Aye, comes in handy on the battlefield- but means I can't always join in to help. Bit of a hard place to put myself.

I wouldn't see it that way, if I were ye. Fought with many a bard on the field myself, and was always glad for their presence.

I captained a ship before I came here. Had my own family as part of my crew. It's hard to stand back when your little brother's in the thick of it.

[No but really- this pirate asshole is such a big softie.]

Two of them, actually. Ackerly and Kimmer. [Annnnd he glances down and away because wow he misses them. Let's not mention the baby sister who tagged along too.]

I take it they never made the journey over, that ye know of. I know all too well how much tha' smarts.

[bluffcheck]

Aye. Ship and I came through all on our own. Makes a man worry what happened to them when I sailed through.

[Only his biggest worry ever. But he can't very well do much about it, can he?]

Were ye far from land?

[bluffcheck]

I don't believe so. It's hard to remember all the details- or to know which ones I've invented to make myself feel better about the fate of them. [He sighs.] Not that the lot of them couldn't swim! Tossed 'em in myself to teach all three when they were barely able to walk. But it's hard not to think of them every now and again and wonder.

[He pauses and laughs]

They'd have a good laugh at me if they could see me now- running around as a Knight, saving the day and all that.

I've seen less likely candidates for the job! I think they'd be proud, don't you?

[bluffcheck]

Aye, they would. But they'd have a go at me first. Wouldn't expect any less of them for it. I taught 'em how.

Here's hoping someday ye get the chance still! Never know what the winds'll bring tomorrow.

[Thoster smiles and nods, but it's a little sad rather than hopeful.]
