much more sad than anything else.]

I'm sorry for what I did. I'm not as good at talking or... writing [He gestures to the letter] as I want to be. But before you go, can you just listen? Just for a moment- so I can say it the way it needs to be said?

[And if she'll let him, if she'll stay to hear it, he sings for her. It's a song he's written, a story about a foolish man who lost the greatest treasure in the world. It's very thinly veiled and he's basically confessing his feelings without actually... saying it. But it sounds very pretty? (Perform 18).]

[She stays to hear it, and she's damn moved. Because that veiling is pretty obvious and she still doesn't know what to do and it hurts still that he lied to her and she doesn't know how to trust him again but he so clearly still has feelings if he wrote a letter and even a song.

She has tears in her eyes when he's done, that he may notice if he's quick enough. But she still runs away, vanishing as quickly as she always does.

But she keeps the letter.]

[He catches that shine in her eyes (spot 17) but before he can do anything about it, she's gone in a blur and has left him standing there with nothing but these damn feelings that he doesn't know what to do with. His hands ball into fists, clenching tightly to try to work out the pain that clutches at his chest. Finally, he simply sighs and hangs his head before heading back to the castle.]
