[She shrugs, but whether or not it's because she believes Faye (sense motive 20 total says she doesn't) or because she just doesn't give a fuck is up in the air.]

It's gonna be lame if miss goody two shoes gets knighted before you do...

[Well... now she finally has motivation to get promoted. Nice one, Lila.

She gets more quiet and thoughtful, or maybe she's just bored. WHO KNOWS.

You know, I think I figured it out anyway: do something they can't say no to. Something huge. [She shrugs as if all this is just idle chatter and she doesn't care. In a way she doesn't. She doesn't want to be a squire her whole life but Eric isn't going to promote her until he is good and ready so she's not apt to push.] Make yourself indispensable, you little firestarter, you.

Indispensable. [She says it almost thoughtfully.] Can't be that hard. I mean, look at some of the people they promoted before we even got here.

[Gross.]

Seriously. [A beat.] Okay, we're going to make a gross pact right now, blood oath or some other teenage bullshit.

We get squired before Rose and Miss Squeaky Clean valentines for the whole class so no one gets left out or... [She can't think of anything worse than that. Wel, she can, but not for the purposes of this oath.] We donate our entire wardrobe to charity or some shit.

Tell me this means we can sabotage the both of them along the way? And I'm in.

[Who let these two get this close? It was a terrible idea.]

[For what it is worth, Lila takes a second to realize that's probably a bad thing to endorse. And then she shrugs anyway. Which is a little worse than outright agreeing. LOOK BABY STEPS OKAY.]

Yeah, why not. It's not like I can't provoke Rose into a fight.

[Faye just smirks.]

Just try not to provoke her to fight me all the time. [And she ponders that a second longer.] But Diana maybe...

I think you might be the only person actually willing to hit her.

[She just shrugs]

Apparently I'm the only one who sees how much she deserves it.

[bittersweeter]

[Lila doesn't give enough fucks to care how much she may or may not deserve it.] Apparently.

Did you still want to go to that store? [Finish your chips and let's buy bath bombs, damnit.]

Yeah, let's go. [She wipes her hands on her skirt, like lol manners what is being a lady, and pulls her gloves back on. It's just habit now, frankly.]

[Faye glances down, watching as Lila pulls the gloves on.]

You know you don't have to do that right? [She doesn't make a big deal of it, just says it like an afterthought.] If you wanted to use it on me, you would have already.

[bittersweeter]

[Lila's laughter is amused, actual laughter, not the approximation of it.] I always want to use it.

So why don't you? [Not that she wants you to make her make out with someone again. But she is curious about how it works.]

[bittersweeter]

Because... [She thinks about it, how much she's willing to reveal and then decides the truth is an effective enough deterrent for her so maybe it'll effectively explain.] What I did to you and Rose, that's the weakest part of my power. I'm a dream worker so I can put people to sleep, affect the subconscious on a rudimentary level -- I can't work someone into doing complicated shit I don't understand, but kissing, walking into traffic or off buildings? That's easy.

[Her fingers flex in the gloves.] But I cause nightmares, that is my real power. And not the kind that you wake up all sweaty and scared, that's pathetic and not even close to real fear. [She moves forward toward Faye, directly in front of her until she's so close Lila has to look up, mismatched eyes brightening, the smile on her lips holding no mirth.] I give nightmares that drive people insane, suicidal, chittering shells of what they used to be, their minds completely shattered by their nightmares until there isn't a tangible thread of hope or sanity left to cling to. I can make people turn in on themselves, drooling and catatonic because their minds literally can't handle the complete onslaught of terror and hysteria that their fears bring them.

[With a hum of contentment, like she fully enjoys that aspect of her power, she steps back.] And in return for my gifts I get blowback, the price for using it. It isn't often worth it lately.

[Faye isn't afraid, not even slightly (will 21). In fact, as Lila talks about the lengths her gift can go to, Faye's lip curls up into a smile of sick fascination. To be able to know you could do anything you wanted to someone with a simple touch? That their lives would be in your hands?]

...Wow. [She breathes without realizing it. But once the word is... out there, she covers it with a quick question.] What sort of blowback? What happens?

[bittersweeter]

Nightmares. [At least Lila doesn't have to elaborate now. She just gave Faye the definition of nightmare.] It was worth it with you and Rose. I'm pretty sure she's too scared to punch me because she'll be in arm's reach. [Which is handy.]

That's... unfortunate. [Faye says, trying to imagine knowing that you were going to inflict something like that on yourself. Was the power worth it? Probably. It definitely was to Lila, and the two of them were similar in that sort of ambition.] So you knew all this after you came through the Veil? You could remember?

[bittersweeter]

[Lila quickly lights a cigarette as they walk, taking a bracing drag.] I remember a lot. All my memories have my boyfriend in common, I've known him a long time.

That a good thing? [Sometimes she can't decide how much she wishes she remembered. Since she remembers nothing, it sometimes feels like she's at a disadvantage, learning from the ground up.]

[bittersweeter]

Most of the time. [She doesn't remember the things that are important to her now though: her parents' names, any of her family besides her dad, her childhood. She is just stuck remembering Cassel, as if her life was so unimportant it just revolved around his.] I don't feel like I lost much.

And I don't remember anything. [She says it with a shrug.] You'd think for as long as the Veil has been dropping people here, they'd know more about the whole memory thing.
